I know the producers KNOW that FRIENDS FANS will get really pissed if they didn't end the show with Rachel and Ross together...They started the very first show with Ross wishing to be with Rachel...they must be together.
You know they will...four more episodes to do it :(

I have a feeling that they will be apart at the end. It seems like Rachel really needs to "find herself" and from what i've heard, that may just happen via a trip/relocation of sorts. But we will see - the final episode was taped Friday with an invitation only crowd able to view segments of the final... over half of it was taped behind close doors with no audience...(I hate canned laugher!!)

I would normally agree with you that I hate canned laughter and while Friends is taped with a live audience, they tape each scene three times and with editing magic, they are able to make the jokes run smoothly without the audience laughing over the actors' next funny line. At the actual taping, you can see that the audience reacts with too much laughter compared to the final product and in the early episodes you can see where the editors were either lazier or less experienced than today and you can see where the actors have to wait for the laughter to die down enought to deliver the next line. In one notable example Friends - 114 - The one with The Candy Hearts, you can see where Joey actually gets irritated when the audience is laughing in a way that seems to cut into his comic-timing.
Now, the editors have complete control of the laughter type and timing. So all the laughter is now canned, but it is sampled from Friends' audience laughter at least. I got this information from the editors and producers themselves in the documentary-style 'Friends - behind the scenes2' usually available from Kazaa. I have it if you want it. It's 138,246KB

My guess is the last half or so of the final episode will have more silence and tears than laughter, ergo eliminating the need for "canned laughter." JMHO.
You may be right but lately the episodes when Ross and Rachel were together have been playing, which I haven't seen for a while, and watching those as well as the ones where they are getting together are so sweet and they seem so meant for each other. I don't like the ones where they break up but even after that they seem to still be in love with each other. Maybe for us hopeless romantics, they will end up together, "finding themselves" together or something. Every new ep I keep looking for something to indicate which way it will go and search the web for a clue as well. I just hate that those from the UK who don't want to know will undoubtedly read the happy or sad news before seeing it.

i have a very uneasy feeling about the final episode. with the madonna kiss and the janet jackson exposure i just feel that the writers may want to create the biggest and most talked about event ever. look for the writers to not only push the envelope, but to makbe even to rip the envelope apart.
