And I thought Rachel had her slutty phase in high school?! That was very surreal in a not good kind of way. Ross (and the way Dr. Green kept popping up in the wrongest possible moments) was fun though!
I don't know about the whole thing, it was quite funny, but seeing as it's less than a handful of episodes left I wonder where they're going to go with this. Or if they're going to go somewhere at all.
<sarc>That would be such a lovely ending for Ross and Rachel, after ten years of dancing around one another, they decide to remain friends, except for when the hormones boil over and they hit the sack. Of course, since they're too dumb for protection they wind up with half a dozen kids in the process, but still, they decide it's best to remain friends....</sarc>
I don't know if it was on ATF or only via email, but Claire (Abraham) and I advocated that the whole R+R saga should have been steadily continued from 902 on, where Ross didn't want to be just anybody. They had all the time in the world then. They could have put them back together or not, but whatever they had done, it could have been done properly. Now, no matter which way they go it's going to be TOW all the haste, pt. 2 - because they have to bring this to an end and there's basically no time left. If they're going to get back together because Rachels father had a heart attack which made her feel horny and alone, I'd rather they leave R+R alone and write one final best buds story, or maybe something involving Phoebe and Ross, those were always fun too.
we'll see... Another scenario I can see happening is _Friends_ ending with R+R together, DS appearing on _Joey_ as Ross (since he's somehow involved in that show, at least as a director) and announces he and Rachel got divorced again.
Awww, I miss Claire! Why, oh why did she let her husband take her over to the dark side (_Survivor_)? And why did he go there himself (didn't they meet through the friends-l listserv)? Oh, I know, it's not fair to blame him--the writers did it. :(
Anyway, I think you and Claire are right. They should have made up their minds then and built slowly toward whichever ending they had in mind. Of course, behind the scenes there was all of the will-they/won't-they regarding another season, which wasn't resolved until they already had quite a few episodes in the can. It's too bad they couldn't have known in advance just how many seasons and episodes they were going to have left and planned accordingly.
I think that would not only make me physically ill, but it would put me off of watching _Joey_. If they were going to have DS appear without JA, they could always just make a reason for Ross to go to L.A. by himself. Like a paleontology conference at UCLA, for example.
I think it's okay to remove spoiler space now, since this is turning into a more general discussion.
Yeah, me too. I exchanged quite a lot of emails during the hiatus between S8 and S9 with her and both of us were quite sure there was only one logical way to go from how S8 had ended. Turns out we were wrong :( I remember her complaining about the imaginary blueprint the writers seemed to be working from and the crudeness of a lot of the jokes in early S9. Then she disappeared, letting her husband watch Survivor (as you pointed out). I think I emailed her at some point during S9, tellingg her how awful the writing had become and how boring it was on ATF without her. Her reply was (I hope she won't mind me quoting her):
"What you have just told me confirms my decision to go away and ignore it. My storyline is dead, the show is ruined, and there's no pleasure there for me."
Even so, they knew they had 22 more episodes after 902. Claire and my "schedule" suggested a possible reunion for February Sweeps and then leaving R+R alone and having them interact with the other four, ie. not a repetition of the siamese _Mondler_ twins ;)
Let's see if _Joey_ even lasts that long. I wish all the best to everybody involved, but spin-offs have a tendency to suck and therefore get cancelled quite quickly
/Curiosity piqued/ Ooh, what did you two come up with?
I loved her analytical posts on atf. . . .
Hmph! (Should we withhold his cookie?)
Yeah, I think I remember you mentioning this. I so see her point; it's not the show it once was. I feel an almost morbid need to see it through to the end, but I can understand her desire not to. I remember her posts about character destruction, and I remember agreeing with her points.
Hee hee. Yeah!
Your schedule sounds a lot better than what they did. I remember arguing this in one of my exchanges with Tennant, when he was contending that the writers could only write boring RnR-together stuff. Or have them fight and break up. Or tease the viewers with near-reconciliations. But I kept saying that just because they've done this before doesn't mean they didn't have other options. And having them happy and on the back burner seemed like the best path to me.
An excellent point. _Frasier_ is the exception. :) (And I almost never bother watching it anymore, either.)
err... Nothing too specific/detailed. Only that the realization both Ross and Rachel had in the S8 finale, that they were still/again interested in one another was going to slowly develop into something more. Of course, once they get to the point where their past is brought up for whatever reason, that could still make or break them as a couple. I still maintain that would have been the most obvious and logical route to go after that finale. And at least it would have been more satisfactory for us hardcore fans. I'd rather see them finally resolve the "we were on a break" thing or that letter Rachel wrote at the beach and all its consequences and not be a couple at the end, than to rush them together at the end just because.
If David Schwimmer remembers the lobster thing (he mentioned in an interview last year), he ought to remember some of the other stuff. So far, we can still hope...
Oh, I loved how my posting on this newsgroup, or rather Tennant's replies to them, caused her to killfile him. Or more specifically, that Tennant killfiling me (and Dennis, someone who disappeared in the depths of ATF... Nice guy) was the reason she decided to killfile Tennant. Ha, those were the fun days... Message ID:
It's not his fault, she said she'd rather watch Survivor with him than watch the show Friends has become.... I'm considering emailing her, what with the final finale about to air, but I seem to remember an email bouncing back, ie. that email address no longer being valid
It's kind of worse for people who are as stupid as me. I didn't start watching Friends until the end of 2001 and bought all the seasons on DVD instead of downloading the episodes or something like that. So if it turned out I didn't like a season very much, I'd already spent about 100 Euro on it. And of course, if I didn't like one season very much it didn't mean the next one was going to be equally disappointing. Of course by the time I'd already lost all hope I'd bought S6 and S7 since there was a discount on them. And to stop then would just be silly....
Yeah, same here. They don't "feel" like the people we got to know in the early seasons anymore. I think of it as a path I've walked down. I've come so far, there's no reason to not walk to the end of it.
Throw in Dr. Green or Monica freaking out and it can be quite entertaining. The Dr. Green thing worked in S2 and it still does in S10, unlike many other things they tried. And either Geller sibling finding out something about the other one's sex life has always (at least) made me chuckle too ;)
I never watched it. But then, I never watched _Cheers_ either.
Yes, I agree. It would be a nice payoff for longtime fans who have followed the characters' history.
Yes, maybe he can remind the others (writers, producers) if they have amnesia. ;)
Heh, I'd forgotten all about that. I was staying out of the JnR vs. RnR couple-proponent wars. :-p
Maybe she'll watch the finale out of curiosity and come back of her own volition for a final farewell and last commentary. It would be nice to "see" her one last time.
Makes you wish for a viewers'-satisfaction guarantee.
He has to have done that already, remember? They wrapped up about a month ago. JA is/was touring Europe in promotion for _Along came Polly_
I was young and didn't yet know that you cannot have a serious argument with Tennant on some issues. Mainly because the only answer some if his ideas/statements deserve is "that's just silly" ;)
[Claire]
We'll see. It'd be nice if a lot of those who are MIA would come back now the show is about to end...
Or a good story writing guarantee
;)
I just watched 808 yesterday, where Dr. Green bursts into Ross' apartment and confronts him about Rachel's pregnancy while Mona is there. Very funny. And Mona (or Bonnie Somerville) is very cute. *And* there was a J+C storyline. What more can you ask for?
You don't forget about it, you're just into some weird sort of usenet based S&M!
Of course I've not been here long enough to know all of the regulars who disappeared over time, but it'd be nice to hear from those I do remember.
I don't know, I like the classic approach of "boyfriend not getting along with his girlfriend's father" better. Ross has always been a sort of doormat and Dr. Green really walks all over him when he feels like it

Im with Mr. Tennant here, plus Ive seen pretty much everything interesting about RnR.
And dont forget, the RnR relationship is the only thing in the show that has a little tension. Who really cares about the Mondler baby story, the writers wont be so cruel to not give Monica a baby. Just look at all the internet boards, there is practically only one discussion, will they or wont they. Of course they will, but ... well you never know.
I think the RnR fans should see the reunion, of their favorite couple, in the shows finale as a tribute. There is simply no bigger storyline in Friends.
I think the writers got stuck in a rut, but there's more they could have done.
Ah, but here's where you and Tennant diverge, since he despises the WTWT drama and doesn't want them reunited. I agree that WTWT has been overdone, but I'd be a sucker for a happy reunion at the end.

For me RnR are a classic romantic comedy couple, so of course they have to end up together. The question is, do I still care, and the answer is, I really don' know. It will depend on how the writers create it. So far I'm neither excited nor disappointed. And as I said before, it's the biggest story line in Friends, what else should happen in the finale episodes?
I think you're right. The amount of times R&R have sort of got back together, any reunion in the last few eppies would mean nothing - going by their track record they'd be split up in a few weeks. Also it seems lame that the basis for any reunion according to 10-13 is based purely on them having had good sex 6 years ago - nothing to do with liking or respecting each other or anything of that ilk. In fact the 2 of them seem the least respectful towards each other of any of the friends - especially Rach towards Ross, she seems to just be rude to him most of the time.
Yup, that's really poor writing. Maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves though and there's no R+R reunion. In which case they still have to deliver a definitive and believable ending for that "extravaganza". I'm sorry for the hardcore R+R fans, who waited all these years but won't see their patience rewarded. These kind of people are the ones who buy the DVDs on the first day they come out, buy the official books, in short the ones WB makes the most money from - and ironically they don't even get what they want/are waiting for.
If you were so inclined, you could argue that all these years of going and back forth, they have developed a couple like relation, and old couples do have a tendency to be less nice to one another ;) However, I don't think that's the case with R+R. I think it's all their unresolved issues and the resulting anger and frustration they still carry around with themselves. I'd have liked to see some of this baggage lifted off of them before the show ends, regardless of whether they get together again or not. But apparently rehashing that J+R plot one more time and stories about swing set traumas and spray on tans were more important. Oh well, you can't have everything...
So true. The JnR rehash was not only useless, it was a waste of valuable episodes. As for the unresolved issues and baggage, I'd so like to see these addressed and worked out in some conclusive, satisfying way, but I'm not optimistic given the ridiculous timeframe the writers have left themselves with. I'm not dogmatic about RnR being together or not at the end. I'd just like to see the characters happy and moving forward with their lives.
When I checked ATF today, the only two new posts were from you in response to my postings and it's basically just us moaning and reminiscing. Kind of like the two old men from the Muppet Show ;)
All that, but I'd like it to be believable too. I think I could have lived quite happily with J+R, if they'd shown Ross was genuinely ok with it. Obviously they never wanted to completely go down that road, else we wouldn't have had to sit through stuff like 1002. I refuse to give up hope completely just yet, probably after 1014...
There was a poll about which season finale was the best on a German Friends site recently. I thought about it for quite some time, which I don't usually do with polls, and went with 124. Although Ross arriving with another girl was quite obvious in retrospective, I still think it was so much more fun than all the others. Most of the season finales aren't even that good, or is it just me?
That was a good one. But I have an unpopular fondness for the season-two finale (Barry and Mindy's wedding). No cliffhanger, Ross and Rachel a happy couple, Ross supporting Rachel against everyone teasing her at the reception, and Rachel standing up for herself. It was just a happy moment that left me smiling as we went into summer reruns. Season three's sucked because it was a mean stunt and a tease. Four I hated because I actually liked Emily and thought that she and Ross could be happy together. Five was like three. Six--I always cringe during the MnC proposal. Seven piqued my curiosity. Eight pissed me off and made me want to stay away from ATF until season nine got underway. Nine was kind of meh for me.

Funny, I think 1 was good nothing great though, and 2 was just OK. 3 actually is my favorite, of course only in connection with TOW the Jellyfish (which also is my favorite episode). I loved all story lines especially Phoebes, who one time wasnt passed over. Its a shame though, what the writers made out of it. I actually think that 4 had the best cliffhanger ever on Friends. 5 was average funny, but the cliffhanger didnt work anymore. 6 was so cheesy, I cant really watch it anymore. 7 was O.K. but with a too predictable Chandler story, cliffhanger failed again. 8 was blah, the Ross conversation with Pheebs was just pathetic, what was he thinking? Uh, and 9, did I mention a forced cliffhanger anywhere, well it didnt work either.
Even worse for me was the Phoebe/Rachel discussion where Phoebe thought they were talking about Ross, and Rachel thought they were talking about Joey. Such a _Three's Company_ style misunderstanding. "What would Chrissy Do," eh, Chandler?
All of that very true, *but* it had Richard and Monica breaking up, which came out of the blue, at least for me. And I think 124 was just funnier as a whole, the whole exchange between the guys on the balcony still kills me. Or Chandler and Joey announcing that "men are here!" *rofl*
And it introduced the theme of bitchy Rachel, who wasn't willing to let go.
Same here. And it introduced C+M, which I could never get behind (and still can't), mainly because it destroyed the best pairing the show ever had.
I hated the C+M marriage sillyness and R+R was just really surreal, in a bad way. They'd been kept apart for most of the season after all, so this cliffhanger was totally uncalled for, and is exactly the thing that put so many people of R+R. And rightly so.
Uhh, I have a nice comment on that one from Claire as well ;) But yeah, really stupid and lame episode.
Mine too, but for different reasons, I couldn't make out where exactly they were playing /Everlong/ by the Foo Fighters during the wedding reception, but I'd read that it was featured. The cliffhanger was very clever though, especially how they carried it over into the first eps of S8. Still, an episode focussed on C+M is never a good thing, per definition
I quite liked the finale, it's probably second if I were to rank the season finales. The cliffhanger as such wasn't that big a deal, there was no way Joey would have gone through with it. To have him pick up the ring in that position and Phoebe giving Ross that talk was a little forced, but it still worked as a whole. For me at least. Oh, and again, the C+M story was awful - and the starting point for all the stupid ovulation stories. The two of them constantly doing it was boring enough in S5, but to repeat that idea during S9 was just asking for trouble
It doesn't get more predictable and forced than that. And to make matters worse, they basically killed off David in favour of Mike. Bad writers, no cookie!

That might be even true, but consider the alternative, J+C as roomies forever. By season 10 we would have complained, that J+C aren't as funny as they used to be. I think a show has to develop (in fact that's one of the reasons I stopped watching The Simpsons a few seasons ago, nothing ever changed, Bart is always Bart, Maggie still doesn't speak etc.). My complaint is that the writers brought the wrong couple together. It should have been J+M and not because they would have been the better romantic couple, but Chandler is just wasted in a serious relationship. His crappy dating record was hilarious. In contrast Joey and the women isn't really funny, he simply gets them, furthermore Chandler is the more independent character.

That was the WORST thing? You can't be serious! What was she suppose to do? Marry a man that she wasn't really sure she loved and questioned the whole "hat" metaphor? It was certainly better that she discovered how she felt about Barry BEFORE they got married than to discover it AFTER! ~~~ Kathy

And when did a marriage between to consenting adults have to involve their entire peer group? Personally, I wouldn't care one way or the other what friends, acquaintences, etc. felt. I'm not marrying (or divorcing) someone just to please them. ~~~ Kathy

I think I wasn't clear enough, of course I meant the feelings of the groom. Do you have any idea how humiliating it has to be waiting at the altar and nobody will come?
I realize you are looking at this from a male point of view. However, there have been instances where the groom left the bride standing at the alter, too, so this isn't a "one-sided" happening. IF the bride (or groom) has doubts, fears and/or anxieties of any kind before he/she walks down the aisle, the wedding should not take place until those feelings are resolved one way or the other. A person can't determine the exact time in their relationship that they may begin having those feelings of doom -- hopefully, they will be discovered before a wedding is planned or takes place, but if they don't, a little bit of short-term humiliation is nothing compared to a loveless marriage. ~~~ Kathy
I'm gonna have to agree with Kathy on this one. To get married ONLY for looks after you find out your future spouse is cheating on you is RIDICULOUS. If I were the person in the situation, I would NOT marry that person, go out and explain to all my guests why the marriage is not taking place and let it be. No matter how it looks, spending all the money on a wedding with an inevitable divorce and causing more expense is not the way to go. Sorry Arch.
Once more, it's not for the looks or appearance or whatever you want to call it, it's for the person, who you promised to marry. And again Rachel found out about the cheating after the wedding, IIRC in TOW the Evil Orthodontist.
Well, then you're one step better than Rachel ;)
That's a common misbelief, divorces don't have to be expensive and no need to be sorry ;)
There is always going to be the expense of an attorney, regardless if you've been married one year or twenty years. Albiet, it is more expensive to get out of a marriage when you've been married for a long time, but there is going to be expense, nonetheless. ~~~ Kathy
I meant bitchy Rachel as in "I don't want Ross, but nobody else can have him either". I think Jill said something like that to her as well.
It'd be hard to get worse than S6 and S7 though ;) Episode after episode of Monica telling Chandler what to do. He was the one who never let anyone tell him what to do, even if it was for his own benefit. Since he's with Monica he spends most of his time being bossed around by her.
True. And I think the "beauty" of J+C was/is, that they needn't be reduced to absolutely moronic plotlines like in 215, where they spend the entire episode in their recliners (mind you, that's one of my favourite J+C episodes) but can also do serious stuff very well, eg. "TOW Chandler doesn't remember which sister" or the whole Joey/Kathy/Chandler triangle.
Very good point, hadn't thought of it like that before. And on another note, Phoebe has to be the most wasted character on the show, I would have loved to find out more about her background and the episode dealing with her father's appearance should have been better. Or at least they should have made it look as important as all their silly sweeps stunts. It was a very important event for the character and they treated it like a filler story.

I see, well that never bothered me too much, in this case, I can even see her problem. What really was ugly in that season, was Rachel making out with Paul, Elizabeth's father, "bizarro world". And in season 3 it also was quite understandable, so short after their break up.
Actually, I thought it was funny back in season 6, season 7 overall is so bad (compared to the previous seasons), that not even J+C in top form would have saved it.
That's true, but how many love triangles can there be and how stupid can characters act. I agree 215 was hilarious, stupid, but hilarious. The line however is thin and the best example is Joey (how the spin off should work is a secret to me) , he really is retarded now. It's better not to imagine what the writers would have done to J+C. Maybe J+C ended too early, but at least it ended on its zenith, and don't forget, it also was necessary to draw the focus away from RnR.
I agree 100 %, it's a crime what the writers did to Pheebs. Her father though maybe is too dislikable, no matter how they introduce him, after all he left his family, so I quite understand. Why they didn't use her mother or brother more often, however is beyond me. I for myself always hoped for her stepfather to appear, I even thought about the casting :)
I wasn't talking about any specific cases here, merely making a general comment. Another example is how she lost interest once Emily was out of the picture, or how she only decided to write that letter *after* Ross had told her he was going to break up with Bonnie.
You're probably right. I'm currently watching random episodes from time to time and there are no episodes from S5 or S7 I'd like to watch. I had no difficulty picking episodes from the other seasons, but those are really the worst IMHO. TOW the routine is really funny, it got me thinking of how they need to put together a montage of all the Friends dancing scenes :)
There's stuff in between these two extremes ;) I still think Chandler owes Joey a night out to a strip joint since he missed it in TOW Joey's dirty day and the next girl Chandler got together with was Monica.
Yeah, that French thing sounded funny when I told people about it, but it really isn't.
Another good point!
That could have been done by looking into Phoebe's past or establishing another couple, just not C+M, they really don't work for me.
He didn't seem that bad when he was on, just a little helpless really.

Hehe, a dancing montage would be great, I hate TOW the routine though, maybe the Gellers are just to weird for me ;)
I know, but how I know the writers by now, it would have become pretty extreme.
Well, we had a hooker since then, what a lost opportunity, specially when I recall their discussion about Chloe in TOW Ross and Rachel take a break ;)
Yes, though Phoebe's past would not have worked in the long term, so another couple was inevitable, I'm still with J+M, cause for me the only working couple left would be Ross and Phoebe and there is that damn triangle again.
Just imagine, him sneaking around in the Friends neighborhood, a few burglaries, Ross watching his precious bones, M+C sleeping in the closet, Joey in front of the fridge and Rachel has a crush on him ... too funny.
Argh, this could possibly turn into one of those "you mustn't go behind the 4th wall" things, let's just leave it at the above
I've got a bit of the Joey groove going on, from the episode where he shows his dancing "skills" to Phoebe and Chandler, somewhere in S3. Chandler's reaction is just priceless. I need to work on a Chandler impression from TOW all the football though :)
I wasn't suggesting it as a long term storyline, but it could have made for an interesting bunch of episodes. As it is, it was mostly ignored
I think I could deal better with J+M than with C+M, so I agree
[Danny Trejo]
I have a hard time seeing Rachel falling for this guy, but other than that...
Yeah, the Richard/Monica breakup was sad. (And I guess from your perspective they made C/M possible!) I'm forgetting some of the details you're mentioning from 1.24. I'll have to watch again sometime.
Yes, true.
Ah, of course. :)
It didn't so much put me off RnR as put me off the writers. They struck me as contemptuous.
I think I remember an interesting post from Claire where she suggested that the writers had set up that scene as a sort of antithesis of the Ross/Rachel breakup.
So it was a musical detective story for you. :)
Yes--a cliffhanger that didn't annoy me.
Check. :)
Yeah, I thought it was very contrived. He just *happened* to stoop down and look as if her were proposing? Right. I didn't really think Joey was going to go through it, but I didn't like the game the writers were playing with the situation. And I just really didn't want to read or write about it on usenet.
Do you have to depend on reruns to catch old episodes, or do you tape them/have them taped? IIRC you don't buy the DVDs, do you?
Not everyone thinks that far. If a character is written to be annoying, most people will dislike him and not the writer(s) who thought it up
Hmm. How that? She told me once how in her opinion it was so obvious that a child would have easily figured out what's going to happen in the end. And of course that the actual proposal scene was the worst acting the show had ever had.
Everything else wasn't that interesting for me, since I had watched S8 before S7, so I knew Rachel was the one who's pregnant.
I'm surprised no C+M fans took offense yet. But that's probably because there's only four people posting here.
Hehe... That was a fun summer though, lots of flamewars IIRC. 'twas a good laugh ;)
So that's my catch phrase then? I didn't know about that :)
I have most eps saved somewhere--I'd just need to be motivated enough to go looking, and I'm too lazy/unmotivated at the moment.
True. To me, it seems like a lack of respect to fans on the writers' part. Like, "Ha--we can play 'em like a fiddle, again and again." Do this enough times, and I'm all, "Oh, no you can't."
Something about the writers trying to recreate the emotional impact of the R/R breakup scene in TOT Morning After, and that this was the reason for having M/C's tears. Only with R/R, the tears were unplanned, convincing, and touching, while with M/C they were contrived and cringeworthy. (This is from memory, so I might not be stating this accurately.)
Oh, I can totally relate. Takes me ages to get anything done. :)
Why does this remind me of something Phoebe said? And why can't I come up with the exact quote, or the episode I'm thinking of?
Ah. So what's with this little trivia tidbit that the tears during the R+R breakup scene were real? I've seen articles which credited it to both of them, with DS saying he couldn't help but be overwhelmed by how invested the audience was, and others that say it was JA who tore up first and caused DS to get teary-eyed too. Or is the whole thing an urban myth and they used tweezers?
It still was a very fine piece of storytelling, especially how they kept it going from 722 until 803. Looking back on it, S8 was pretty good from a storytelling standpoint. I still maintain it was awfully short on the laughs for a sitcom though
There was a thread where someone (I'm not exactly sure who, probably Claire) went through most of S1, with plans to go through the other seven seasons as well to prove to Tennant that Joey was a little slow on the uptake. He was not amused, whereas I was quite entertained.
Since you're really into that age of the characters thing, how old was Chandler in the beginning? Because by _TOW Heckles dies_ he still had to find a thing, whereas I already have mine, even if it's a catch phrase and not a snake. I'm one step ahead of him. Haha!
Yeah, I've been known to complain that it takes me all day to get nothing done.
Yeah, now that you mention it, it does sound like something Phoebe says, though I can't think of a specific line, either. I do have a tendency to channel Phoebe at times. ;)
I don't know the source[s], though I have seen references to it here (atf) and elsewhere over the years.
Heh. I was curious, so I checked Google and found the thread. Boy, was that a big one! I think I got about halfway through. Maybe I'll finish it if I find myself sufficiently bored.
Well, in TOW They're Going to Party, which aired in December of 1997, Chandler said, "I'm 29." So in the fall of 1994, when the series debuted, he should have been 26.
Hardly surprising, when considering your screen name :)
I thought some more about 316 & 625 and I think it's fair to say that both provoke an emotional response, at least from me. Only 316 is very heart-breaking, because you feel for the characters and don't want them to break up, but you also know that it's the logical conclusion of what had happened the weeks prior to that. 625 on the other hand is just making me cringe and hope it'll be over soon. In related "news", as I was rewatching S9, I couldn't bring myself to rewatch TOI Barbados. I had the DVD in my player for about a week, but ultimately I decided to skip it and put the box on the shelf.
Yup, I respond the same way as you to these episodes. I was really surprised to find that TOW the Proposal, part II was #6 of the "top six" countdown. Huh?
That's the way I usually feel about TOW the Cat. Worst. Phoebe. Scenes. Ever!
I'm not happy at all with the episodes that were chosen so far. I knew I should have voted more often.
I don't mind the episode that much when I watch it, although I will say that is a really questionable plot when you think about it. Phoebe is supposed to be a little out there, but this was too far

hi hi, yeah that would have made a big difference ... ;)
But now for a little conspiracy theory. The whole voting thingy might be fake. That would make perfect sense to me, and if TOW with the prom video should be No 1, I will have proof ;)

Thats not true, the writers cheated a lot with RnR, they created a myth. There never was an on again off again relationship. RnR broke up and the reunion at the beach was nothing more than a cliffhanger. They only got back together for one day. That's not what I call an on again off again relationship, thats a stunt.
I think this quote from a TV columnist sums it up the best:
"I don't think Ross and Rachel should end up together at the end of Friends. Yes, I know he's her lobster, but television's longest-running star-crossed couple has been "on a break" for most of the show's run. Not even an impromptu marriage nor the birth of their child could bring them back together. They've both moved on from each other, and putting Rachel back together with the thrice-divorced Ross (easily the show's most ruined character) would seem like a silly plot device merely to prevent a fan rebellion."
She does conclude that paragraph with "I might be okay with the series hinting at a reunion (a la Dylan and Kelly in the series finale of "90210"), but I don't want a wedding." This might be the way to go. I don't expect a wedding.
A realistic and pragmatic afterthought from TVGal even though she does not want Ross and Rachel to end up together. The knowledge of this difference is important. A reconcilation seen strictly from a revenue perspective, assuming the millions of dollars in syndication that would be lost as a result of 'fan rebellion'.
Seinfeld now entering its 3rd cycle in sydnication has crossed the $3 billion mark and I am sure this milestone has not missed the executives at NBC or Warner. Hence the likelihood for the show's producers to pander to the herd instinct of the crowd even though R&R no longer have the chemistry they once had and make absolutely no sense anymore.
Hey, I'm not dogmatic one way or the other. I don't hold the position that they *must* be brought together, nor am I in the camp that holds that bringing them together would be a hideous mistake. I do think that if the writers are planning a reunion, they've given themselves an awfully tight timeframe to work with, and I do wonder if it's possible for them to do it in a realistic way that's true to the characters.
I love _Seinfeld_, but I've reached the point where I've seen all of the episodes so many times, I almost always turn the channel after saying "Not *this* one again!" I've already reached this one with many _Friends_ episodes, so it won't be too long before I need to go "on a break" from it myself. But it'll have nothing to do with "herd instinct," which I do not believe describes me. :-p
