I've been collecting Friends Episodes for awhile now, using Kazaa. I think I have about half of them. I have 129 episodes. Isn't that about half of them? Nosir, I luckily have great cablemodem service. Usually I get 3.2 Megabits, sometimes 2.4 because of network loading. That's twice as fast as a T1 !

Thnx - I wasn't sure how many episodes there are. How do the DVDs look? Do they come with some extras?

They look great. Extended episodes, extras, commentaries, nice packaging. I'm talking about the American/Canadian DVDs. Only the first 6 seasons have been released, the 7 is due in April, and I guess that the 8 and 9 will be released before the series finale. And they are not so expensive. Check out the prices on www.amazon.com or www.amazon.ca or www.dvdsoon.ca, for example.

I don't agree. They are not uber nice stuff, but not garbage either. And since the American/Canadian box sets are not expensive, I don't see why European DVDs should be purchased (a part from having your own language audio track or for technical problems, of course). If I were to compare US/CA Friends DVDs with UK ones (I do have season 8 and 9 in R2 UK DVD), US/CA DVDs would win without a doubt. Even the packaging is way better. And that the same for the Italian, French and Spanish DVDs. I know nothing about other European DVDs of Friends.

So, to sum it up:

American DVDs UK DVDs

many episodes are the earlier seasons do not have a little longer extended episodes

very nice packaging single snappers in a box

extra features, like no extra features (IIRC) commentaries, trivia, outtakes

DD 5.0 soundtrack DD 2.0 stereo soundtrack

average 25-20 euro average 24 euro per season (18 quids per season shipped from Play, only for the first six seasons.

Nothing against you personally, I'd just recommend everyone who's not a hardcore fan to get nice and clean (S)VCD rips off emule or whatever the source of your choice is as those DVDs aren't really worth what you're paying for them.

Well, I recommend everybody to buy what the want to. I don't like dvd-rips. I have nothing against TV-rips. I am downloading Friends only because I can't wait to see it on DVD and I don't want to see it dubbed (and in Italy I have no choice). But I don't download a DVD-rip. If I want quality, and a nice video is indeed quality, I buy it. If that's too expensive, I don't buy it. Anyway, that's a totally different issue. If someone is interested in buying the DVDs, the US/CA boxsets are what should be purchased, the best choice. If someone does not want to buy the DVDs, from my point of view he/she could download any tv-rip he want. If he/she downloads DVD-rips, I'm not here to judge, but I don't like that option, I don't think that it's fair. But I agree with you that Friends deserved better DVDs. The extra features are not garbage - in my opinion, of course - but they are not marvellous either. So, if someone wants to buy Friends DVDs only for the extra features, he/she might get disappointed. I do think that the price per season is fair. Having DVD video quality is something I'm willing to pay for. "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" DVDs are damn expensive and their price is not worth it. But not Friends. Imho. And, of course, I've nothing against you personally. :)

I just got interested in FRIENDS when Rachel was pregnant, but even then I didn't watch many episodes that season or last season. But I got hooked this past fall and since then I've bought season 1 and 2 on video (via ebay); seasons 3, 4, 5 and 6 on DVD (just rec'd season 6 a couple weeks ago via Amazon, but haven't watched it yet).

I started down loading the rest of the seasons 2 or 3 weeks ago. I've downloaded all but 3 episodes of season 7; every episode of season 8, all but 1 episode of season 9 and all of season 10 to date. I use WINMX.Those I'll watch these on my computer and transfer to CD. Eventually I'll burn them to DVD.

The episodes sure go fast with no commercials!
