Can we get rid of him?
Just one word...... Filter :)
Oh yep! Cheers :)
To make this thread less childish I will confirm the original subject line. Michael Skupin, CEO of a Christian software company, did indeed suffer second degree burns on his hands and part of his face. He was evacuated from the game and flown to the best burn center in Australia and treated. After several months of rehab, he has regained use of both hands and looks to be no worse for the wear - except, of course, that he had the worst "voting off the island" experience of anybody. He attributes his complete recovery to the power of God and has used it as opportunity to witness. He strikes me as being a pretty neat guy, actually.
This incident HAS made some people a little sickened by the idea that one person's profound misfortune got turned into entertainment. Bread and Circuses. Discuss. :-)

Well, then I apologize. And I thank you for the compliment. I can only assume by calling me "moran" he was comparing me to "Erin Moran", who was a fine actor who had a lot of talent and potential, or at least until she went insane and tried to put a spell on her former cast mates. Again, I thank you, Shark. And sorry for all the confusion.
I love everybody! E.

What is a "troll"?
On Tue, 6 Mar 2001 17:33:58 -0500, "Wavy G"
It's a fee you have to pay to drive your car on the highway. Usually this involves stopping your auto at a "trollbooth" for such a purpose.
"DAVIDHERO" wrote in message news:[email]...
Hmmm.... Knowing "DAVID HERO", this is probably just another one of his funny jokes - at my expense. So I am just going to suspend accepting this little "knee-slapper" (you heard me. don't think I'm not on to you!) as actual fact, and wait for someone else, some one with a little better history of crediblity, to respond to my query.
(Note to DAVID - If this is actually true, a thousand apologies. I just can never tell with you!)
Ok, that's all. Bye!

The existence of different personae is pretty standard for fairytales. With hundreds of years and thousands of people, you're likely to get a few different angles on the same idea. I'd say they're close enough to be called the same thing.

I'm not familiar with that story, but in our culture a troll is a big, stupid type of "monster" with trees growing on its back and nose. It has got ugly hair etc. The troll lives inside the mountains and usually has tons of gold. The hero (in our country it's a bloke called Askeladden) wins over the troll in every story.
"Marita Bakken" wrote in message news:[email]...
Isn't the hero supposed to win over the *girl* in these stories?
On Wed, 7 Mar 2001 18:13:13 -0500, "Wavy G" wrote:
Oh sure, but by winning over the troll, he gets all the gold and returns as a rich man. Hence, the women and the princesses in the country go crazy when they see him. ;)
Seriously, though. We have fairy tales where the hero finds magic things inside the troll's mountain, that help him get the girl.

A serious answer to your question is a troll is a person who dislikes the subject of the newsgroup and comes in just to agitate, irritate and start trouble basically

Christian software company?
And who does he credit for his passing out & falling into the fire to begin with? Seems odd to me that if the power of God helps him regain the use of his hands, it wouldn't also help him not fall into the fire and avoid all that recovery, etc.? If nothing else, he consumed a fair amount of limited medical resources better used on someone burned in a car wreck or a burning building. He volunteered to be on "Survivor", after all, and had to beat out 1000's of other contestants. I wonder what sort of waiver the contestants sign?
LiamD (who doesn't watch "Survivor", in case you're wondering)

His own carelessness.
The mindset is that Mike caused his own problem, and God helped him recover from it, and used it as an opportunity to have Mike spread the Word. You may choose not to agree with him, but I do. However, since I am believer and you are not, we are at an impasse and must agree to disagree.
Are you saying that people who get hurt in the process of making a TV show don't deserve medical treatment? This is a chilling thought. I can see it now; in emergency rooms around the world, treatment of injury depends on an explanation of how one got injured. While you are filling out insurance forms, you must also fill out a plea stating why the activity you were participating in at the time of injury was worthy. You may not like Survivor, but I think that's a bit harsh.
How do you feel about treating injured athletes? Boxers? Race car drivers?
Huge. It's very, very long.
Hey, since you don't like Survivor, I'm surprised you didn't comment on the question I asked about the idea of presenting Michaels' injury as entertainment. I have seen a number of people talk about what a "great" episode it was and that really bothers me.
Speaking only for myself, I found the episode very good but not because Mike was injured. I don't enjoy watching people get hurt but I know that he eventually recovered and seems to be doing well now. I think the episode could be called "interesting" and because of that, it was a good episode. It held my interest and the circumstances were riveting and because of this, it was entertaining to *me*. The actual injury was hard to watch. But it was still compelling so I guess the episode could be called "entertaining" although it sounds callous. But my overall reaction was one of sympathy for him, not "Wow, Mike got hurt, that's realllly cool!".
This is probably clear as mud... :)
