LeBlanc's latest comments on the Triangle.

For those who want to know what the status is on the Love Triangle, TVGUIDE.com has an interview with Matt that seems to settle the question. Among Matt's comments:

"Speaking of love, what the hell happened to Joey's passion for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston)? After she broke off their "engagement," we barely even saw him register disappointment. "I think that's okay," LeBlanc reasons. "We touch on it here and there, but it needed some air to breathe. They've written me and Jennifer a little more apart. And Ross and Joey's relationship is still intact."

Translation: Friends is shying away from pitting Ross and Joey against each other as rivals for Rachel. This is a sitcom, after all, not a soap opera. "It needs to stay hysterical," LeBlanc stresses. "The show needs to always, always, always be f---in' funny. The Joey character is a big, huge funny. I don't know if we want to take that away.

"Let Joey heal," he adds. "Let him be okay. Let him come back, having grown. His emotions from here on in have to be dealt with in a funny way. He has to go there... and then pull back."

This isn't news, he's publicly stated he has been against the storyline since day one.

Funny thing is, he continues to say the entire cast was against the storyline, but you have never read one negative comment from all the other cast members about the storyline. You don't see Jennifer or David coming out in recent interviews saying Ross and Rachel should be married; they probably ultimately don't care that much about what their characters end up doing since they are already planning their future careers. Matt's more focused on how his character is perceived because he knows that this is probably going to be his only future role after Friends, playing Joey in a spinoff.

I think it shows just how out of touch Matt is with regards to how this storyline was received. He continued to seem shocked that he got an Emmy nod for the storyline, (and really, he should have won it), and he thinks he knows what's good for Joey more than anyone else, and that is to be the backup guy who comes in with the punchline. But was he more popularly received ever in the show's history than he was in the 8th season?

I don't think him contemplating a spinoff when he clearly can't carry a show by himself, and publicly disliking a popular storyline about his character are exactly the smartest career moves, but that's just my opinion.

Oh, Andre, it's OK. He made that bet with me, and technically it ended in a tie; neither of us HAD to write the essay. If I'd had the sense God gave a turtle I would have realized it would do me no good at all to attempt to pay it off. Campion told me I shouldn't and I should have listened to him.

It's not ok for me though. He went on everybody's nerves with his constant ranting about how J&R would lead to at least 40 million viewers each week and only shut up after this bet. Yet he chose to disappear before the question who was right and who wasn't could be solved. I remember you and some others got quite upset with disappearing so sudden and not paying his debt and I defended him saying there might be a reason for him disappearing, if only it was for a broke computer. Now it's blatantly obvious he's been here under another name for a few months and probably been lurking all the time.
