And it was not a Friends producer saying this, it was an "NBC insider". And for all we know, Wanda's "NBC insider" could be the janitor...

The Friends producers have been quoted by reputable sources as not even planning to think about storylines until the writers gather a couple of months later. (This was back in April, so they would just start to be meeting now.)

They wouldn't be so quick to come out and give details of focusing on Phoebe and nixing the Joey marriage, unless they have gotten information that people were very upset by the cliffhanger. This wouldn't seem to make much sense, since the producers were making all these hints just a month ago about Joey still being involved, because people were very upset that he was NOT involved in the storyline anymore.

My guess is that he didn't know it was a spoiler thread, since the labeling does not call it such.

My take on whether or not Wanda knows what she's talking about: that's a clear, certain, definate well...maybe.... She does not have a good track record at all over the course of the show, and for a long time it was clear she was getting most of her accurate information from the filming reports over at Angel's. This last time, it's pretty certain she got a real mole. She accurately predicted:

• A proposal scene from an unexpected direction.
• The ring in the wrong hands.
• The proposal and the ring as an accident.

Somebody told her. Now, that does NOT mean this most recent news is necessarily authentic. Her mole may have dried up, or they could be leading her astray on purpose. So I take her news with a little hope and a whole lotta salt.

No, apparently they just force the producers to rewrite their cliffhangers and change their entire story arc because the show was #3 instead of #1 after Joey lost his shot with Rachel! :-) Certainly the suits take notice of such things!

Rachel has spent the five previous episodes flittering around the idea of being with Ross - and, as we learned in the season finale, he has avoided it only because he's afraid for Emma's sake. Her reply, a wobbly "OK", is the least romantic way a woman could accept a marriage proposal without being rude. Joey himself is wild-eyed with shock and worry. He knows this situation is unfortunate.

Priya made a very good post several weeks back. When Ross grabbed Rachel to induce labor and they started kissing, the crowd went wild. She very sensibly asked, "Is this really the way you want them to get back together?" I thought there would have to be more than that. We got it. Ross admitted he was in love, they had several real kisses, and Rachel began thinking seriously about going back to him.

I am inclined to ask the same intelligent question now. Is this the way you want Joey and Rachel to become lovers? Over a desperate, neurotic mistake? Right now Rachel has done exactly what she told Ross she wanted to avoid earlier in the year; she's prepared to marry for the sake of the baby, and out of fear of being left alone, not out of love.

They have been crafting the last seven episodes of the season very carefully toward an R&R reunion, with Joey thrown in primarily to create a suspenseful cliffhanger. I do not think this love triangle will carry on much longer; for one thing, somebody's got to take care of the newborn. There was a very strong negative reaction to the idea of Ross taking custody; how would people feel if he did all the caretaking while she ran around with Joey all the time? There will have to be ample time for the man (probably Joey) who loses in the this love triangle to recover and find his happy ending. M&C are due a major story arc and they REALLY need to stop ignoring Phoebe. There ARE stories to tell that don't involve the neverending saga of R&R, so maybe they should stick 'em in a corner with their kid and bring the other four to their satisfactory conclusions. For Joey to get the girl, this saga is going to have to drag on for some time, and it's already on its encore.

The nice kiss at the door before leaving was to celebrate the impending birth of their child IMO. I'd have to see them kiss like they did in 207 to accept any romantic indications.

We never heard exactually heard him say that he still loves Rachel. Mind you, Rachel explicitly said that she still loved Ross back in Season 4 and that didn't last for more than a couple of episodes in the next season.

Yes, but what does that have to do anything? Ross is and has always been a great guy and a good friend. I wouldn't have expected anything short of what I saw in 820 from him. He offered to be there for Rachel to help with the baby. That doesn't indicate any romantic inklings.

For all we know, Rachel's "Okay" may turn out to be, "Okay, what are you doing with the ring?". Plus, we have never heard what Rachel actually thinks about a relationship with Joey. I, personally don't think Joey would go along with the supposed proposal. All said and done, the fact remains, none of us know what is going to happen in 901. It is too early to jump to conclusions that a J&R relationship is hanging on this "proposal" and hence it is doomed.

Janice scared the wits out of Rachel with the realities of single motherhood. Rachel was trying to grab at something by hoping that the little kisses with Ross would lead to something and she wouldn't be alone. That is quite different from a well considered reconciliation with Ross. Had she been really serious about going back to Ross, would she be so quick to accept a proposal from Joey at the drop of a ring? (no pun intended) :)

I don't think that Rachel is in love with Joey yet. She isn't in love with Ross either but the fact that she is willing to accept a marriage proposal from Joey indicated that she is willing to look at him as more than a friend. This is the angle I want to see more of. If the acceptance was only based on panic, she would have accepted a proposal from Gunther; somehow I doubt that.

If Rachel is a responsible mother and I hope that she will be, she isn't going to dump the baby on Ross. Joey isn't some stranger that wouldn't want to hang around a woman with a newborn. Ross's access to Emma would be a problem if this was a RL situation. It's pretty obvious that in Friends land, the problem of Ross losing on Emma won't happen. They would all be hanging around together and Ross would get to see Emma just as much as he would, if Rachel and him were an item.

That depends on the writing. I think if Ross gives his blessings, there won't an issue. He already did so in 816 and we don't know what is in his head as he's walking towards her room.

Priya, you make some very good points. The writers have been very smart and have been intentionally putting out vague "hints" because of the very obvious reason that they want us to be uncertain about the future. They want us in suspense. They would not have any obvious confessions of feelings from the characters because that would reveal too much. This way, we can all take these episodes and interpret them the way we want to. All this debate keeps us interested while the summer ticks away.

Much stranger things and relationships have occurred in the world of sitcoms. If Joey has Ross's blessing, I think he would get over whatever guilt feelings he might have. And I think Ross would rather take care of Emma while Rachel is out with Joey than while Rachel is out with some strange guy he doesn't know at all. She is now the mother of one of his children - any man she is with is potentially a step-father of Ross's daughter.

Okay so you find it questionable, but that's what stories are like, people doing things that (hopefully) you wouldn't do.

Joey didn't justify it for himself, he worried about it for weeks, since he felt that his feelings were inappropriate. However, his good friend Ross eventually persuaded Joey to try, since he's in love with her.

There *are* no spoilers until filming begins in August. Until then, anything that claims to be a spoiler (like this) is just a fake.

Even if Ross and Rachel do not get together, and Joey and Rachel do, the likelihood of them getting married in the next year is very very slim, so this is really no surprise. We all know that Joey is not going to pretend that he actually proposed to Rachel, and the confusion will be cleared up within the first episode.

What will continue past the first episode is Rachel questioning herself (and Ross and Joey and everybody else for that matter) as to why she was so quick to say "yes" to Joey if she has no feelings for him.

As for these stories being "leaked" or comments being made by actors/producers: does anyone actually expect them to tell the truth? Do you really think anyone involved in the show would want to let slip whatever information they might know? Is it possible that they say certain things to create more confusion, throw fans off the trail, or keep us guessing so we'll be sure to watch?
