I just read a news item that negotiations are under way to do a spin-off from Friends about Matt LeBlanc's character, Joey. That'd be cool. I definitely think he could carry a show of his own.

I agree, and I am a total MLB/Joey fan. I'm concerned that they're going to write S10 to kick off the spinoff rather than to go with closure-oriented storylines.

Only aspiring actresses do that, established actresses don't as they already have a profile, and as you pointed out JA has already had some respectable reviews, and in hollywood land you are judged how well your last movie did.
How can you make a stupid assumption like that? You don't know CCA or any of the other cast members personally, so you can't say something like that with any sort of conviction. In many interviews with the 6 cast members, they have ALL commented that they have developed a deep friendship with each other that will always be there even when the show ends. Do you really believe they would attend each others weddings (IRL) if they didn't have genuine feelings of friendship for one another? I'm watching an E! show right now featuring the cast members off the set and the three girls are going to lunch together and MP and CCA are out to dinner together. It's hard to not get close to your co-workers when you see the everyday. That doesn't mean you will not find new friends when you start a job somewhere else.
You would feel obligated to attend a wedding you were invited to for a co-worker... although I'm sure they all wanted to attend anyway. That does not mean their friendship will endure forever... do you still keep in touch with every friend you had in high school and college?? I'm sure you attended some weddings in college and may not be close with those people now.
I don't *think* anyone said they weren't friends in real life right now (but I'm having trouble following this thread cuz of the top posts, so I might have just missed it). It's just that it's hard to keep in touch people you hardly see, which may happen with the cast. And the original comment referred to not wanting to be attached to the character on the show. That does not mean that the actors do not want to be associated with one another.

If you mean the characters, Norm did not visit Frasier; Frasier visited Norm (as well as Carla and Cliff) in Boston. But yes, all the surviving starring actors have appeared on Frasier with the exception of Kirstie Alley.

Bottom line it will come down to the developement of other charecters and to the overall writting wheather the show is a hit or a failure. The two ex-producers mentioned in the article have already proven themselves to be up to the task. So lets wait and see.

I think that if the show is going to succeed then it needs to concentrate on 2 points and make sure they get them right:
1. They cast some strong supporting characters This is very important. the most obvious example is Frasier which when it spun off from Cheers created two very strong characters in Niles and Martin which allowed Frasier to play off and thus made it very watchable.
2. Most of the plot lines should be about the characters and not endless stories about Joey's acting career. This is important because the way Friends worked was by showing pretty small stories that didn't mean much(most of the time) and letting the characters create the interest and the jokes. Also, you can't have EVERY story completely focused on Joey a la (again) Frasier.
I think this show can be good if handled well(yet again I'll say how important it is to take their cue from Frasier) and it is encouraging to see Kevin Bright, Scott Silveri and Shana Goldberg-Meehan involved. Also, what about co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane? will they be consulting producers or involved in any way?
