OT: Kazza or WinMX

Which is a better file-sharing program? Do they all share the same kind of programs, or is one more suitable to download friends, and the other one being better for animations?

I'd say Kazaa (but Kazaa lite mind you (www.kazaalite.com), not the official kazaa because it's full of spyware. Kazaa has more users, but give WinMX time...

I'm sure it's very powerful, but I just can't get it going! WinMX is ok, but there aren't many users. I'm happy with Kazaa for now, but I want to try and get some DVD rips soon.

Yeah I'll have to keep a look on some binary groups, I've never actually tried it before, I just assume you select all the messages and go to "combine and decode"?

Hmm, I've heard that before. That's pretty strange, since it's working very well for me. You just have to be patient; the donkey needs quite some time to get going. It's a good thing to have an up-to-date Serverlist, too - see http://www.szekszard.de/ocb/serverlist.html

Then, try downloading multiple files at once (say 20-30).

That's normal, really. The donkey connects you to the people that are sharing the files you want - then you get in the queues there. It just takes some time until it's your turn to get some... ;)

When I'm downloading several big files (let's say DVD-Rips) that are well spread in the donkey, it's no problem to get more than 4 GB (that's right, GigaByte) within a 24 hour period over a 768 kbps DSL line.

Unfortunately I live in a country where the phone system is run by a company with a huge monopoly, bad managment and no money. Sattelite costs �850 installation and �60 a month, for a single user, I don't have that sort of money. It's a disgrace...

Yeah BT are in Wales, unfortunately....where I live, there's no possibility of having cable (I'm out in the sticks!) ADSL is phenomenally expensive, I get really pissed off at times, because I spend so much time online and for what I do, I need a faster connetion :(
