Just not that great an episode...10/31

SPOILERS.....

First off, when did the people of Tulsa become chronic smokers? Every single person in the meeting smoked?? And then Chandler said he smoked two or three cartons in two days??? Wouldn't he just get incredibly sick from that kind of over indulgence? And I very much understand Rachel not wanting to be away from the baby, but I don't understand Ross basically treating her like she was some crazed mother, surely if anyone would understand about being away from a child for the first time, it should be Ross, since he already has a kid. Though the best part of the episode was Ross' moms story about when he was little. That was funny. As for Phoebe's dinner, is Monica really that selfish? Maybe I'm wrong, but don't women ovulate for more than an hour? Could they not have gone to the dinner and then tried for a baby afterward? And my God, Chandler looks awful, when they showed him in bed with her, it was kind of gross, though they both kind of looked bad really. Though this might be a note for the producer's, it probably is time for new opening credits, so you don't start the show seeing how much better the cast looked back when the show started as compared to how they look now. (That mainly concerns Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, and Lisa Kudrow) Just in general, not that memorable or funny an episode.

I disagree about how Courteney and Lisa look, especially Courteney. For a woman on the threshold of 40, she looks great! Oh heck, she looks better than most women at 25, with the exception of the pair of women who sat in the row in front of me during the Twins post season. Mmm mm mmmmmm. I almost lost track of the game--they were that stunning.

I thought 905 was hilarious. And more memorable than half the crap in season eight.

And I disagree about Courteney, Lisa AND Matthew. Courteney's beautiful, Lisa looked great last night (loved her dress) and Matthew Perry? He needs to start using sunscreen, but there's something about that boy. He's just SO cute sometimes. Like every episode this season. ;) I'd take him over Schwimmer and LeBlanc, any day.

Loved the story...hate how pathetic they are making Ross in every episode. I agree that the part about Rachel being an "obsessive mother" really turned me off. However, Ross wouldn't necessarily know those emotions, because he was the "absent parent" in Ben's life. Meaning only he did not live in the home the child lived in. I'm not talking about how much or little attention he gives Ben during visitation.

Personally this use to drive me crazy, when my son was less than 2 years old, people would make all kinds of snide comments about my not believing in un-necessary separations. It seems very harsh when people label you "obsessive" because you have different parenting methods than they have. Of course these same parents and teachers gush over how confident and verbally advanced and well behaved my son is now, 5 years later.

Yes, I couldn't believe he was so insensitive. Rachel finally has something she truly, truly, loves - something that clearly takes first place in her life. And she worries. Very natural for a new Mom. Get off her case, Ross!

And it's not just Monica. Every single one of the six was selfish that night except Joey. Phoebe had every right in the world to be furious at them for making them wait so long. Some friends! And then, she turns around and shows them how it feels by leaving. (I'm sure she was thinking it served them right. Only Joey got caught in it when he didn't neglect her.)

I liked the Phoebe and Joey parts - they were cute, trying to hold down that big table. The rest wasn't very good at all.

I thought Ross was trying to be sensitive about Rachel's worries until she started yelling at Judy in the restaurant. Then he said she was being obsessive. And didn't her worrying and Judy being stuck in traffic really cause them to be late to dinner (not being locked out because they had to wait for Judy anyway)? I don't think that was being selfish 'except' when they didn't call. Phoebe may have had a reason to be upset there.

Phoebe had a little more reason to be upset at M&C since they seemed to be more preoccupied with their squabbling then with Phoebe. And I don't know why they couldn't have gone to dinner first before having sex. It would have been only 2 or 3 hours difference, anyway.

I'll have to pay more attention to the details next time I watch this episode but this is how I remember them.

Haven't heard that one before. :) I would think that at this point M&C would be happy with either.

I have to disagree. Rachel was frantic when they were locked out in the hallway. When they finally got back in, she raced to the baby to be sure she was okay, and professed over and over and she was NEVER going to leave Emma again. Ross' next word was, "so, you ready to go?" Wasn't he even *listening*?

I agree, they could have at least phoned. I mean, we're not talking about fifteen or twenty minutes here, but well over an hour.

Actually, the only time I've seen "love" for Emma from Rachel was the birth episode. I see her being motherly and doing motherly things and being worried but I just dont sense love for some reason.

Ross and Rachel's plot was not only believable, but it was really funny as well. Granted, Rachel has changed quite a bit since she became a mom, but that's only natural.

Phoebe and Joey's story was the smallest of all the storylines, but it tied all the stories together in a great way in the end.

Monica and Chandler were definitely the funniest characters in the entire episode. Their fight was hilarious, and they had so many good one-liners. ("Manipulative shrew...," "smoked duck," "sex with a Kennedy.")

This episode only proved that the show is at its best when there's some sort of conflict involved, and all the characters are together. Hopefully, they'll keep making the episodes this good and not fall back to the horrible level of quality they had in 904 TOW the Sharks.

And congrats to David for directing such a great episode!

I hate ranking epsiodes, because most of the time there're one or two plots that are really enjoyable, but another one sucks. We've had not so good episodes with few great jokes in them while some good episodes had merely any. I think we're seeing the return of comedy's preference after the drama season 8. People don't like that. I don't give a damn about those as Friends is supposed to be a sit*com*.

IMO they overdid it a little with bringing Ms. Geller to the restaurant.

If someone wants to have an(other) arguement with Tennant, (s)he should write an essay about Joey kissing Phoebe being forshadowing. I liked the waiter-speak bashing.

Actually I liked the part of the episode better, where they were seperated into couples.

904 wasn't sooo bad, IMHO.

Seconded. Most shows he directed were good or very good and somehow my two favorite Ross scenes were directed by DS: The eagle story last ep and when he was faced with Dr. Green and Mona. (Well, could be the fresh memory, though.)

When the <Friends> writers thought it would be funny. They were wrong on both counts. May be just the typical coastal view of the center of the US as a place where everything horrible resides, I dunno.

It would seem that just about everyone on this episode acted poorly (their conduct, not the actors' abilities).

I'll remember it -- as one of the worst episodes in recent times, if not throughout the whole series.

I just think most of the episode sucked. Except for the story about Ross sticking his willie in between his legs. That was too adorable. But everything else was just...everyone being nasty and uptight. I laughed a few times, but it was by far one of the worst episodes yet.
