Yup, definitely is a universal theme. In one of the numerous things I'm planning on writing when I get half a chance (in this case a novel, which I'd like to get published and turned into a movie - that'd be fun :)), one of the main storylines centres around exactly that. It's not a new theme, it's just how it's dealt with that sets it apart from the rest.
