Is it copyright infringment to create the transcript & share with others? I'm just currious There is no monitary gain, credit is given to the show not the person or persons who typed up the transcript. Is it any different than recording the show to watch with your friends over & over? I know there are some people on this site who feel strongly about the copyright laws so maybe an explanation can be given.
Seems to me that trascribing the show to share with others is about the same as getting screen shots or taping the show to watch over & over.
but thats just me so I thought I'd ask for clarification....

I am not an expert but I don't thing that the fact of selling really matters. What's important is that the "thing" - in this case the script - is copyrighted and I am not the copyrigh holder. In Italy - where I live - if I copy a DVD or a CD I own and pass it to a friend I am not doing something legal, even though I am not earning money from it. I don't know about other countries. Anyway, I'd prefer to remove the script not because I am driven by morality or ethics (I don't have problem about sharing the scripts, or downloading a Friends episode not yet aired in Italy) but driven by the wish of staying out of troubles. ^_^. And, yeah, I don't like downloading episode I could purchase on DVD, therefore I bought the first 3 UK DVDs of the 9th series and I'll buy the others as soon as they are going to be released, even though I am going to buy all the American box sets. :)

Some copyright holders seem to think so. AFAIK there's not yet been a verdict re DMCA and transcripts, but IANAL. It would of course be illegal to publish the scripts (!=transcripts) without permission.
I guess he was frightened about probable court costs.
Actually in most cases both are credited.
In many countries' law systems it matters much whether money was involved.
Yes, the script is copyrighted, but is the transcript? That's probably differing from country to country.
*That* is still legal here in Germany, if it's really a freind or family member.
