French DVD

I was thinking of buying Friends Season 2 on DVD, so I had a quick look around:

amazon.co.uk lists it at �52.99

but amazon.fr lists it at only 45.81 euros - just �28.45!

Presumably these are nearly the same DVD, they both have the same languages available for audio and subtitles! Why is it so expensive in Britain?! Rip-off Britain at work again, perhaps?!

Anyway, what I wanted to ask was...are the menus on the French DVD available in English and other languages, or only in French? Also, does anyone know if French DVDs are OK to play on British TV sets as I know in France they use SECAM whereas we use PAL here in the UK.

AFAIK, the French DVDs are identical to ours, except for the packaging.

French DVDs are PAL. SECAM is only for TV transmition.

But both amazon.co.uk and amazon.fr lists this DVD as Region 2. Also, I think I read somewhere that Region 0 DVDs can't be played in some Region 2 players - even though they're meant to be played in any DVD player anywhere in the world.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I think I'll give the French ones a go, seems quite a bargain and I don't really care about the French packaging at that price! ;-)

As to my knowledge PAL and SECAM are pretty much the same, its just another name (you know those French people...)

and also amazon.fr must have some sort of special discount on those dvds, as they are something like 95 Euro at amazon.de, besides there are no DVD season boxes available on the european continent (to my knowledge) other than the UK import ones.

Wrong. All seven seasons are available in boxsets (3 or 4 DVD's) in Belgium, France, and other european countries. And they're not imported, because the text on the boxes is in french.
