Sophie Ellis Bextor.. denied!

According to E! on-line, Sophie Ellis Bextor is not going to be cast as Emily this season. Which is kind of a shame, but considering she's only 22, she might have been a little too young. Still, maybe she could be Emily's little sister or something like that. All seriousness aside, I am intruiged by Emily returning this season, even if she is played by a different actress. Many have said Helen Baxendale was miscast as Emily (she's better suited for mysteries, IMHO). If Emily shows up again played by an actress better suited for an American comedy, the whole Emily thing could be properly resolved. Whether she got married after TOW the Ride-Along and other such things. As far as who to cast as the new Emily, I'd go with either Kate Becksindale, Minnie Driver or Naomi Watts.

She does a pretty good job in the comedy-drama "Cold Feet" (in many ways, a more complex version of "Friends"). As to a return of her character, its one thing when you recast after one episode (e.g. swapping Jane Sibbett in as Carol after one episode), but once an actor/actress has been around for awhile, as Helen was, I find it rather jarring to visualize someone else in the role.
