Well, I know that most of you might be wondering what is going on with Lee. In the last three weeks there hadn't been any real change that either I or my mom noticed, except for maybe weight loss and muscle atrophy. Over the last week though, Lee has been experiencing episodes of vomiting. At first we thought it was probably associated with a coughing spasm, in which he lost it three times. Then over a period of about a week he seemed fine. Last week he started up again, and the first time it was bad with him vomiting 6-7 times in one day. He seemed to recover from that the next day, along with cutting down on his food and water intake. Then a few days ago, he as begun a once daily ritual of vomiting, times varying, but now they were not even associated with any coughing.0 I talked to the nurse, along with doing some A&P reading, and we all feel like this is probably due to the intercranial pressure, location of tumor growth or both. Mom is weathering this all very well. It is hard sometimes to get her out of the house since, even in Atlanta, it was hard to get her out of the house! lol Kent was kind enough to offer to take her out and drive her around but she declined.(now I know why she declined! lmaorotf...jk Kent) I am going to have my friend Connie take her to dinner one of these nights this week.
Just wanted to update you on everything. I am doing ok, although I have my moments. I guess part of me is glad to see that this thing is starting on the journey to the end and the other half is still horrified. I am so afraid that he will aspirate when I am not there or awake enough to help him. Aspiration is the most excruciating way to die, I have heard; basically suffocating to death, very slowly. We have to keep him sitting almost erect during the night so that this doesn't occur. During the day, we can let him back a little to relax, when I can be there to pull him up quickly into sitting position. My mom's back is bad and Lee is a big guy, so it can be rather difficult pulling him far enough forward for the bucket. Mom said that at least he waits for the feel of the bucket on his chest and under his chin before he lets anything out of his mouth.
I will let you know if anything else develops, as it develops. As usual, ASC has been great to me during these difficult times and these outtings sure do help being around all these friends.
