Ep 817 - where did the "WOW" go?

I've been watching the latest episode and one thing struck me. Usually when the "big" guest star enters the show (like B. Pitt, or B. Willis) there is a loud "WOW" from the audience, accompanied by clapping and etc. But in 817 Alec Baldwin enters a scene and there is nothing.... For a moment I thiught that maybe they recorded the scene with him earlier when there was no audience present, but then there were laughs, so someone had to be there. So what I wanted to ask: is Mr. Baldwin not a popular actor in US, or maybe someone has some other explanation.

I wondered about that also because Alec Baldwin is an A-list actor and I always thought he was popular...maybe not as popular as Brad Pitt but I would say he is popular.

I have been there for tapings but every guest star even any regualr character was welcome with a WOW... maybe they taped it earlier...

Well, I remember when Charlie Sheen in TOW the chicken pox came along the hall didn't get the "WOW" either. Weird, maybe they taped it without audience...

I saw no advertising that Alec Baldwin was going to appear. So, it might have caught the audience off guard too. On the other hand, it may have been recorded earlier without an audience. The laughter might have been from a laugh track. They often use laugh tracks to fill in spaces where the live audience reaction doesn't work well with the situation--usually a laugh that is too big and slows the action of the scene, but it could be used for a scene that was not presented before an audience too.

The spoiler for 817 doesn't say anything about Alec Baldwin being in it. So, perhaps the scene was shot later.
