I haven't written in some time because Lee was doing OK during most of this. He would reach a plateau, and then get a little worse for awhile, level off, and then get slightly worse again. This past week he has really had many problems and is now basically non responsive to much of anything. Before he slept for long periods, but when awake, he would still be pretty alert. Now he doesn't stir for much of anything. He sleeps all the time. We had problems with his foley catheter blocking from infection, he spiked a fever of 101, his breathing was labored,increased and shallow, and he began to become totally tense in his arm and leg to the point of horrible shaking. I had to give him several bolus' until the spasms seemed to dissipate. Now, without any medication, he is still out cold, his tongue and mouth dry out too easily, and he is now beginning to aspirate on any food I give him (from indigestion). I am stressed out and emotionally worn. Thanks to friends and ASCer's I have maintained some sense of sanity, along with many hours of horseback riding. I am afraid though that the end is coming very soon. He is looking very pale and his capillary refill time is very slow now (about 10 seconds). I believe I am finally at a place where I would be happy for him to pass on to his new life. We have no quality left and both of us are wearing thin. I am sure it is everything my mother can do, just to watch me having to go through all this and not being able to do anything. She has been a God send, staying here for so long. She has been here since the beginning of Feb. and does all the laundry, and cooking so that I don't totally waste away! lol Been a long week, and I am trying to get everything straightened out with MediCal, SS and the state as far as financial help. I was also told this week that my hospice cap was running out and I had to make sure all paperwork was filled out for financial aid for govt, state, etc. That crap is a pain in the ass that no one should have to deal with. They will still keep me with the same quality care even if I don't get any aid, thank goodness. They take me on as a charity.
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on. Hope all is well with everyone.
