Just to let you guys know, I went to NBC's Media Village web-site and went to the storyline section and I saw that, of course do the the devastating tragedy, NBC has moved the Friends Season 8 Premiere to September 27th. Next week, September 20th they are showing the Season 7 Finale, and this Thursday (the 13th) there will be no showing of Friends.

Matt

I was wondering how they were going to handle this situation, especially since...(please scroll down for spoiler space)

Episode 803 has Chandler joke about bombs and explosives at an airport, not to mention the line at the end when Monica tells Joey that she wants him to watch the building blow up instead of breaking into her apartment. I honestly don't know how they can handle this situation because even by the time this episode gets around to airing, it's still going to have an impact. Either they will have to reshoot certain scenes or something...I mean, an episode this important that reveals the father of Rachel's baby can't very well just air at a later date, much like the Buffy episode "Earshot" did. If anyone remembers, it was supposed to air in April or May and it was postponed until September. Does anyone have any ideas?

"You tell me your name, I'll tell you mine"

important? anyone who shares this sentiment makes me ill. so upset because your stupid television show will be delayed. in the great scheme of things, this one is so far down the list as to be laughable.

i know it's been said before, but i think it will bear repeating as many times as it takes before it sinks in: get a life.

I don't think anyone here is complaining about the episodes being postponed or modified. I think it is more of a discussion about what is going to be happening this season. I believe that is what this forum is for! If you don't like discussing Friends and topics relating to the series then I don't see why you are reading this forum. Tuesday was a devastating day. Hollywood is delaying movies, pulling trailers, and talking about editing films. Three new TV shows starting this season have plots based on Terrorists and/or bombs and government agencies. There are talks about what is going to happen with those as well. When something like this happens, the entire nation is affected and I don't think that anyone here would even think about putting the premiere of Friends in front of this tragedy.

According to www.nbc.com, tomorrow night (Thursday, 9/13/01) is regularly scheduled programming, and given that, I don't see why they would postpone the season premiere. Now, that might change, but that's what it said tonight (9/12/01).

I don't think the poster was complaining, though I think her excitement at how the disaster affects the show may have gotten the best of her. I don't see anybody here complaining about the postponement. They are merely reporting Friends-related news; the show will be postponed. They are making a clear-headed assessment; 803 has GOT to be rewritten. It is now in absolutely terrible taste. The other observation is that the episode as a whole is a lynchpin of next year's primary story arc, so there is curiosity as to how the producers will handle this touchy situation. It probably won't work to just delete the episode as is. I personally suspect the writers will write a second storyline for Monica and Chandler and have just those two actors come in to fix it.

That's just curious discussion as to how production of a TV show is going to be sensitized and affected by the horrific events of the day. There is no question about the relative importance of real life tragedy and fictional hijinks. Perhaps the title of the thread was a bit overemotional.

I DID see a board where a couple of very childish people were grousing about how the 803 storyline should air as is because it might be funny, and who cares, censorship sucks, blah blah blah prattle prattle. Now THAT was beginning to get really offensive. I will not be angry at anybody who understands that that pulling the storyline is essential for fundamental human decency.

My question is: Why was this considered to be a funny storyline in the first place, crisis or no crisis? --- James Squire - http://members.aol.com/jamess1889

* * * * * * * * * * to have pointed out that the airports take this bomb thing too seriously...kinda like a high school detention story. But, clearly, there is reason for their seriousness.

"It's true! It's true!"--Kurt Angle, the *other* Real American Hero Life sucks, but you *can* do something about it.

I am stating this because to make a note to people that the show will be moved and it won't be a surprise to people if they don't see it next week. I know that this incident is VERY VERY devastating. My cousin works a place close to the Twin Towers and for a minute there our whole family was scared for him, but luckily he is safe.

PLEASE don't under estimate me like that! Making an important note is not wrong and I thought this was the place to tell people since it is about Friends.

Matt

I am sorry but I didn't mean it in that way at all about the Premiere being postponed.

My cousin's husband is of Middle Eastern decent and right now he is scared as hell right now as well as the rest of my family is for him. He hasn't left his house and he is scared for his kids too.

I know this was a MORE important incident than friends premiere being postponed.

Matt

I can only assume that since you quoted my post that you were reffering to me. If not then please take what i say with a grain of salt then, but HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF BEING MORE UPSET WITH A POSTPONEMENT OF FRIENDS THAN THE INCIDENT ITSELF. New York has been my home my entire life. I was in tears when the buildings collapsed. Now if the purpose of this newsgroup is to talk about Friends, then i don't think i was hurting anyone by responding to someone else's news. I was merely inquiring about certain news. I understand everyone is pretty shaken up about this, as well as I am. Not only is my friends brother a firemen with two small kids at home, but I have other friends and family who are deeply being affected by this. I don't think you should judge my intentions. Or as one person put it, "got too excited". God forbid someone should post about Friends in a Friends newsgroup. That would be a horrible crime now wouldn't it? Not to mention the fact that everyone else is posting about Friends information. The initial subject of this post stated that Friends was being postponed, along with the other shows, films and trailers. I responded to that. If that is such a bad thing, then what the hell were you doing even opening the post for reading? If you have such a damn problem with people posting Friends news, maybe you should reset your preferences to block all Friends post, so you can just read the WTC posts. I understand that as much as other people tell you that you need to move on and get over this tragedy, you can't. I've been hearing that all over. My response to that is "screw you". How can you get over such a horrible ordeal, especially when other buildings are in danger of collapsing. However, that STILL does not give you the right to blast my post and tell me i need to get a life just because you aren't in agreement. How dare you. Why don't you get the firecracker out of your ass and aim it at the people responsible for this. Like everyone else, i want to find the person responsible and get them back for ruining my city. I guess next i'm gonna hear you say that it's not just "my city". This city has been a huge part of my life for decades. And now that part that made the skyline beautiful is not there anymore. So, i suggest you direct that anger someplace else, because you're way off base. I do agree with one thing that you said, however, anyone who plays this as some sick joke needs to get a life. This was exactly my thinking when my friend told me that pieces of debris was being auctioned off on ebay. My exact action was to call ebay and tell them to take it down. Minutes later, they did. So, if you have so much bottled up anger about this whole thing, find more contructive ways to direct it. But don't you dare aim it at me. I'm just as upset as everyone else is.

Let's try and remember that i wasn't the person who created that subject title and put the word "IMPORTANT" in it. So if someone is looking for someone to direct the blame to, i think that person should get their facts checked. Is that too much to ask? Apparantly so.

I agree with GaleNSid... her question was a valid one and should not have been met with such hostility. This is a Friends message board and her post was about Friends. The WTC/Pentagon tragedies are terrible and we are all upset. I have 2 missing people in my life right now, but you don't see me attacking anyone for talking about something other than the tragedies. I understand your grief, but know that we are all feeling it.
