TOW The Cheap Wedding Dress

An average episode tonight, compared with the spectacular 716. Neither of tonight's two plots were standouts.

Monica's Dress: Another pre-wedding story, and yet another wedding dress plot. At least Monica was planning with the girls like she should be, rather than Chandler. I thought the whole scene at the dress store was too surreal. Monica came very close to being screechy again. And I was quite disturbed she physically attacked the woman over the dress. Also, Phoebe and Rachel were wasted in this episode, since Monica dominated most of the story. (What else is new?)

Ross and Joey: This was the typical "two people fight over someone" storyline that has been used on every sitcom. We've already seen it many times before (Chandler, Joey and the Dutch girl in Season 3; Phoebe, Rachel and the cell phone only two episodes ago; etc.). So, it was really hard to get into this story. But on a good note, I did enjoy the many aspects of continuity mentioned (Joey being on a poster, Ross owning a monkey, Joey playing a woman on DOOL, etc.).

Overall, tonight was a slight disappointment, especially since this episode was originally supposed to air during sweeps last month. Hopefully, the show picks up again as the season's end approaches.

Well I thought the opposite. I loved this episode. Phoebe yelling "What should I do?" after hearing the competing whistles was great.

And about the woman, I think she actually threatend Monica first. I was thinking logically, hey Mon has the hanger part of the dress, she should get to keep it. :) It made for funny television to see the woman pinned to the ground. It's not like she kicked her ass or anything.

I also thought it showed a side of Monica that most people have been complaining about. She made a sacrifice for Chandler by giving up her dream dress. So much is said about Chandler giving in to everything that she wants, but this season she's shown she's willing to compromise. I liked that.

I liked the Joey & Ross storyline as well, just because it made me laugh. Yeah it's been done before, but who cares? The part where they were arguing in front of the girl was hilarious. I think Joey should have let Ross have her, although he really hasn't had a girlfriend in a while either...

The end tag was pretty funny as well.

The one thing I would make a minor complaint about is that Phoebe and Rachel weren't in it much after the dress shop scene. Phoebe was in my opinion as funny as she's been in a long time.

I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

About the wedding dress, it reminded me of the annual wedding dress sale at Filene's Basement in Boston, MA. They have probably thousands of wedding dresses, and all cost about $175. Including the designer dresses that originally go for $3,000.

Apparently, it's usual for the bride to show up with all her bridesmaids, mother, female friends, etc. At 8:00 a.m., the doors open and everyone dashes in. Then, each person just starts grabbing dresses, with no regard to size or style. After each person has 8-10 dresses, the group gets together to try on the dresses (in the aisles, since the store has no dressing rooms) and trade the others for dresses that other women are hoarding.

They show this on TV in Boston every year. I've always wanted to go, just to watch. I have a feeling I'd end up like Rachel, trying to get away from the crowds.

I thought this episode was one of the funniest this season. There were a few scenes that cracked me up. Watching Phoebe confused about the whistle and which way to go was hilarious and I loved Rachel's "these bargain shoppers are crazy!" line. Loooved the scene where Chandler realizes that Joey and Ross are dating the same girl. His tone of voice, his expressions- priceless! My favorite? C: "What did you say her name was?" Both: "Kristin Lay." C: "Bye!"

I also thought that the scene with Ross/Joey/Kristin at the restaurant was hilarious. "Have you ever locked yourself in a TV cabinet, VD boy?" "MONKEY LOVER!"

Pretty funny episode with some great scenes. Is next week's a new one?

BTW, did anyone else think that Monica's dress was absolutely beautiful?

Yes, but I'm glad that she gave it up so that we'll all be surprised at the wedding with which dress she decided with.

Also, did anyone notice Matthew's behavior last night? I thought he acted extremely wired. Although I did hear this eppy was the last one before christmas break, and probably had a little eggnog during breaks. Doesn't surprise me now after what happened a few weeks ago.

Looking forward to seeing him back on his feet again.

I thought this episode was good, better than the last - and it looks like the writing is finally on the upswing - just in time for the final episodes of the season.

Hope this continues.

I have to say that this episode was on average to me. The two storylines were funny but both weren't all that clever.

Monica/Rachel/Phoebe/Chandler Wedding Dress storyline: I found Monica's wedding dress story to be the funniest part of the episode. The funniest part of this scenario was when Monica pinned down the woman for the dress. And the whole whistle thing got me going..typical Monica. I thought that there wasn't enough of Rachel compared to her funny and good performance in the previous episode. I did some how find Phoebe to be the second funniest character in this scenario after Monica. She really got me laughing when she didn't know what to do when both Monica and Rachel were blowing their whistles. Rachel was a bit funny when she was pushed down out of the crowd when the store was opening and with Phoebe's series yet funny quote "Come On Rachel!" I don't know about Chandler in this story because he really didn't play a big involvement till the end of the episode. I mean I think it was nice of Monica to give up the wedding dress for her husband's favorite band.. Again, this shows that Monica isn't too selfish. I would like to see Chandler give up something for his wife before they get married. I thought the part where the girls were crying over the dress to be the second highlight of the story following Monica's pinning down the woman at the wedding store.

Joey/Ross/Kristin: I found this to be the some-what repeated storyline throughout all sitcoms, and found it close to coming across the joke in TOW Two Parts, Part 2 where Monica and Rachel were making fun of eachother while Monica was trying to be Rachel and Vica Versa. But in this episode (717), it was clever considering the continuity was good and exact. I remember reading the spoiler reminding me that this storyline seemed to be too Saved-By-the Bellish but humor was thrown into it instead of both Joey and Ross duking it out, which would be too serious for the show. To me I think that Joey should of been the one to be with Kristin considering he doesn't use bad pickup lines such as Ross's sewer line. But I felt that this story was left undecided, considering Kristin lives close to Joey. She should come up again I think in a later episode.

Tag: I thought this was an all right part of the episode. The face cream was funny but not for the full 40 second extent.

To be reasonable, I give this episode a 7.5. Mainly because the J&R storyline wasn't that original. Overall there wasn't anything that was outstanding.
