That's one of the things that could have been done in S5 or S6, when the focus was on M+C. Instead of pulling cheap stunts like a Vegas wedding or a flirtatious sister, some of this old stuff could have been brought up. They still could have done their sweeps routine, in that one of them finally freaks out and blows the other one off - this way people would be fonder (more fond?) of an reunion, if there's going to be one. (because they got to see these two are willing to work on their problems...) oh well.

Listening to the commentary on the S3 DVDs was quite interesting, as David Crane said one of the outstanding things about Friends is that they go through with these storylines, they are daring enough to break up the couple that was pretty much the focus of the first three years etc. But on the other hand, he didn't seem to like seeing "his" characters suffer like that. Martha Kauffman really annoyed me with her "they're so much better when they fight" - especially since it was like every other sentence

Since I read the first interview with Marta Kauffman I didn't like her. She was the one to say "these fans of the show should get real friends" or something to that affect when asked about the hardcore fans. Also she took her private matters onto the show, she insisted on the scene where Phoebe makes Ross apologize to the cat in 402 even though nearly everybody else was against it (her mother had just died).
Yeah, I don't really understand why people liked their "big" fight in S9 which caused Rachel to move out. The storyline around it was really stupid and it seemed poorly acted, at least compared with the infamous TOT morning after. But it is a general observation of mine that Marta Kauffman brings hardly any value to the audio commentaries in general, she seems to be talking about herself most of the time (on the S2 DVDs she goes on about how the OJ trial affected her to an extent she couldn't concentrate on the shoot at hand...), whereas Kevin S. Bright and David Crane do share some interesting anecdotes/insights - Kevin S. Bright even causes the first *bleep* in Friends history :)
Meanwhile, I came across something. Monica asking Rachel if she'd be a surrogate is kind of weird in retrospect, huh? I mean, not only did Rachel get pregnant but also Monica can't seem to get pregnant and is now looking into adoption. What are the odds? :)

While watching TOW Phoebe's Dad, I thought of what you'd written regarding knowing how things change in future eps. That whole bit with the grandmother saying P's dad is the guy who knocked up her mom and stole her Gremlin is ruined by the whole Teri Garr thing in S3/4. :(

How do you mean? Meanwhile, I watched the episode that is completely ruined to me because of the above, TOW Ross's wedding. Up until then, everything was cool, but all of a sudden there seems to be nothing but tension between Ross and Emily, and Chandler and Monica get together, which was the first step in removing the best buds idea from the show :( I can't say I fully enjoyed any season since then, even though many people rate S5 so highly.
Another thing I did notice was in the "morning's here" episode is, that Chandler's bed room can't be where we see it since there's a wall there, the wall we see in Joey's room when we look into it from the living room doesn't seem to exist and I wonder if the "morning's here" guy has moved, else Rachel should hear him now as well, don't you think?

My son loves _Sesame Street_, so I've been watching again. In some ways they're both kind of Ernie-ish--Bert doesn't have that great a sense of humor. Plus he reads books about oatmeal and stares at paperclips. But Chandler's more responsible, so he's more Bert-like in that respect.
The TG episodes took motherhood away from Lily--and made it so she'd never been "knocked up." Are we supposed to think the grandmother was lying about that, or that Lily lied to her mother? Grrrr. I wish they'd never done that. :(

Yes, there are definitely problems with the layout of the building, in that ep and others. I've also wondered about the "morning's here" guy. Also, in that episode, Rachel thought the apartment was horrible, but apparently it's just fine with her now. And remember how mean Rachel was to Joey in that episode?

Ah, I see. The whole story arc about Phoebe and her parents is disgraceful IMHO. It only ever came up in the middle of a season and was never given the importance it deserved. The way her father was revealed was shameful, if you think about how many episodes these people can waste on Ross not being okay with Joey dating Rachel for example, which everybody knew anyway. This is quite an important part of the character and even when this arc was explored she was second fiddle to the others...
Many people I've spoken to seem to have stopped watching Friends around then, especially from my English friends.
Good point about Rachel bitching about the apartment. But since it's her you could probably explain this away with laziness, at least this way she doesn't have to go looking for a place of her own and she can drop Emma off at Monica's or Ross's without having to go all that far. Not saying she would, because she seems very strongly attached to Emma, but the possibility is there.

When Phoebe gets married, I wonder if she'll stick to their Maid of Honour arrangements. Hopefully Monica would drive Phoebe nuts with all her wedding suggestions, enough to make her dump Mike and runs off to find David. :)
