Friends having troubles making friends outside of Friends

It seems like at least 1 or 2 episodes a year there's a situation where some outsider has a problem with one of our dear friends.

Almost like nobody likes our friends except our friends themselves. It's a great friendship and can't be beat. But boy do they have troubles making new friends. I mean, even Chandler and Monica appear to be the only ones who want to date each other since nobody else wants to date them.

I mention this because I find it very interesting that the producers want it this way. It's probably the truth in real life that there are only a few groups like these who hang out with each other and nobody else is because they are the only ones who understand each other.

Any of you have comments on this?

Well, it's not true that nobody likes the six of them. Chandler has some pretty okay relationships in the past (Janice, Kathy...) and Monica had wonderful relationships with Richard and later Pete. Ross is involved with three marriages and several other relationships and Phoebe had dated quite a few as well. The only one with problems with outside friends is Rachel. Ever since she ran from the altar, the major relationships she's in are with Paulo and Ross.

I think you're right that the producers want it this way coz there are only six main characters and it has been six for six years and six seasons. Any "external" relationship by our Friends would mean only a guest star that's all, and not a permanent character. The guest star will leave sooner or later.

Hey, come to think of it, in real life, only the female Friends are successful with their relationships.

No, actually, they're the only ones who have well-publicised happy relationships, there's a difference. Just because two of the girls are married and none of the guys are doesn't mean that the guys are any less successful with relationships.

Maybe you're right. Okay so who are the Friends dating now? I'm just curious? Here is a list of whom I think they're dating:

CC married to David Arquette JA dates Brad Pitt LK married to Michel Stern DS dates...ummm...I don't know...still Natalie Imbruglia? MP dates...again I don't know. I do know that he had some pretty big relationships in the past (with Yasmine Bleeth, Julia Roberts...) ML dates...I seriously don't know.

Care to fill in on who the guys are dating?

The only two we really hear about when it comes to relationships are Jennifer and Courtney and that's because they're in high profile relationships. I would suspect that the others are quite happy that their relationships aren't hounded by the press as much.

It's quite scary how closely my life's beginning to almost resemble Friends... I hang out in a pretty close-knit group of (5 other) friends rather like TV's 'Friends'.. we spend most of our time together (often drinking coffee at the Wine Cellar [sadly no couch there]), but we still have other friends outside the group that we do stuff with from time to time. I think Friends is unrealistic because they don't seem to have any other friends they hang out with, it's just the six, and it's *every* night. Much as I love my friends, I couldn't spend all day every day with them.. we'd end up ripping each others' heads off! (metaphorically speaking <g>) Well, actually I'd end up ripping everyone elses heads off, as I seem to have the shortest fuse :) But still, they don't seem to show as many arguments as there would be.
