Spoiler--Where are they going with Ross & Rachel?

In the 912 preview, we see Rachel kiss her foe from 911 and Ross looking on in disgust. Now, given Rachel's inablity to see how her careless behavior with Emma (expecting Ross to do everything) is hurting her nacent "relationship" with Ross, what is going to happen?

It could be that there will be a showdown in which R&R get back together, or it could be it will be The End and Rachel will move out and start dating other folks seriously. At the end of season 10, she'll marry Brad Pitt's character through one of those wacky sitcom events, while Ross will marry Phebe. I have no idea what will happen with Joey.

I have taken a huge amount of heat on this board for insisting that, were they to break up, Ross is absolutely the better choice as custodial parent. If Rachel refuses to even change a dirty diaper, then I will stick to my guns on this one. She has not shown any sign to me at all that she is capable of taking care of that child adaquately without Ross around.

I'm going to have to back you up on that one. Add another bit of evidence: she left a young baby alone with a strange man? There's no way I would ever leave my child with some guy I just met.

Didn't they say Monica would get custody if they died? What if Gunther, due to his unrequited love for Rachel, tries to kill Ross by poisoning his coffee and Rachel accidentally drinks some of it? Then Mon would get her.

As far I can recall, the only things Rachel has had Ross do are the thankless tasks like changing dirty diapers. This doesn't go to show that Rachel is a bad mother, but that Ross and Rachel have had a grating relationship for several years now, which the creators have found provides the easiest way to derive some laughs from.

If you want to try to guess the intent of the writers, maybe your focus shouldn't be on the storyline and characters themselves that cause the tension, but rather on what becomes the end result of all this. It's not the first time that the writers have done this...
