Favourite Slow Joey Moments

I'm TAing a course and I want to show a clip of Joey getting something mentally, but it takes a while for him to get it. I'm trying to differentiate between two types of intelligence: crystalliized (the stuff you know) and fluid (mental abilities like information processing, or memory capacity, etc). So I want an example of fluid intelligence (or more like the lack of it).

I remember one: when he read Julio's poem very slowly, long after Chandler and Pheobe read it.

And I remember him going, "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!" long after everybody else thought of it, but I don't even know what it's about and what episode it's in.

So any help, it'd be appreciated.

The rest of the Friends told him though, that he shouldn't miss Phoebe's surprise birthday party. Joey may be slow, but that's *not* the same as being stupid - he's more clever than most people take him for. I will spare you a long list.

BTW Lewis, I'm not accusing you of maligning Joey.

I didn't say he WAS stupid. Most of the time Joey "gets" what is happening--it just takes him longer to "get" it. All I was hoping for were some examples, and I have no idea why I can't think of any (I must be slow!). But thanks everybody, for all your suggestions. I like the duck one a lot too. I also remembered TOW The Inappropriate Sister where Joey says, "That's his SISTER?!?"

I agree! Joey is not stupid at all!!! He was the one who first found out about Chandler and Monica! And he did it by himself!!!

What about in TOW the Cuffs where the encyclopedia guy is trying to sell him the set, and Joey goes into a daze, remembering all the times the friends have been talking about stuff he didn't understand?

Or.... there's the scene in TOW TheWorst Best Man Ever where Chandler and Ross realise the duck has swallowed the ring, and Joey keeps thinking, looks at the duck and finally goes "ohhhhh!"

Or... TOW Ross' Wedding, part 1, Chandler asks Joey if he has his passport, Joey says "Yeah right, like I wanna be losing that". Chandler waits, and Joey finally realises, and Chandler says "There it is." (I like this one:)

In Las Vegas when they are at the table eating brekfast and ross says he and Rachel will get an anullment, and Joey says "Ross, I don't think surgery is the answer"

Or in 303 "TOW the Jam" where a desperate Monica decides to visit a sperm bank; and Ross, Rachel & Chandler are totally unable to make her see sense.

But Joey subtly explains it to Monica in a way she can understand.

How about TOW Russ, where they all figure out who drank all the wine (Fun Bobby). All get it at the same moment, except for Joey. Takes him a few extra seconds to figure it out :)

I was trying to remember what episode that scene was from. Thanks! But I think I'm going to use TOW The Two Parts where Joey took some time to figure out why Pheobe and Ursula have the same birthday:).

How do you like it? If it's like my university, there were two parts of intro psych: Psych 100 and Psych 102. I HATED Psych 100 (all that biology--ugh!), and the only reason I took Psych 102 was because the textbook was the same (thus saving me some dough) and my friends were going to take it. But I actually enjoyed it. I'm TAing Psych 102.

I have to admit, I'm not too fond of what we've been doing since September (Module 6, which is mainly developmental psych), because it's just been dragging, and dragging, and dragging... It should get a lot more interesting next year, though.

well i don't know about tha, but in TOW the worst best man ever, ross' wedding wing is lost. And ross, chandler and joey are in chan and joey's apartment, saying where could it be, where could it be? then the duck comes out quacking and ross and chandler look over to the duck, realizing that he ate the ring. Then joey says "quiet we're trying to think!" Then he realizes.

there's one in (TOW where chandlers boss who hits him.?????) joey says something like "to make your boss stop smacking your 'rear', you could rub something on your butt that smells bad. Now what could you rub on your but that would smell bad??" Everyone looks at him in amazment.

sorry i'm really, realy tired. I can't think of anything else. Also i'm in a room with NO heating and i can barely move my fingers, so if i made a lot of grammar or speling mistakes, pleasse forgive me.

The one I remember is the one where ross is moving out (forget the episode name, to tired to look it up :o) because Joey and Chandler cant stand his quietness thing and all....so ross goes to move out, but when Chandler is called as a reference for ross about the apartment, he makes up all this stuff about him so he wont get the apartment and will move back in with them. Stuff like he's a tap dancer, and a pimp and all...then he hangs up and joey looks at him like "What was that for"??? Chandler gives him a "Think about it.." look and Joey does so, then his eyes light up and Chandler goes "There it is!" or "There you go!" or something to that effect
