I figured that we haven't had some real fun in this group since Perry's (she wishes...) balloon debate. Can you tell me which episode we are first introduced to Christina Pickles character. I want episode number and the name of the character.
It's competition time!!! Whohoow!!!!!
Episode 102, The One With The Sonogram at The End Christina Pickles is Judy Geller, Ross and Monica's mother.

Now wait a minute! she might have been playing with Ross, but this is what she genuinly believes! She didn't say any of that to get on Ross nerves on purpose, she just said it was something she didn't believe in. As the arguement went on, then she decided to mess with Ross. And it was Ross who brought it up all the time anyway, she just had fun so that she could get him off her back. What she said was what she believes.

I've got a question for you mister smarty pants. There are only three words that end in -gry in the english language One of them's Angry, and another is hungry. EvreyONE knows the other, everyONE knows what it means, everyONE says it everyday. I've already given you the answer, what's the third word? I know it'as not friends related but I got it in an email and its driving me mad!

Eek - I'm not a smarty pants, I just know the answer because I invented the question! <thinks> Well, I know of FOUR more words that end in -gry, but three of them are compounds of Angry & Hungry, and the other one is an Aggry, which is a variagated type of bead. But none of them is spoken every day. If it's driving you mad does that mean the email did not give you the answer? It's not like everyone says "it" every day, is it?

it is!
damn... okay then... the cost of stamps?
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:

Now that's very clever, since Phoebe talked about the cost of stamps in 521 "TOW the Ball", a year after she was pregnant. But that was a cost reduction, not a rise; and anyway (big clue here) how could you calculate a price difference to the exact cent from what was said?

I'll just butt in here cos I've heard this riddle before - I think the answer's probably 'language', as in the third word in 'the English language'. The way you phrased it though, doesn't seem like that fits! So I'm probably wrong.
it was the answer, answered by super smart Jac! again Jac, thank you!
The episode a couple of weeks ago when everybody turns thirty seemed to indicate that all the friends are the same age, thirty (i.e. Ross says in ten years we'll be forty and joey says something like he won't turn 31 because he and God have a new deal) but i seem to remember in the episode where joey tries to play 19, chandler saying that joey was already 31, also when ben was born monica said she was only 26 and not thinking about babies yet - which would make her at least 31. and of course monica and ross can't be the same age.
what's the deal? are TPTB actually trying to youthen (is that a word?) the Friends or did they just screw the episode up... will this be the new timeline from now on?

It's a trick and it's phrased wrong - it should be "there are not many words ending in -gry - there are only three words in the English language. Can you name all three?" (or variations on this). Any version that is phrased like the one in your post can't be answered reasonably without using archaic words, and spoils the trick.

I've unsnipped it for you, LPT.
"ot" is cute for "lot", just as "ickle" is cute for "little".
Not necessarily, it's harder to answer questions than it is to ask them.
I think we could call them Nonna & Nonni or something like that (Jacqui will know) if we can decide whether Joseph or Gloria are more likely to have a mother who doesn't speak English, or whether Joey's maternal or paternal grandmother would act like a mother to the eight siblings.
No worries. :)
Okie dokie.

Then I just can't lie convincingly.
Can I assume it's a grin? :P
Thanks :) But I didn't help a lot though!
Hmm... you just made that up, right?
OK, then I just can't think of any questions ;)
Well, surely Tribbiani must be Joseph's family's last name, which is Italian, so his grandmother is more likely not to speak English? Unless, of course, Gloria is also Italian, in which case my point is useless...
I'm going to blame the fact that I was only half awake when I wrote the original list... or something.
I'm going for the 'waiting till other people get them all' approach.

Okay, little experiment, give me a number between 6 and 47231.
Well, I guess Gloria is Italian, since the other grandmother spat on Mussolini's corpse. Brenda Vaccaro was born in 1939, so if Gloria is the same age, then she (and Joseph) would have been born in Italy, and then emigrated to the USA as children with the rest of their families after the war, then met in New York.
Tennant
Not when I *want* to lie it's not!
Aww, thanks :P I'm now assuming it was a yes ;)

Okay - straight answer, someone used to say "ot" as a little girl.
That's a line from 520 "TOW the Ride Along"...
JOEY: Ohh, you're upset because you think I chose Ross over you!
No! I knew you could take care of yourself. Y'know, I mean
Ross, he needed help. He's not street like us!..so you ask the question "When did Joey tell Chandler that he was a real tough guy, and not a wimp like Ross?"
Tennant
Fair's fair ;)
Meaning no one's ever going to get it? ;)
Who?
LOL, is that how you think up your questions? (and why not the first 6?)
In article , Emma J Stoneman wrote:

It's not *that* hard.
Oh, just someone I know...
No, that was simply a demonstration that it's easier to ask questions than it is to answer them. What happens is I come across something that might make a quiz question, so I remember it for later on.
Because I didn't want you to choose the header of 101.
You were unlikely to choose the other 159 headers.
Tennant
*sticks her tongue out and tries to get a good look at it without a mirror* Nothing special, I'm afraid ;)
To *you*...
Ahh.
So you have a load of questions prepared to ask us?
Headers being the bit that says the title, I assume... why does it need 6 lines though?

Not really, coz they get used up, but I invented a new one today. :)

So why is it a sublime pleasure then?
Hmm... I'll think about it :)

If Rachel saw Ross Ross a Ross, what would she see?
Tennant
This is the first post that's come through from you in a few days! Okay, I've written the answer out twice but here it is again, Rachel would see Ross photocopy by x400, the thing (koundis) on his arse

Apart from it being either x4 or x5 depending on how you interpret 400%, you are right - well done! Yes, with an enlarged photocopy Ross would have saved himself considerable embarrassment later on.
Since you got that so fast, the next question is rather harder...

ummmmmm.... AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! I canea think of none! oh! I know one!!!! It's a bit of a tongue twister! I send it to you!
Thanks for that :) Mwahahaha, we will keep finding more and making Tennant drool everywhere! *ahem* I'm sane, honest.
Don't worry dear, we believe you *cough*
Woohoo, I found someone that believes me! Someone that doesn't know I'm actually totally insane! Damn. I screwed that up, didn't I?
A tad bit... :)
Ssh, no one else is reading this, they'll never know!
You're off the hook then!!!
I was on a hook? Sounds painful...
well don't worry, you're off it now! and not even a scar!!! :)
So there's just a hook lying around? Should we move it, or just wait for some responsible adult to move it for us? ;)
I think we should move it before a responisible adult misses it and treads on it... :)
Depends which responsible adult is going to step on it ;)
obviously the responisible adult that can spell responsible (if you check my previous spelling...) that way it's more ironic and fun!
I didn't even notice the mistake :) So if they can't spell responsible, they can't step on the hook?
exactly. Did you get my email, cause I read yours and I can't remember if I replied or not... if I didn't, sorry!

Get the videos!!!!!! What are you waiting for???? ER is on Wednesdays on C4 at 9.30pm but I don't watch it then cause like you I forget! haha! that and I have about two tonnes of work that has to be done.
A large amount of money to fall out of the sky onto my lap.
Heh, I always have two tonnes of work to be done...
ah, I see. I'm the same I spose. I got mine when it was Eid Ul Adha, a time when the grandparents get very genorous...
I should be working now actually. what am I doing here?
Can I have your grandparents please? ;) *thinks* actually, I have enough money, just saving it for the summer!
Not working? :P
haha! you can have them if you want! I've got money stashed away somewhere, but that's going towards my year out!
The obvious answer of course :) I finished my work!!! yay!!!
Yeah, I'll just come round and collect them... oh, wait, don't have the foggiest idea where you live! Ahh well, back to saving, then!
But of course :) I didn't... still got tons of stuff to do :(
hehe! even if you did know where I live you couldn't collect them dear.
Aw. poor Emma :( I've got some lovely Biology to do now...
Cos you'd lock the door and not let me in?
Aww :( I just realised I don't have as much work to do as I thought, the only coursework I need to do now is Electronics - yay!!!
no, they don't live with me :)
You're excited about the coursework, or that you've only got one to do?
LOL, I meant the videos, not the grandparents :P
That fact that I only have one to do... not that I'll ever get it finished...
sorry I have to do something here... I'm very very very sorry OMG!!!! LPT!!!!!!!
haha! I knew that! you may borrow them if you wish, you've just got the very hard task of 1) finding my house and 2) prising them from my bare hands
Ah, well good luck with that...
OK, this is getting to be an obsession now, it's quite scary!
Damn... what if I put MP on the other side of the room and tell you you're only allowed to go to him if I can have your videos?
Just discovered I also have the Easter holidays to finish it, wooo!
yeah, sorry, I just couldn't resist!
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!! don't put me in positions like that!!!! okay, but you still have to figure out where I live! ha! :)
woooooo! I've got a history essay to write and memorise over easter....
At least Tennant didn't notice ;)
LOL... What if I tell you I'll put MP in a ickle box and mail him to you, but I can't unless you tell me where you live? (I'm desperate for videos ;) )
Memorise?! Why?!
I know! phew!
what a comprimising position... AARRGGGHH!!!!! Okay, first proove to me that you can get MP in the box :)
because at least then I won't have to get into a muddle over my notes.
You just know he's going to now, don't you?
It does depend how ickle the box is... I could put him in The Box (from the ep, of course)
Can't you just write it and hand it in?
yup yup yup...
haha, first find MP and put him in the box, then I might consider it :)
nope, it's a timed essay and it's got to be done in school under exam conditions.
Either that, or he won't, now, just cos we've said he will!
Damn, I was hoping you weren't going to say that!
So you get the question first? Weird!
do you think he's reading this anyway?
hehe1 you underestimate me dear :)
well it's not the exam, it's just the coursework. We were supposed to get the titles today, but the stupid teacher wasn't in so we have to wait til tomorrow...
Dunno... hey Tennant, if you're reading this :) I think it might just be us, though!
Either that, or I'm too optimistic!
Grr, I hate that... I have to perform my drama play after Easter now, cos the teacher was ill... argh!
could be, or at least now he's not saying anything but he is reading but s keeping us in suspense, or something like that!
haha! nowt wrong with that :)
AARRRGGGGHH!!!! That sucks!
So what we really want to know is if he's bluffing, double bluffing, or just not reading this ;)
Except for when you're put in a really bad situation and you're annoyingly optimistic anyway! (That's so not me!)
I know! Except she came back and bullied us into staying in at lunchtime and performing it, and we screwed up the lines totally :)
yup. I think... he's double bluffing. Maybe we should ask him in another thread!
Oh God! Did you ever see that Father Ted when they were all stuck in a cave with Richard Wilson and the vicor played by Graham Norton was sooooooo optamistic and soooo annoying??? That was really good!
awwww, well maybe she'll take the 'not being prepared' thing into account...
But then what if he lies there just to confuse us?
No :( I haven't seen any FT in aaages...
Well, I got a B anyway, despite the fact I knew my lines better than another person in my group who got an A*... grr!
then he is a cruel person.
Really? Aw that's too bad. I love that show! If you have paramount I think they're still showing it on there.
Ugh! That sucks when that happens! Well, well done for the B anyway.
So maybe we should ask him in another thread to see if he's cruel or not?
I don't have anything but BBC1/2, ITV and C4 :( I can't even get C5 (and yes, I know it's crap!)
Aww, thanks :) And at least I've finally performed it now, Henry Higgins was driving me insane...
yes, that could work.
oh you don't want C5... It's more of a porn channel than anything else...
Who?
<rolls eyes>
Is all of the stuff (that's been cut out) from this post (dating back to 1985) really necessary?

Most people would just use marbles, but hey, whatever turns you on ;)

That's what Tennant said too, but I'm still scared! *goes to hide in a corner with her blanket* ;)
I won't want it, and it's a porn channel... did one imply the other?
Any particular reason?
awww! <~~~tries to cox Emma away from the corner and out from under the blanket
yes?
yeah, cause I was on for the first scene, then if I really wanted to, I could go to the pub for the rest of the play and then come back for the curtain call!
Noooo, leave me and my blanket alone! *hugs her blanket*
You sound confused!
Heh... did you? ;)
well I tried...
yes I am... :)
I would have! If it weren't for the fact that my part involved me wearing a wig which pissed me off whenever I had to put it on, so if I took it off, there would be no way I would put it on again the same evening!
Just cos I like my blanket :P Don't take my blanket! Mine!
That's OK, I don't remember what my point was any more either.
*grin* You should have taken the wig off and just hoped they wouldn't notice at the curtain call!
I'm not taking your blanket! you can bring your balnket too!
okay cool.
I really should've done that1 Grrrrr! hehe! I love the parts in this play though, I speak oin one, sing in the other :)
Oh, well if I can bring the blanket... Hey ATF!
Glad I'm not doing it, I can't sing! In the play we've just started, I'm the person who has an affair with someone and drives his child to alcohol abuse...
yay! :)
cool!!!! Is it for school, or a proper play? what's it called?
See, no one replied! They all hate me ;)
It's an improvisation... without a name cos it's our final piece, which was a totally free choice
awwww! Well you have to make it very public! I'm sure no one else reads this except for a hiding Tennant..
cool! We do that sort of thing at the theatre. How's it going?
But makes it public means announcing that I'm here to the whooooole world!
Not bad... although I'm now (apparently) a slut, woo! And the picture that someone in my group drew of me looks like an ant, don't ask me why...
okay okay you can hide again...
an ant? That wasn't asking! :) A slut in the play, or a slut in real life? :) <j/k>
Yay! No one wanted to say hi to me anyway :)
Yes, an ant... I have wings, as do all the other characters, cos I'm an affairee.
In the play... although my best friend does keep telling me I'm a slut which gains us odd looks from people who don't know about our play!

I've forgotten the question... what was the price again? Is it per baby?!
In article , "CandiGrrl" wrote:

Not really...

or cleaning bills
Is that in anyway a hint?
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
Or cleaning bills. :)
I just didn't want to mislead you. It is to do with Phoebe's pregnancy, and it does have something to do with the babies that were inside her, but it's not a cost per per baby or anything like that.
Okay, let's make it a bit easier. The pregnancy went from 412 to 503, and something happened during that period. There is something during the period from 512 to 603 to let us know that a particular something would cost an extra $6.30 if Phoebe had been pregnant at the time.
Tennant
Oh for crying out loud this is too hard!
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
Okay. Watch 416 "TOW the Fake Party" and 519 "TOW Ross Can't Flirt".

meat?
ioh no wait I know the answer!!!! When Pregnant, Phoebe had to eat meat, cause that didn't neasiate her, (I can't spell) so when she ordered pizza in TOW Ross can't flirt, it was vegetarian, but should she have been pregnant at the time, it would've had to have been a meat pizza, costing the extra $6.50. <~~~sits back and bangs her heals on the table four times
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
You're getting warmer...
The question says $6.30 actually. Well done so far...
..but it's *not* a meat pizza, so before you can QEDly bang your heels on the table, you must get it right. Try costing out the extra $6.30, okay?
Tennant
alright fine. It's a pepperoni pizza. if you take the total amount the pizza's cost, then divide it by three, you get the cost of the pepperoni pizza. then if you take the cost of the vegetarian pizza, well one of the many ordered. you take that amout away from one of the peperoni pizza's and there's your extra $6.30 so a pepperoni pizza would've cost $6.30 more than a vegetarian pizza if she was preggers at the time the pizza's were ordered. hang on, don't go anywhere, I'm just checking the transcript. 27 divided by three, is... 9 hang on a minute somethings gone wrong hasn't it? okay how did you do this from $12.15?
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
No.
That's the key to the inner core of the puzzle...
Tennant
wait, how??? If Phoebe had been pregnant a year later, she would've been eating meat. so she would've oredered a pepperoni pizza instead which would've cost the extra $6.30 and if that isn't it then I'm out of ideas.
:P I hate your puzzle! :)
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
Pepperoni pizzas are cheaper.
Take the hint, Seran. Instead of trying to guess the answer, and then finding that the money doesn't work out, *start* with the $6.30 and apply it to the pizzas, then it will tell you the answer... :)
Tennant
they are aren't they...
Nope, can't figure it out, I am completely out of ideas!
In article , [email] (Seran Perry) wrote:
Pepperoni pizzas cost $9, vegetarian pizzas cost $12.15, so which would cost more money, who would be eating that type of pizza and how much is the price difference, then how does that compare with $6.30, so how many pizzas are involved, and what is the whole thing called?
Tennant
vegetarien, Phoebe/Joey, $3.15, $3.15 x 2... $6.30 hang on.... Joey special!!!!!!!!!!! Joey would want two pizza's and if Phoebe was pregnant at the time, he would've wanted two vegetarian... the price difference would be $6.30! there, how's that?

I know the answer!!!! Rachel would be watching Ross photocopy the koundis on his arse X400! The kounds was called the ross by Joey, and Chloe said that if someone wants a photocopy of x400 then they Ross it!

That is hard, but I think I know the answer, I'll just have to think of it! oh wait! Is it anything to do with Rachels bra and using it to fling water baloons off the roof?
Oh no wait, ignore my first post! unless it was right of course! Has it got anything to do with the water baloon fight between Elizabeth and...! The kamikazes were used to fill the water baloons, and kamikazees are also a trpe of deadly weapons, so... *thinks about it a little* Also true! While we're on the subject of things I don't know about Friends, what *is* a barium enema?
In article , Emma J Stoneman wrote:
First of all, ooh! LPT!!
Second of all, that's 21 episodes to think about, instead of 163.
If I allow you to keep splitting the range like that, then I might as well just tell you what the answer is, so all I shall say is "yes". :)
A barium drink is a dense liquid that you swallow so that your stomach and intestines will show up clearly on an X-ray. I hear that these days they don't use actual barium any more, so it's not too foul-tasting.
An enema is a large quantity of liquid injected into your rectum for medical or hygienic reasons - and for some people, pleasure...
I've never heard of a barium enema outside of 308 "TOW the Giant Poking Device", (a title thus acquiring new meaning), but it sounds to me like a procedure to make your rectum show up clearly on an X-ray. This seems logical - except a barium drink is unpleasant compared with an ordinary drink, whilst a barium enema would be no worse than an ordinary enema.
Tennant
Don't start that again! ;)
True... but still, it's 462 minutes of Friends to watch...!
Damn... not even if I say "This is the last time, I promise, pleeeeeease"?
Eww!
Right... Thanks for clearing that up for me, I've been wondering that for ages! Next question, have we ever actually seen any ceilings in Friends? I doubt it, since I assume the sets don't have ceilings, but I just thought I'd check :)

Ones to do with this computer, Brad Pitt, and Larry Niven.
Eek.
Tennant
I never get lie ins, I can't be arsed to turn my alarm clock off (guess it's my own fault!)
Who's Larry Niven?
Oddly, since I wrote that, I got about four emails from people that I didn't think knew my other email address, so I'm miles behind again!
In article , Emma J Stoneman wrote:
Ah. I had a lovely lie-in, turned over, and had some more.
Eventually I woke up properly and padded to the loo.
Surprised by the bright white light coming through the window.
Counted one more butter side up.
Famous science fiction author, although we also discuss science fact.
Phoebe would love it, but Ross would get killfiled.
Sometimes the man himself contributes, and we had a *delish* row since one of the newbies (not me) who ought to know better criticised him for being off-topic, and the oldbies said Larry Niven is *always* on-topic.
Four? You meant four hundred, right?
Tennant
TMI :P
That would be daylight, then
What d'you mean?
Heh... the name sounds familiar, but I don't know if I've read anything of his.
I seem to remember you mentioning that before.
Nope, just four long emails - at least I didn't get one from my bro though, his are about 80K, since both of us are too stubborn to snip properly!
In article , Emma J Stoneman wrote:
Lol, you should have seen what I first wrote! Then I looked at it, decided it was TMI, and cut it back...
Yes, but what I was talking about was it shone off the snow.
Because I was dashing around like a bare-arsed fly on Monday & Tuesday, and the weather was lovely. Tuesday night I put the trash out in bare feet because it was so mild and I couldn't be bothered with shoes. Then during the night two inches of snow falls, causing traffic chaos, and yet I didn't have to go nowhere. Now I'm just about to go out shopping and all the snow has melted & it's Spring again! Butter side up.
Inferno, The Mote in God's Eye, Destiny's Road, The Integral Trees, the Known Space series, Lucifer's Hammer, Footfall, The Magic Goes Away...
But of course, it was such a delightful situation.
Yeah - I've noticed... :p
Tennant
Heh... damn it, now I want to know, but don't tell me, cos then I'll wish I didn't know...
Ahh, right... didn't settle round here :(
Hey, no fair... some people get all the luck!
No, then.
You think I'm bad in newsgroups; there's at least 2 or 3 screens of text in my emails to my bro before you get to any new stuff!
In article , Emma J Stoneman wrote:
It had something to do with the lid...
Oh, it was already melting by the time I got up.
Without interference, luck evens itself out - whilst a little assistance from you will bring rather more good luck than bad. People who dwell on bad luck alone receive nothing but. There you go, thought for the day.
I recommended to somebody to read Inferno, but I don't think it was you, I wonder who? <checks> ah, that was Seran on February 4th...
Eek, the Bandwidth Police will get you! ;)
Tennant
Stop telling me now :)
Yeah, but at least it settled for a little while!
Good thought... I should mention that to a friend of mine...
I'll have a look next time I'm in the library.

Does it have anything to do with Chandler, and that sock that he keeps beside his bed?
PS, don't ACTUALLY answer that... lol
Oh, that's a shame. It could have been $2.10 per baby in that case. Maybe the price of maternity clothes went up?! Is it mentioned in Friends, or is it something to do with the outside world?
In article , "CandiGrrl" wrote:
Yep. But it isn't.
Everything you need to know is in the show. As far as I recall, nothing to do with pregnancy is mentioned a year after Phoebe was pregnant, and if it is then it's irrelevant.

Is it something to do with tests? Are tests more expensive on women of a certain age or something? And is the figure mentioned in Friends?
In article , "CandiGrrl" wrote:

Maybe, I wouldn't know - not only am I a man, but in Britain these types of test are all free of course.
The exact figures which you need are mentioned in "Friends", but sadly you will have to calculate the $6.30 for yourself. Be sure to listen very carefully to the dialogue for complete accuracy.
Tennant
Dunno but she'd have ended up spending at least $3000 more than she did.

Tana has already said that Phoebe would have spent that much because she would have bought a plane ticket to England for Ross's wedding, but my question is about an extra cost of just $6.30, and it's not an estimate.
