Remember the 50 states game???

It was Season 7, Ep 8... TOW Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs. Chandler introduced a game where you had to list all 50 states in 6 minutes. Really funny stuff, but I remember thinking, "That's sooo easy." Then I tried it afterwards and came up 2 states short! Anybody else try this?

I learned a 50 states song in 5th grade and i've never forgotten it. So yeah... I'd have no problem listing them in about 2 minutes. That song really is a curse...

I think that's excellent Lauren. I moved to California right after college. People would ask me where I was from, and I would tell them Wisconsin.

You wouldn't believe how many times I got the exact same response--a blank, glazed look in their eyes and the, all too typical, "oh back east?"

No kidding, back east. What isn't east of California except Hawaii and Alaska or maaaaaybe Washington and Oregon? But really, there were/are SO many people that didn't really have a clue where Wisconsin is. I could have just as easily said, "I live in Kent, just off the M20, northeast of Ashford."

One woman even asked, "Wisconsin is a state, right?" Yikes!

Oh yeah, by the way, I did play the game, but I didn't know there was a six minute limit. I think it took me about that, but it might have been 10.

Is that song EVERYWHERE? Must be..I learned that in third grade...remember the bit at the end where you have to say your state is the best?

It must not be everywhere quite yet... I still get STRANGE looks from my friends who come from the other side of Michigan when I start singing it. But it's great to know that there are people out there singin' with me! :)

And it's not the ONLY fifty states song... my little sister learned a completely different song that names all the states. We sometimes argue (jokingly of course) about which song is better. :)

I think they say Ioway because that may be how people (most likely natives to the state) pronounced the state at one time. I've heard it pronounced like that in musicals.

My kids grew up in Orlando and they both know the song...

I went to elementary school in NYC and California and i have never heard the song. But i can write down all fifty states in probably 2 or 3 minutes (i visualize the map of the US).

A lot of kids today are learning a similar song of the 50 states from the cartoon, "Animaniacs." It rhymes the 50 states and their capitals and is very fast. There's a similar song that sings about all the countries.
