Rachel's glasses

In TOW Ross and Rachel ...you know, Rachel mentions not wanting to wear her glasses. Now I have never seen her wearing them and it isn't very likely that she wears contacts (TOW Joey's Big Break), so does she just wander around bumping into things all the time?

They're probably just reading glasses, or glasses that she only has to wear some of the time.

If you remember they were going to the movies......I have the same issue as she may have, I need to wear my glasses for seeing t he movie screen and for driving and things like that.

the movie had subtitles. i would need my glasses for that, because i'm farsighted... maybe she is too?

I'd say she is. I'm longsighted as well, and while I don't need my glasses all the time, I need them for schoolwork, reading, working at the computer etc.

Uh, no, I think she's near-sighted. She said she couldn't read the sub-titles in the movie she and Ross went to. Her vision is probably good enough that she only needs them for reading. Of course, we've seen her reading a few times without them.... maybe she's just uncomfortable wearing them.

Or maybe she has astigmatism, which would make things coming from light sources appear blurry.. This would explain why she would need glasses for reading subtitles on a movie screen (reflected light), reading street names while driving (back-lit street signs), but not for reading books.

Sounds like a very good theory. But maybe the writers just don't know what she is and her vision is another plot inconsistency.

The series premiere is when Rachel walked into Central Perk with her wedding dress, right after Ross said that all he wanted was to be married again...

AFAIK the pilot never had a title, or if it did, it was called "Friends Like These". Not "TOW Monica's New Roommate", but "TOW Monica Gets a New Roommate".

This is the most common title & IMHO the best. It is used in most books, the prestigious episode guide site epguides.com, and the highly respected movie & TV database the IMDb.

Guineapig's transcript on thescfsi.com hedges its bets somewhat with the title "TOW Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)".

TV listings magazines usually omit the title altogether, or casually refer to the episode as being a pilot in their synopsis.

A number of other episode titles have small variations, and the title of episode 503 "TOW the Triplets" is given on some tapes as "TO Hundredth".

Er... she could just be a naughty short-sighted person like me... doesn't wear her glasses when she should (because she doesn't like them), but does when she *wants* to i.e. for subtitles at the cinema. I go round in a bit of a blur most of the time, especially since I lost 80% of vision in my left eye, but - well, ask Jim or Al - do I wear my glasses when I meet people? Do I hell.

It might be wrong to drive without glasses, but it doesn't mean people don't do it, and I think Rachel might just be guilty!
