so who watched the premiere tonight? what did we think of it? I thought it was pretty funny w/ lots of laugh out loud moments. But as much as i try, i'm still unable to watch watch joey and rachel together. They have no chemistry. It's like watching a brother and sister kiss! Thank g-d they're over soon!!! Overall i think it was a pretty good premiere, not my favorite but still good.

I saw the premiere and yes, Joey and Rachel didn't have the same chemistry they had last year leading up to the season 9 finale. I think it had to do with the writing and the direction the show will finally end up with. Personally I have always thougth Joey and Rachel would make a good couple if they tried. Both geninually care for each other and unlike Ross, there exists no jealousy among them. Joey may play an idiot but his character is the most honest of the group and the best friend they have. When Chandler kissed Joey's girlfriend, Joey was angry at Chandler for lying to him, not for stealing his girlfriend.
As for the premiere, I thought it was great. Chandler and Monica had support roles around the main story line of J&R and R&C, they did a superb job with Monica's hair gags. Phoebe is coming into her own with her raunchy relationship.

I didn't like the "I'm soooo sorry" from Rachel and the boob thing I thought it was childish. If she were serious about Joey she wouldn't have had to be sorry she would have told him to begin with. However, it is a show and it and life will go on (at least for a few more episodes.)
Something I noticed from the premiere is that most of the things that happened were in the little commercial for it, there wasn't any true surprise, I didn't think anyway, I mean they kissed, Ross saw. No fight no nothing...:( anyway theres my two cents, which is probably all it's worth...;)

Once again, Phoebe's character is becoming disappointing. She is funny and naive, but still no one seems to care that she has slept with 2 different men during the weekend, Mike has been seeing someone else for 3 months and sleeping with her and now is sleeping with Phoebe again. Doesn't anyone think about diseases, or do they not exist in Friends world? They are single so they can sleep around as much as they want with no complications? That bothered me about Phoebe too with Charlie Sheen's guest character, the Navy guy. I am a Ross & Rachel fan, I admit it. Rachel said she and Ross haven't "dated" in 6 years. Maybe not, but they do have a baby together that is less than one year old. Does that not count for something? I believe that they will have to end the series with Ross and Rachel together again.

No they don't have to end the series with R&R being together. Why do you feel the writers can so easily discount all the crappy history these two have shared over the years? There's never, ever been enough trust between them to sustain any kind of relationship and if you think a baby will magically do that for them, you are sadly mistaken. For the short period of time that Rachel lived with Ross before and after Emma was born only proved to her (and everyone else) that he STILL wants to control her. It's OK for Ross to date, but not Rachel. Case in point -- Rachel wants to date one of Joey's co-actors during her early pregnancy -- Ross freaks out about it, but still continues to date Mona. I could list many more instances, but it'd take up too much space. You do get the point, though, right? ~~~ Kathy

Personally, I think neither of them probably should have dated. Just because Ross is a man and wasn't actually carrying the child doesn't mean he was a part of this. I think for Rachel's date to hear "I'm pregnant and living with the father of my baby, but we aren't in a relationship so it's okay to date you" would sound strange, as well as Ross telling his girlfriend "The woman living with me is carrying my baby, and we used to date, but we aren't in a relationship right now." Mona had every reason to be upset with Ross because of that.
No, a baby won't change everything and make it magically okay. It just seems so convenient to forget that they have a child together and that bond will always be there, no matter what happens between them personally. Apparently making a baby isn't considered "dating".
No, they don't have to end it with them, but they could and then the fanfic people could take over and do what they will. Maybe Ross and Rachel could rent a duplex together so their future SOs could all live together in the same house and raise Emma together? It's a bit strange, but it could work. But I would rather have them end the series with them together and just believe in my head that the characters lived happily ever after.

Actually you have some good points. I also think the series should end with R&R laying their feelings out for each other and. like when they were truly in a relationship, they would have no reason to see others, they could marry, have other children, yadayadayada........................
But then again, it's just a tv show - why get so caught up with it all. R&R forever...........................

No, I don't think they'll end up together, but it would be nice if the writers explored the relationship between them for more than 2 or 3 episodes. There has been too much anticipation for this relationship to just blow it off so quickly. ~~~ Kathy

I just don't see what good introducing the j/r storyline is doing? It's only gonna dissapoint j/r fans b/c of the fact that they're not ending up together. So by introducing a temporary romance, they're making j/r fans upset and making r/r fans angry. Again, i just don't see why they would have introduced the storyline. Part of me really wishes last season was the last season, b/c then the writers wouldn't have had to resort to this storyline.

i think the late-2nd-season episode with the condom fiasco between rachel/ross and monica/richard proves that the friends crew definitely knows about condoms. there are plenty of other examples - joey's borrowing of chandler's box of condoms in london, for one. however, ross and joey's new knowledge that condoms are not always effective (after ross learns that rachel is pregnant) certainly points out that they aren't totally conscious of the risks of lots of sex.
granted, i don't recall any scenes involving phoebe displaying her knowledge of safe sex, but that doesn't imply that she is clueless in that area.
i think it counts for _something_, yes. as for what that may be, who knows. i'm a R&R fan as well, despite my logical half scoffing at the notion of R7R getting back together. i think 8th-season (and perhaps early 9-th season) R&R probably had a good chance of getting back together, if they hadn't always managed to screw it up. but after the first 5 or so eps of 9th season, they both seem to show very little interest in each other. and their past history seems to show that things just won't work.
however, ross' reaction at the end of 10x01, and the probable direction the writers are going to go with it seems to show that ross still has feelings for rachel...

One of the funnier things they've done for a long time. The best part was that Whiney Ross didn't show up for 35 whole minutes. The worst part was that Whiney Ross DID show up -- they never seem to get that Ross is great until he starts whining.
