I hate to say it, but this show is so pathetic now. The storylines are so unbelievably lame, not to mention unfunny.
To begin with, the Monica/Chandler story did not even make me smile, let alone laugh. She's still insecure about these issues and they are about to be married? How many episodes now have we had where near the end, M and C have a misunderstanding and or fight, one says something sweet or touching and then they end up in each other's arms. This has gotten so old. I can't believe how funny Chandler used to be, only to be reduced to this.
The Phoebe/Rachel story was OK, but nothing terribly entertaining.
The Joey/Ross thing was weird but funny, yet this plot only took up maybe 3 minutes of the entire show.
To me, this season has been a continuation of the drivel that we saw in season 6. Many of the stories now (ie Tag) are just not funny. These stories are such fluff, I can only hope that somehow, someway, new writers are brought on to return the show to its former glory. As it stands now, the show is embarrassing for many long-time Friends fans who remember when the show used to be so enjoyable.
Personally I thought this was a good and believable story for these two characters. I know a couple of women who are thin now, but at one time were overweight and to this day they are afraid that the weight is going to come back. I think our culture makes being overweight very traumatic for so many people, especially women, that many, many people who have beaten a weight problem are afraid that it's only temporary and they are ESPECIALLY afraid that if they gain weight again that their spouse will no longer be attracted to them. So I think this particular story was very realistic and handled very well.
So do I. It's the first good, plausible, reasonable C&M story I've seen in ages. Monica was completely sympathetic and even touching for once. If they were all like this I'd be much less pessimistic about the show.
i agree with you there. I enjoyed last nights episode to an extent, but the show really has gone downhill, and i am seriously dreading next season. Someone on ATF mention a couple weeks ago that they weren't sure if the current writers have even seen the earlier seasons...I agree with that as well. The plot and character inconsistancies are horrible. There are soooo many POSSIBLE good storylines. But it seems that the writers choose bad ones.
Well, I see it this way. my personal opinion here, so don't take me litarely on this, but: some people say season 3 wasn't very good, but I have to say I enjoyed it, anyway that's not the point. you didn't like season 3, season four wasn't exactly any better, but season five was just... great! so the way I see it is, season 6, not many people like. Season seven, so far, not much better, so can season 8 be the best season? see a pattern see what I'm saying? have faith!!! blimey I'm beginning to sound like a preacher! :)
I got some good storylines! I don't know if you'll like them, but: Phoebe just decides to be gay for a bit, well you know what she's like, she also tries to proove aliens exist. Waddya think? <~~~listens Really? oh alright scratch that I'll think of something else!
I just DL'ed the show and enjoyed it very much. So, like many on this board I also have to disagree. Completely! After being a little disappointed by last week's show, I found this episode funny and romantic.

Uhm. How can one be 100% sure. Ever? Let's be realistic. The US has the highest divorce rate in the world. I doubt anyone can be 100% sure, that a marriage *will* work. One can hope, but feeling insecure about certain things, especially in Monica's case is absolutely understandable. At least as far as I am concerned. In this episode, there was no misunderstanding, nor a fight. So, I actually don't know what you are talking about. Monica was fat. She's thin now. Chandler dumbed a girl for being fat. Monica got insecure about this. End of story. Why is that not believable?
True, this plot did not make me laugh out loud. But it found it VERY entertaining. I simply love it, when the gang does those setup games, like back then, when the girls lost their apartment to the guys.

Very true, but the more this plot would have taken, the less funny and the more ridiculous it would have been. I like the prospect, that this might lead to a couple of great Joey/Ross plots to replace the good old Joey/Chandler combo. I don't understand, why people were afraid, that these guys may be gay. I think, the series has been delivered more than one hint, that Joey loves women. And Ross had been so much in love with Rachel, that him being gay isn't an option as well. And believe you me: The storywriters won't make them gay.

Yeah, the Tag story is lame. It reminds me of the lame Rachel/Joshua stories. But see, I never enjoyed this Season 4 plot. And there have been a lot of plots, which I didn't joy either. Every show has lame plots, in every season. It's general stuff, which makes the greatest sitcom ever. I mean, what about the monkey-stories? The one with the bullies? I didn't enjoy the Kate/Joey plot or the Frank jr./Phoebe plot that much either. Don't get me wrong. All those plots had great laughs, too. But generally, when I rewatch those episodes, I often find myself skipping those parts.

The thing is, that one often forgets the bad things. I simply cannot believe, how a 'long-time Friends fan' did not enjoy this, or e.g. the 703-episode. In my opinion, they were extremly funny and they now can be found amoung my favourite 20 episodes.
