Joey's in a sling

In the episode "the one with the metaphorial tunnel" Joeys arm is in a sling....I can't remember why? What episode explains why he's in a sling?

Well, technically, it was from falling off after jumping on the bed. It's a picky technical point, but then the show is full of picky technical points--what was that thing about a break? ;-)

In series it happened at the very beginning (the pre-credits part) of 303 - TOW the Jam. He's not being shown on the screen at the scene as the shoulder was dislocated earlier. I remember him talking on the Late Night with Conan O'Brien about how the scene was quickly introduced to accomodate his condition.

IRL, it happened during taping of a previous episode: TOW No One's Ready. In a take of the scene where Joey and Chandler make a dash for the armchair, Matt LeBlanc missed and dislocated his shoulder.
