in last week's eppy,TOW ross book, ross says to rachel somethihng along the lines of, "At your college, did they have a section........blah blah blah." Didn;t Rachel go to NYU-the same place that ross teaches? Shouldn't he have said, "When you were in college....." rather than "AT YOUR college," implying that she attended a different school??
Well..Ross did his grad work at NYU it can be assumed, but he may have went to a different University for his undergrad degree.

However, we don't know that Rachel attended NYU, only that her sorority was Kappa Kappa Delta, which is at many universities. We don't know that Ross attended NYU either, grad school or not, especially since NYU does not teach palaeontology in real life (probably why it was chosen).

And invariably, fraternities and sororities will have names with Greek letters. Three Greek letters, to be exact. Some of the will have "chapters" at various campuses, each "chapter" being the organization at that campus. It's kind of like clubs, but more exclusive. Usually joining one involves some prankish initiation rite, and once you're inducted into one, your membership will be recognized at other chapters.
If you've ever seen the movie "Road Trip," the students on the titled road trip try to pass themselves off as members of an all-black fraternity at a different chapter (using their secret handshake), in order to get some free room and board, only that they didn't know it was an all-black fraternity... and our boys are white.

Pretty much just another one of the American traditions we're all glad not to have here. Proms being the obvious one :) On that subject, can someone explain to me why whenever an American person talks about their prom on TV, they call it "my own prom". Whats the significance?
Eh, all a prom is is one last dance for the seniors to remeber their high school days by. It's just a harmless right of passage sor t of thing, I don't see why anyone would view it as a bad thing.
I've never heard anyone say my own prom...Maybe when they're talking about what went on at theirs they might say that.

Well, the prom is for the seniors but underclassmen can go as dates. So, they would say "my own prom" to distinguish one they went to as someone's date from the one they went to in honor of their senior class.

Okay just tell me one thing. Is it something where you realistically need to turn up to in couples? If so, it surely serves to make one huge division between the people that can get dates and people that can't.

I agree. It is soooo stressful on guys (especially at that age) to find a date for the prom, unless you're in the popular crowd, or have a girlfriend. I hated it, but was able to go to my senior prom. Must be why the "Sadie Hawkins" dances don't do so well, cuz most girls are too chicken to ask. . .
Wasn't Rachel was so distraught that Chip had not shown up (til later) that she was going to cancel going to her "own prom"?

I'd assumed that since Rachel had never done her own laundry before the time covered in the show, she'd attended a commuter college and lived at home. She also said in the Thanksgiving Flashbacks episode that she changed her major because there was no parking by the psychology building. NYU's in New York City and anyone trying to drive in there and park is nuts. There are several colleges on Long Island where she, Ross, and Monica are from.

no, i'm not saying ross went there. I'm saying that, (as tennant said) there was an episode last season, where rachel and monica go to pick up ross after his class. Rachel says, "i was a kappa Kappa delta(?). Hey sisters!! Wow, we really are bitches." Because of this statement, I was under the impression that she attended NYU.
