I don't think letters will be particularly helpful. Everybody knows that the show is popular--it's really whether the cast wants to do another year or not.

Rumor has it that the entire Friends cast has been invigorated by this years stories/ratings and they are now leaning towards doing one more year at the same pay they've been getting for the last two seasons.
It is important for the writers to know this a.s.a.p., obviously, because it will change the rest of this year (they will probably delay the inevitable Ross and Rachel reunion until the very end). They have to leave some stories for next year now.

Aniston has said that it would probably be the last season because others wanted to go on with their lives ie Schwimmer and Kudrow. But Aniston has made it no secret that she wants to continue the show.
for the money...its all about the money...which makes it sad...and if they do have other seasons then it won't be "sincere" as i call it because they are not wholeheartedly into it...only interested in the "cash cow."

Those comments were made by people, including journalists, who didn't understand the proposal. If they only make half the episodes, NBC and Warner Brothers lose a *huge* amount of money. It would be cheaper to pay the cast $20m per episode to make 24 episodes.
But if they make 24 episodes with less than the full cast in each, then NBC & WB earn as much money, for a smaller outlay, hence more profit.
