Friends star Matthew Perry has sent shockwaves through Hollywood, following the revelation that he's fallen off the wagon. The troubled actor, who has long been on the road to sobriety, is back on the booze and pals are terrified he's heading for disaster, say sources. One friend tells American tabloid the Star, "It's sad to see Matt so bent on destroying himself. I can't believe he's drinking again when he worked so hard to cure his addiction. It's heartbreaking. Last year, his drinking nearly cost him his job, and here he is again willing to flush his career down the toilet." On July 18, shortly after 9pm, Perry, 32, and a pal showed up at the Tangier restaurant and nightclub in Los Angeles' posh Los Feliz section for an AIDS benefit. And, say revelers, he wasted no time downing one alcoholic drink after another. An eyewitness recalls, "Matthew and an older man headed straight to a Vip lounge in the back of the nightclub. They sat in a corner booth, and he ordered two bottles of Smirnoff Ice and he and his friend quickly downed the drinks. There was a concession stand on an outside deck serving up Red Bull energy drinks and when they were finished with the Smirnoff, Matt ordered two Red Bull 'n' vodkas." Perry spent 28 days at America's Hazelden Clinic in Minnesota in 1997. And in March 2001, he checked into the Promises rehab centre in Malibu, California, to battle an addiction to drugs and alcohol. He was also addicted to the painkiller Vicodin and the heroin substitute Methadone. According to eyewitnesses, Perry was also seen drunk on Oscars night in March and almost five months ago outside Hollywood's The Standard. The source adds, "Matt has a lot to lose.
