Janise

Did any of you see the "Friends of Friends" section of the S6 DVDs? They had an interview with Janise Wheeler who plays Janise. If I hadn't known it was her, I never would have guessed it. She doesn't sound ANYTHING like the character, completely different voice -- not just without the "accent" or whatever it is, but much lower in tone also. She doesn't even look much like her. Usually I skip the"Friends of Friends" section, because in the past (at least the first and/or second disks), it's just a listing of special guest stars, but this one actually had interviews with some of them, like Christina Pickles, Elliot Gould, and the woman who plays Carol.

I thought her name was Maggie Wheeler, not Janice Wheeler.

Megan Mulaly who plays "Karen" on Will & Grace is like that. Her normal voice isn't anything like that at all, and also if you noticed, her voice got higher in pitch by the end of season one.

First time I ever heard Maggie Wheeler's real voice was about two years ago when I saw for the first time a Season 1 episode of the X-Files that she appeared in. I was almost as surprised to hear her real voice as I was to learn she was an old girlfriend of David Duchovny. Lol. :-) Three of his ex's appeared with him in the X-Files, I hadn't realised she was one of them!

I have heard what you call her 'real voice' - it's very noticable when she was on Graham Norton's show, for instance, and she did a Desert Island Discs on the radio. I don't think the 'English accent' is her 'real' accent, but as she spent many of her childhood formative years (a few years up to when she was 11, I think) in England, as often happens to people like that, when she's in England, she picks up the 'twang' again because she hears it all the time. And she spends most of her time in England these days it seems. Get her back in America for a week and she'll be back sounding like Scully! :-)

More than a few years. She arrived when she was 2 years old. When her family returned to the USA, the other girls at school bullied Gillian for being different, so she quickly learned to speak like them. But to her it's just an act - which has since earned her millions of dollars.

Well, when she was on "Parkinson", she said how great it was to just relax, and speak in her natural voice once more.
