all I see nowadays is people calling Rachel mean names such as "bitch" and "princess" but why? Lately Rachel has been a little bit testy but I think it is just because of the pregnacy. I don't think that Rachel ever said or did anything to Ross that he didn't deserve. I believe that Ross made a lot of mistakes in their relationship and he should be also blammed for the tension in their relationship. I think Rachel was a little annoying but nothing she did was worthy of being called "bitch" I cannot understand why everyone hates Rachel. She is a perfectly nice person. All the friends have flaws because they are human and people just seem to over-dramatize Rachel's flaws and twist things around so she looks bad. They all have flaws and please don't come back with but" I thought that everyone hates Ross or Joey or blah, blah. What is so wrong with Rachel? That is all I am wondering.

Don't get me wrong, I like her too. But she can be bitchy. They all have good and bad traits. Playing up the bad traits are often the source of humor. I think they've overdone her bitchiness though, but my point is that it has come out a lot lately because she is uncomfortable from being pregnant.

Not every pregnant woman acts bitchy. Rachel's just using the pregnancy as an excuse to bark at Ross. She's done so many times in the past when she wasn't pregnant. There's a major difference between Phoebe's bitchiness due to her pregnancy and Rachel's. Phoebe can be a bitch at times but the difference because of her pregnancy was clear. I didn't see a different Rachel here, she's the same old Rachel. Strangely Rachel is only this bitchy with Ross. She's quite pleasant with the others most of the time. And I don't hate Rachel. Here, Caitron, I'll give the character what she is due: Rachel is the funniest and most consistently effective of the three female characters, and possibly of the whole bunch. She has a particular luxury that the others don't have; when the others do mean things - and, except possibly for Joey, they all do - the audience recoils. There are times when Rachel has been upset with Ross for good reason. She had reason to break up with him. There are other times - the season three finale come to mind - where she has been deliberately destructive, possessive and cruel. Rachel is not always cruel and hateful anymore than Ross is always crazy, but there are times when they choose to do this that suggest a writer's crutch. It also confuses me that Ross' bad behavior is generally regarded as something to be punished while Rachel gets away with murder.
Both can, at times, be charming to suit the writer's whims. But this stuff from Rachel is by no means new or limited to pregnancy. She's always treated him like this, both when he deserved it and when he didn't.

I think the writers were trying to communicate that he didn't care how much he got in her way at work because he didn't take her work seriously. I think you have a point; there were better ways of dealing with Ross coming in than what Rachel did. Also, since it has since been made clear that she does not respect HIS work (and indeed, once was running very late for his big honorary speech on Awards Night) it's hard for me to sympathize with her as much as I might otherwise. When I consider "Well, how would I have felt in Rachel's position" I'm afraid I would have answered, "Very touched by the gesture." Unless, of course, my husband set the office on fire. That might have an effect on somebody's humor.

Remember when she purposely bolded Ross girlfriend-what's her name- to get Ross to dump her? She does not very nice things to gain something at the end.
She put Ross down on number of occasions, like when she was alone and naked in apartment and Ross came over thinking she's doing it to entice him.
When Joey messed up things with her boss, she let boss believe the wrong thing, and gained stuff from it.
As for being a princess, she always needs someone to help her, and manages to talk them into it, behaving all helpless (manipulation). I suppose it's coming from the past where her dad took care of everything, so she is not used to worrying much, and has learn she can get anything with a smile, a tear, and pretty please.

Rachel's a great character played super-well. But I think she does often come across as someone who is used to getting away with more than she should because she is so preposterously beautiful. Monica, also gorgeous, doesn't come across that way, maybe because she was not always gorgeous. Phoebe too is very good-looking but doesn't have that sense of entitlement about her.

And those are only the most extreme examples. Every time the latest "Miss-what's-her-name" is out of the picture, Rachel loses interest.
She has shown over the years that she really can't stand it when Ross gets really serious about someone who isn't Rachel. Emily was perhaps the one exception to this, since although Rachel's emotions sabotaged her good will, Ross' did too and the fact remains that Ross wanted her there.
She has grown, but a bit, but the selfish bitch attitude is still there.
