It was inevitable but sad nonetheless.... I got a voice message from Jenn at work today that they have decided to take Lee off the ventilator and have moved him to a regular hospital room. Apparently his breathing now is rough and any hope is gone. She sounded drawn and drained. Resolute. This roller-coaster ride may be ending soon, and I apologize for putting it out here. I heard from Randy Green that his family was gathering on Sunday and thus must be there for this. I know there is no predicting an end here. Lee has a relatively young and strong body but his brain has been sapped of substance by the cancer. Now that he is in a regular, non-ICU room, I doubt he is long for this world. Let us all hope there truly is a better place after this life. Jenn and the family made the smartest decision they could in terminating support.
Pray to whatever God you believe in for this fine man, a gentle soul with a caustic sense of humor, a man you would love to spend time with, a man who found great love in his life such a short time ago.
Pray for Jenny, a woman so strong and resolute. She has made sure his care was the best every step of this long tortuous way. We should all have a lover who protects us like she protected Lee.
