Something new to talk about

I found this article some time ago. I'm sorry if it is a few months old. I just wanted to share it with you all. The article was on our favorite female TV characters and their dating habits. Maybe it will give us something new to talk about instead of the pay raise or how disappointing the finale was. I will say that this person who originally wrote the article must not watch FRIENDS at all... is they did it was not a lot.

Monica (FRIENDS) The Stick- In -The -Mud

Although she can run a restaurant with four star efficiency, this Friend's reluctance to look outside her circle of familiar faces means her dating life is incestuous and full of chaos. She had an affair with her father's best friend, then with the son of her father's best friend, and now with Chandler, her own best friend.

Her TV dating tactic: "While Monica's domestic habits are obsessive, her dating style is easy going", says Robin Gorman Newman, author of "How to Meet a Mensch in New York". And though the potential of marriage is certainly the backdrop to any date, Monica doesn't kid herself about what's important: She knows she needn't cling to Mr. Wrong just because he's Mr. There.

Although she yearns for long-term love, Monica is hesitant to stray from familiar ground-- even for the right guy. Constant conversational shorthand and remember-the-time-when anecdotes with her friends keep Monica from broadening her horizons-- and finding new honeys in the process. She complains about being single, but she sinks back into the same couch (or the same bed) with the same cappuccino and the same pals. The payoff?? Nothing ventured, nothing lost--- or gained.

Relationship-strategy rewrite: "Impossible as it sounds, she needs to spend less time steeping at Central Perk with her friends", insists Newman. "Monica shouldn't blow off her support system, but it shouldn't be her only source of socializing". She needs to start by doing new things: sports, volunteer work, classes. "If she applied the same level of organization and achievement to meeting a man that she does to keeping the living room clean, she'd have more luck finding true love". says Newman. (Plus, hello, she's a chef. Way to a man's heart.......)

Heh. Obviously not a Chandler and Monica fan, huh? I think Monica has found a rather wonderful match. (It's Chandler who I think is getting the raw deal.)

Actually, I think a lot of comments this poster has made could apply to many of the characters. Ross comes to mind. Rachel as well.

I think we have indication that Phoebe does a better job of communicating with a bigger group of people outside the six than Monica or Rachel does.

I am a Chandler and Monica fan. Also a Ross and Rachel fan. One thing I will point out is that when R&R was a couple, the show didn't just focus on them and not anyone else. There were other story lines going on as well. All that comes to mind at the moment is when Joey and Chandler got the new recliners.... before they were stolen.(can't think of the actual title of the episode) In that episode you saw R&R and also Monica and Richard...a well rounded mixture of people. But even though the C&M thing is nice....... it would have been nice to see Ross being his formal self, and Phoebe having something good happening in her life.

OMG! they call that a relationship? it was only one eppy! and it was barely even a date!! he came over for Thanksgiving. YUP! that's an affair alright. this person totally doesnt watch the show! i mean what about Pete? they were together for a while. he wasnt a best friend in anyway. (just really rich, hehe)

She had a date w/ Richard's son but I don't think they ever had sex. And I think before they started dating Rachel was her bestfriend,not Chandler.

It's not like she's Joey, Monica's not really openly flirtatious. And she's dated a lot of other guys besides the 3 they mentioned so it's not like she's unwilling to go out of her way to meet the right guy. And what's wrong with dating a friend? I just wonder why the writer decided to analyze her..maybe someone forgot to tell them it's only tv lol.
