I know what you are referring to when you say that Monica acts like a mean old hag (to say the least) in certain other episodes we've seen, but even though I've seen all the episodes we've had so far this season, I wrote this reply to Tennant's review of 801 trying to remember what I thought of her behaviour after 801 was aired. Monica's comments in the opening scene of 802 were disgusting, and if it hadn't been for what Chandler did later in the same episode, he could have gone on their honeymoon alone. She was married to him! What else did she want? The plot in 803 was just as bad, but that story was created in a rush, so I'll forgive the writers. The original plot sounded far better, but there is no way they could have aired that now. There were quite a few wonderful plots in season 7 with Chandler and Monica where Monica was just as lovely as she was in 801. My favourite is 706 TOW The Nap Partners, where Monica feared that she would lose Chandler if she gained weight again. She was also very much like the old Monica in 709 TOW All The Candy, even though she was a bit neurotic. All in all, the Monica we saw in season 7 was very different from the Monica we all feared in season 6.

I've heard people talk about this reaction after 802 aired, but it doesn't make much sense to me. I've never been married myself, so I can't speak from my own experience, but I would think that if newlywed women go through a reaction like this, it wouldn't happen the day *after* they tied the knot. It seems to me that such a reaction would come a couple of days later when they don't have so much to look forward to. Wouldn't it be more logical if Monica got depressed after she came home from her honeymoon? Having said all that, Monica forgave Chandler for kissing another woman, and that showed that she wasn't "all bad."

It can happen then, too! But Monica might wake up the day after the wedding and all of her wedding-build-up has just vanished. Something that's been a huge part of her life has just gone - and although it probably does sound really bad, it isn't meant the way it sounds. She isn't belittling her marriage, she's just missing all the planning and looking forward to that one day. And now it's just back to normal life again. It gets mundane again quickly!

She's lovely really! Though maybe she would have been lovelier if she'd said what she did to Rachel or Phoebe rather than Chandler...

I'm really excited about 804, and I hope the writing improves for everybody but Rachel. She's amazing these days, but I don't want the other characters to deteriorate.

Yeah, the same thing has crossed my mind as well. If she keeps this up, she'll end up like Judy by February sweeps. I was watching 723 to 804 with some friends of mine last night, and it was like a totally different person showed up in 802. In 723-801 she was so kind and sweet, and then bam! - she is acting like a spoiled brat and hardly smiles at all.

Yeah, I know. I was waiting for the DVD box set this year, so I didn't get them until September. The DVDs were worth the wait, though.

Well, she was slightly better in 803 and 804, but she doesn't seem as happy as she was in season 7, if you know what I mean. After Chandler proposed to her, she seemed confident and happy, and now that she should be enjoying the fact that she is finally married, she is glaring at her husband. It doesn't make sense.

I know that yellow roses mean friendship, but I don't know much about the other ones. What about lily of the valley?

Yellow roses do mean that, and they also mean "jealousy", "love is waning" and "let us forget". So probably not the best decision CCA ever made when she chose yellow roses for her hair on her wedding day! Lily-of-the-valley is "Perfect purity" and "return of happiness" - isn't that nice?

I've been doing it since TOW The Proposal. Somehow I missed the episode when it was on TV so I read the transcript, and it was actually better than the filmed version!

I'm not so sure she would do that. In the original 803 plot, Chandler tells her that marriage involves a lot of compromise. And Monica says she's made a compromise..she's Mrs.Bing. Glad they didn't keep this little 'joke'. Do the writers really think Monica putting down Chandler or her marriage is funny???

Tennant was very happy with Monica in 801, I didnt want to say anything to spoil him. She really was sweet and caring in 801 (even with chandler) and then this new Monica pops up in the next episode. :(

She revealed Monica's secret to Chandler, and it was obvious that she did it out of spite. In the extended version of the episode on the DVD, however, she isn't that bad since she apologizes to Monica.

The strange thing is that the people who have said that they really like Monica this season are the ones who admit that they like her the least. Monica-fans, OTOH, can't stand her.

I think the writers have this idea that at least one of the Geller siblings has to be crazy and neurotic in order to make the show funny. Well, that is not the case. Ross improved a lot last season (not enough, though, IMO), and Monica was great, and I'm pretty sure that the fans who watched season 7 were struck by this.

Yeah, that was in 608 TOW Ross's Teeth, and she was, as you say, quite lovely in that episode. I also liked her in 615/616 TO That Could Have Been (I guess the fantasy made her nice again after her outburst to Chandler in 614), as well as 622-625.

Hopefully, she'll be better tomorrow in 804. Judging by the previews on NBC, Rachel and Ross are in focus(for obvious reasons), but I hope that Monica can return to her old lovely season 7 self asap. I don't like her this way. :(
