Emmy Nominee and 'Pyramid' Host Donny Osmond Also Guest Stars As Himself

BURBANK, Calif. -- November 4, 2003 -- Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning actor Danny DeVito ("Taxi") will make a episodic television appearance on NBC's "Friends" (Thursdays, 8-8:30 p.m. ET), as an over-the-hill stripper performing at Phoebe's (Lisa Kudrow) bachelorette party in an episode to air in February. Emmy Nominee Donny Osmond also guest stars in the episode as himself when Joey (Matt LeBlanc) appears as a celebrity contestant on "Pyramid."

The episode will air during February sweeps.

Don't get me wrong, i think it's great that all these guest stars want to make an appearance, but i think these last few seasons have have too many. I think the writers are more concerned with getting big names to guest star (danny devito, greg kinnear, john stamos, whoever else) than they are with writing a good show. Back in the earlier seasons which i consider the best, there were a few gues stars, yes, but NOTHING like this. I think the writing is suffering because of it. Every other episode almost has a guest star. It takes away from the show. just my opinion.

I think you've hit the nail on that proverbial head. This has been a problem for several seasons, reminiscent of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour," where they relied too much on guest appearances than turning out a good script. What's especially worrisome is, this is "Friends," a show that has nine seasons of mostly exceptional writing. It's not as though the people who turn out this show are unable to turn out a better program. They're capable of creating some of the most memorable television in history. Someone posted a few weeks ago that maybe the writers were just trying to make sure we didn't miss the show, by creating such lousy episodes. I know I'm more often intrigued by what's happening on "Survivor" and find myself clicking over to that more often than I ever thought possible.. and I've always considered myself to be a die-hard "Friends" fanatic. If the show is going to go out in style, they've got to start working awfully hard.

speaking of phoebe, since she's gettig married with mike why he wasn't on few late3st episodes? It's like they don't spend time together anymore and they aren't even married yet :)

I was wondering that.. does anyone remember what he does for a living??? For some reason all I remember is that he plays the piano.
