Season 2 illogicals

For relief I recently rewatched most of season 2 and there're two major things I still do not understand:

1. How unsure do you have to be to not forgive someone you think you love something stupid like that list? If he didn't print it out, she could be sure he did it in his head only, everybody does in such or similar situations. But Rachel almost made it a bigger thing than the break-up in season 3.

2. What a big deal is it to offer to be a prom night replacement date? I mean Rachel knew about Ross's long lasting crush on her, so what's it all about? I might have to add that we don't have something similar to prom night over here.

Of course I know it was written in to keep the audience watching interestedly, but it just don't make sense IMHO.

I thought it was pretty stupid also but I guess Rachel was really insulted that Ross thought that Rachel being a waitress was one of the things that was a "con" on his list.

It might seem like a small thing but did you notice how cute Ross was when he took the flowers out of the vase in the hall to be sweet/romantic. And then Ross's face when he sees Rachel leaving really pulls on your heartstrings(is that the expression?).

Man... maybe it's a German thing, I've never understood those two scenes either, especially the Prom Video. Though I figured at one point it maybe that Rachel saw that Ross actually got hurt a lot more in their past as she did (her whole talk in CP about getting clobbered (sp?) again and again...) I dunno, it never really made sense to me...

I guess you just have to have experience with loving someone so much and not being able to express it. Prom Night was just an example of the fact that Ross would have done anything for her--he was hesitant at first but then decided to go for it and show her a wonderful time. He felt terrible that she was so sad. So, Ross goes for it and starts to get so excited...and then he is crushed again in that he won't get that opportunity.

This is one of the greatest scenes in TV history. The purity of his love for Rachel is palpable. Very sweet.

I agree, I loved this scene. And when they kiss and Phoebe says "See, she's his lobster!" I just loved it!!!!

I would think that early in a relationship when someone makes a list of your
faults, it would really be painful. The old saying "love is blind" .. if
we were noticing her faults now, how many faults would he notice down the
road. She might feeling unloved..
This would have the exact opposite affect as the list. The list made her
feel like he didn't really love her. And the prom video showed her that he
not only loved her, but has loved her since high school. Someone finding
faults so early in the relationship is scary, but the video showed that
honestly the love wasn't that new and vulnerable to Ross, it was a love that
had endured a very long time. This would make Rachel feel more secure
again.

"Victoria":

Maybe in a normal case, but Ross had to decide between two women and the list showed that his decision could never be vice versa ("She's not Rachel.", "It's always been you, Rach."). It's just an instrument for him to become sure about his feelings again -- and I think Rachel is smart enough to see that.

Well, she says: "Imagine the worst things you think about yourself. Now, how would you feel if the one person that you trusted the most in the world not only thinks them too, but actually uses them as reasons not to be with you." It's a bit like later in the break-up where she says: "you're a totally different person to me now. I used to think of you as somebody that would never, ever hurt me, ever." She's really rigourous when disappointed.

If you see how miserable she is after Ross shows off with Julie or when he's planning to have sex the other night, it's just overreacting to block all his tries to explain the list (Did she ever find out what Ross said about Julie?) or apologize for it. If she knew how the list was made like we do, and I'm blaming Joey and Chandler here, I'm sure she would have forgiven him.

After all it's just been written in to hold the suspense and keep the audience tune in every week.

But she knew that already, as she says in the pilot. Or is it the difference between "crush" and "love" again? Btw.: They don't say they loved each other before 220 "TOW Old Yeller Dies".

They've seen each other for about 1.5 years almost every day, you can't avoid seeing stuff like that ("just a waitress" and "clumsy ankles" don't count IMHO). And Ross: "I wanna be with you in spite of all those things" -- if he only said that he loves these little 'imperfectnesses' of hers, although others might dislike them.

I just don't buy it that, after she was *so* upset by the list and refused any apologize, a little gentle thing from the past makes her change her mind immediately. I'm happy that it did, but I don't get it.
