Ellen I think
Lets wait until the wedding !

I'm sticking with Ellen. There's been too many Elizabeth's already.
I'm going to say a non "E" middle name, because they don't really seem all that concerned with continuity. How about Marie?

Didn't she use her intials, MEG in an episode about her being hooked on the stockmarket? I think it's Elaine
But were there too many Elizabeths in 1971?
A point to ponder.

She was born in 1971? In revisionland, maybe. In season 1, TOW the Ick Factor (May, 1995) she said she was "25 and 13 months," indicating she'd turned 26 4/95, making her birth year 1969. The writers have been a little cagey as the characters approached 30 (Yeah, Rachel, your 30th b-day was really traumatic and TWO YEARS LATE). Grrrrr.

Doesn't she say her name in that episode ... it was just on WB11 here in NYC and I missed the opening where she might have said her full name. For the love of god, can someone stop the madness and go to the video tape to find out what it is????

wins!
Nope, looking at the script she only refers to herself as MEG.
JOEY: Hey Monica, why are we watchin' the business channel?
MONICA: 'Cause I was going by it the other day and I saw that there was a stock with my initials, MEG, on it and, well, sometimes I have to watch for two or three hours before it comes up again but when it does, it's pretty exciting.
RACHEL: Ok honey, you really need a job.
Oh well. Damnit.

i want to guess on Erin. I dont know why, but that sounds okay. Hope I am right!!, doubt it, but hey, this is fun. Anyother guesses, like what is Chandler's job. . . . hopefully monica knows, cause I think she should at least know what her husband does for a, er, not living, for a job. :-)
Chandler is a data processing supervisor. I think...

That's what he was six years ago, he may well have moved on since.

You know, with him never going to work, I'd say he's fired but he hasn't told anyone yet... but no he is a data processing supervisor.

Alrighty then. Well there's 704 TOW Rachel's Assistant:
Rachel: Chandler, you have an assistant right?
Chandler: (angrily) Did she call? You-you told her I was sick right? Always tell her I am sick!
and 712 TOW They're Up All Night:
Chandler: Hm-hmm, I told you! (Looks at the clock) I can't believe that I've only got two hours before I call in sick for work.
I could probably find more but I've suddenly stopped being so bored.
That's exactly it!

Oh, I see what you mean, Mari. Well, it's a fascinating hypothesis, but if Chandler had been fired, his ex-assisant at the office would know he did not work there any more. It would have to be that he was pretending to Monica & Rachel, and then begging his ex-assisant to always tell his friends that he was sick, the other way round.

Actually thats the job he was offered and because of it desided to quit. Wich job he took later in that episode isn't stated (though he _was_ worried bout the wenus afterwards).
Well, it *is* possible that they won't state their full names in their vows. My husband and I only used our first names, and don't forget "I Ross take thee, Rachel. . . ."
So we might never know.

I don't think there's actually anything legally wrong with "do you take each other." I think the minimum requirements are the "I now pronounce you" and the license (at least this is the impression I got from the Pennsylvania justice of the peace who performed my ceremony).
Mardi
I was told by my minister when I got married many years ago in Texas that it's the vows made during the ceremony that make the marriage legal and that the "I now pronounce you man and wife" is only a formality and not really legally necessary to make the marriage official. That's what he said, anyway. It surprised me at the time.

That's odd--when I was working on writing our vows, I was reading about different kinds of ceremonies, and one example was a couple who did no vows at all--they simply walked around the room, hand in hand, in silence, walked to the front, and were pronounced husband and wife. The book said this legally married them.
I suppose it probably varies from one state to another. For example, Pennsylvania has the option of a Quaker wedding, which requires no officiate at all--the couple can simply fill out a special marriage license that has "I, ______ marry _____," or words to that effect.
