Man, we do have short-term memories, don't we? Didn't Rachel "dump" Ross in TOW The List before hooking up with him in sweeps? I would expect the same to happen here in May sweeps, it gives 5 or 6 whole episodes for Rachel to develop feelings herself.

You know what the sad part is? You, and likely most other R&R fans are so oblivious to what is going on that you are actually going to be *shocked* if a Joey and Rachel pairing happen in May sweeps.

And then we'll probably hear more complaints of how this came out of the blue, ratings stunt, blah, blah, blah... ;)

However, there is still the rest of this year and all of next year to fill with stories. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Rachel and Joey had a fling around the change-of-seasons, so to speak. It would add drama to what I expect will be the gradual, sincere and -- at last -- permanent reunion between Ross and Rachel next year, as they share their lives with their baby throughout Season 9.

Who Rachel has a fling with now, at the end of Season 8, doesn't matter in the long run. It's who she ends up with 15 months from now that counts, and I suspect that's going to be Ross.

Ok, people need to seriously understand what the term "fling" connotates. It is usually a very, very brief period of two people being together, and usually only involves sex without love. Rachel is in her 30's with a baby for God sakes, she is not going to shack up with Joey like she did with Paolo. Paolo was a fling.

But it DOES matter if Rachel is with Joey now for in the future, just like Ross's relationship with Rachel in the past is affecting Joey now. There is always going to be the stench of Ross hanging over Joey and Rachel if they ever have a relationship, there is even going to be a constant reminder of that with the baby. If those two were to ever cross the line of friendship, you'd have a hard time convincing me that Joey would ever be happy if he saw Ross and Rachel walk down the aisle.

In TOW the List, Rachel began the episode in love with Ross and then rejected him because she was angry at him. She still loved him, we saw in TOW Russ, but she tried to bury it. Their reconciliation came after forgiveness. In TOW Joey Tells Rachel, Rachel rejects Joey because she has no feelings for him at all. There is nothing to forgive or fix. This doesn't mean that R&J won't happen - season nine creates a wild card - but the analogy does not quite fit.

And we don't know HOW Rachel rejects Joey, but from what I read about it, it darn sure looks like she loves him even though she doesn't feel that way about him as of yet.
