Did you guys see the cast of Survivor 2? Any of you notice that they look a little like the first cast? As if the producers were saying "Hey, let's try to make this Survivor like the first one". Survivor will sink.
I don't think Friends has anything to worry about regarding Survivor 2

Um, that would mean only a few million people were still watching it. You must have misunderstood, because "Friends" generally gets about 20-22 million viewers a week.
And "Survivor" generally gets 50 million viewers per week, so why are you kidding yourselves? With all due respect, no television show, and certainly not "Friends," has galvanized the American culture and created headlines quite like "Survivor." You don't see David Letterman making fun of plotlines on "Friends" or "Friends" season finales making the front page of nearly every newspaper in the nation, now do you? I LOVE "Friends," but it is going to get its hiney kicked against "Survivor 2."
whoa.... slow down. i ain't sayin' that friends will beat survivor, but survivor drew it's large numbers in the summer on wednesday night's when it ran against reruns of NOTHING. plus, it is the 2nd survivor. the first was a phenomenon because no one had seen anything like it before. there's no way it gets the numbers it got this summer.

I wouldn't say that. It beat WWTBAM in its first few weeks, which is arguably more formidable than Friends. Plus, summer is typically a time of low ratings...

i saw that episode. You misunderstood. Friends' last episode (aired on Jan 4th) got 20 million viewers, which is pretty good. I seem to remember previous episodes from last season getting somewhere between 13-17 million. Just a side note- ER got 30 million!!!!

I agree Tennant. I can't understand how Raymond is the #1 sitcom in America when Friends is always in the top 2 or 3 every week (except during reruns). I heard Access Hollywood reported those figures, and I'm convinced they got their figures all wrong.

I checked out the ratings report on zap2it.com, and noticed that Raymond nabbed the #1 comedy spot just last week by 1 ratings point. Friends has been the number 1 comedy until the 3rd week in December, Just about the time that the christmas reruns began. Raymond has been stuck in the #5 spot overall all season, while Friends was at #2 or #3. Now that the new shows are playing again, you'll see Raymond back at number 2 or 3 in the comedy department.

Actually, Friends averaged 23.5 million viewers last year. This year it has gone up to 24 million. These are the new episodes I'm talking about. Reruns don't do well for Friends, causing it's seasonal average to go down to 20 million viewers. But technically, if it was a straight season, airing new episodes straight, Friends would be #1. Friends is always doing better each week than Everybody Loves Raymond, but when Friends reruns, it sinks, and as I said, it lowers its average.

Friends beat the pants off of ELR last week, and will do so this week also. ELR's only consolation is that it does pretty well in reruns. Basically, I'm pointing out that the hype for S2 isn't nearly as wide as S1 was. The fact that the majority of voters won't watch, can mean that Friends has a safe bet of securing their time slot as Number 1.

I think Friends will beat Survivor II. Here are my reason :: 1)The first Survivor aired in the summer, the time of reruns, giving it absolutely NO competition. During the season of new eps, Survivor II will have to face fans...especially loyal fans of competing shows...such as Friends. 2)Survivor II will almost be like the first one, and I'm not sure if too many people are going to be interested in that. I mean, it may be boring. 3)Friends, as many critics and people say (I agree), has a loyal audience. Survivor II will be like the old one, and no one will abandon Friends just to watch it. 4)Friends airs during the first half-hour, which is the part that least amount of people watch. During that 30 minutes, it's all chit-chat. Mostly people are only interested in the tribal council meeting at the END of the episode. So likely, people will tune into Friends at the first half-hour, then Survivor II at the second. 5)Many online polls and message boards all over the internet (and believe me, I've been around the 'net) have said they would rather watch Friends. A poll at www.gist.com had people choose between Friends and Survivor II, Friends had 70.3% and Survivor had 29.7%.
Survivor II may beat Friends in its first couple of episodes, as people will test it out, but Friends will pull through in the end.

TV Insiders and many people are saying that people will tune in to Friends at the first half hour, and then to Survivor II at the last, more interesting half hour when the votes are cast.
I love Friends. I have every show taped, I love all of the actors and I don't want it to ever end. But, it will, probably after next season. It may lose some viewers all together, but there will also be a lot of VCRs in action, too. I for one, have to work on Thursday nights, so I have o record it, that doesn't mean I won't watch it. Friends is one of the few shows to stay somewhat consistant in the ratings and storylines. One show is not going to change that. We'll be OK!

I think the shows that will be hit the most from Survivor II are Whose Line Is It Anyway, whatever FOX show is on at 8, and The Gilmore Girls (a good show, if overrated, that I record on Friday nights up North). Friends and Survivor will continue to do well, but not to the levels they're accustomed to.

I would agree with this....It may do well initially, but the ratings for Survivor even sunk in that time frame between beginning and the shake down in the end. It wasn't nearly as exciting to see Josh kicked off, as it was Susan......

Back to the Friends losing 20 million viewers this year. They said on Access Hollywood that FRIENDS ratings were down 2% to 20 point something million viewers this year. They didn't lose 20 million viewers, they may have lost about one million, but that's about it. I don't think FRIENDS is going to get it's butt kicked by Survivor II as badly as some people think it will. For one thing, Survivor I was on in the middle of the summer opposite REPEATS, so of course people were going to watch something new rather than something they've seen before. Another thing is, and the original cast has even said this, the people on Survivor II aren't going to be acting as natural as on the first one because all of the expectations have been set for them and it is much more popular than it was the first time around, so they will be acting in front of the camera and it will probably look more scripted.

Well said. I wouldn't be surprised. As I said in my original post, I noticed that this new cast looks strangely similar to the old one. And even when they show us scenes from the show it looks a tad fake. And is that muscle chick wearing underpants?
Agreed. NBC just announced they will put The Weber Show on hiatus during February, also. I wish they could come up with something irresistable to put on at 8:30, like the yearly Friends blooper tapes that Larissa mentioned are given to the crew every year.
Another bad omen for Survivor II is that Wanda from E! Online thinks it will be "ratings gold", and she is wrong more often than right!!
