Class of '91?
That can't be right, can it? At the beginning of the show, in 1994, Ross had been married for seven years. That means they would have been married since 1987, which means they got married Ross's freshmen year.
Was it a mistake?
Hmm... yes. I guess it's possible, but we would have to assume that Ross and Carol dated in college for no more than freshman year (and got engaged and married in that time period - of course, maybe that's an explanation for his relative lack of worrying about dating and marrying Emily so quickly, not to mention why Jack and Judy considered Emily and Ross's wedding a bigger disaster than Ross and Carol's wedding). But in The One With the Thanksgiving Flashbacks, Ross doesn't tell his parents many details about Carol until he gets home for Thanksgiving his sophomore year of college.

Not only that, but in the flashback scenes from Ross' and Chandler's college days in 1987 notice that Dar Kommissar by Falco is playing. That song came out in early 1983, so it would have been over four years old by 1987. Also, A Flock of Seagulls were also popular in the early 80s, and for a brief period, so I doubt that haircut was popular at that time.

There was alot of different eras of music being played. From 1977's Disco Inferno to 1979's Funky Town. The "Flock of Seagulls" hair style hung around all through the 80's -- not just during the time the band was popular. ~~~ Kathy

I know, they're fudging with their ages again. In season one, Monica turned 26 in April of 1995, making her birth date in April of 1969. Ross is, of course, her older brother, so he should have had a birthdate no later than 1968. However, if Chandler and Ross graduated when they were 22, as would be expected if they did so on time, this would shift them to 1969. Of course, Rachel's (and by implication Monica's) birthday was shifted to 1971 in TOW They All Turn 30 (season 7; Feb. 2001). Maybe they've decided to use the same time machine on the others.
It's not fair, since when the series began, I thought of Ross as being my age--and now he's two years younger. :(

Not only for the reasons already mentioned, but why are they having a 13th reunion party? I've worked in college fund raising and development for years and I've only seen reunions on the milestones that are multiples of 5 (5, 10, 15...). So I can't figure out why they chose '91. At this point there's no benefit in making them younger and it makes no sense. Why not class of '89, which would make perfect sense?

Not only is that not correct, Ross has a Dr.'s degree which takes in Most situations about 7 years to complete. There are a lot of 80's references. Anywho....;)

At that time Ross (I think) already had his Ph.D. Had he finished his undergrad in 1991 it would have been very tight for him to get a Ph.D. by that time as he would have finished graduate school in 1993 and would have had to finish his doctorate in one year. Most people take at least three years to obtain a Ph.D.

The quickest I've seen anyone finish is four years--and that's *after* already having earned a Master's degree (1-2 years for that). So with the revised timeline, Ross should have still been in grad school for at least the first four seasons of the show.
