I think the problem with what Janice said is that is was true. Even though its Janice and she has never been the brightest crayon in the box, in this situation she is talking from expirience. She has and ex-husband and a child with him and she is telling Rachel what happened to them. When Ross and Rachel first broke up they couldn't be in the same room together. Even if they don't get together there is a possiblity Ross could find a wife and who knows where life would take them. His first proirity would have to be to his wife and his children and maybe Emma and Rachel would get lost in the mix.

I also think that when Ross said that Emma was gorgeous and all Rachel it just seemed to me that he was looking at Rachel in a superfical view only looking at her looks and not her personality and how they were together. He got hurt a lot in their relationship and he only sees Rachel on the outside when he looks at her.

Rachel must have on some level thought about a r/j relationship a lot. Who knows maybe she was thinking it could be great. We don't know. But the way she said ok seemed as though she was already in deep thought about the issue. Maybe Janice gave her a little push to open her mind to her and joey. Please don't get upset because this thread deals with r/j There still could be a r/r relationship.

i truly belive that if Ross did get married Emma would not see her father everyday and Rachel would be almost by herself in rasing her. I know that Ross loves his children, but yet he doesn't spend everyday with Ben. He has his own life and his own career goals and such. Ross is very focused on a career. If Ross were to get married he would still play a part in raising Emma, but not on such a personal level if he and Rachel lived together. I also think that he didn't play such a large part in rasing Ben, because Ben didn't even know he was part Jesus until he was 6 or 7. If Ross had taken a more active role in the bringing up of Ben he would have learned more about Judaism. Don't get me wrong, from what I see on screen Ross is a great dad and his devotion to Ben is strong. What you mentioned above about Emily shows me that.

I also think there if a difference her between Ben and Emma because Ben had Carol and Susan when Ross is not there, but Emma will have just Rachel. It is true all of the FRIENDS will be there for Emma and Rachel, but however one day Ross should realize that he needs to think about himself for once and if he finds a nice lady to marry he should move with her. He will still be there for Emma it's just Rachel should be scared about the bringing up of her child because what Janice said was a possiblity

I also think that when Ross said that Emma was gorgeous and all Rachel

It is a very nice comment however Rachel has always been the pretty attractive girl to Ross. In TOW the Prom Video he got all flabergast when she asked him if her hooks were undone. He has always gotten like that around her. He sees Rachel, pretty Rachel, attractive Rachel and know they have a baby who is obviously beautiful, but yet Ross is only thinking of how Rachel looks. He was hurt in their relationship. I am just saying that it is suprising that Ross doesn't see the hurt Rachel did unto him when he sees her.

Another point I figured I could squeeze in is that when Ross and Phoebe were gazing at Emma. I figured Ross was looking the way he did because he was filled with love for his daughter. When he started crying I think it was because he was overcome with love for his daughter and for protecting her from harm. A lot of fathers feel that way at the birth of a child especially a girl.

Of course there was no indictation of this, but before 802 there was no indications that r/r had slept together either. We just have to go with the flow.

I said above that we don't know what she was thinking. We just have to wait and see.

And if Rachel gets married first? And starts HER "real family"? Well, none of this will be relevant, because you obviously are grasping at straws to make Ross look like an ass.>> > Rachel must have on some level thought about a r/j relationship a lot.

Well, judging by the way Rach acted in 824, she's thought A LOT about her and Ross being together.>I also think that when Ross said that Emma was gorgeous and all

This is complete crap. You're just trying to find a way to make Joey look better than Ross. Try again.

No, that is not at all what I am trying to say. I do think that Rachel or Ross has the freedom to say yes or no to starting their family. Considering how quicky Rachel said "ok" to Joey makes me think that she may be the first to get married. What I am saying is that is could work both ways. If Rachel gets married first than she would still lost Ross but gain the love and support of a husband. I think it would be better if Rachel got married frist because Ross would be free to start his own family

No I don't think that. I think she just jumped into thinking about it right after Janice flipped her out. I don't think that Rachel was even considering a r/r relationship until Janice scared her and she was trying to justify her thinking to Janice by saying that things with Ross were heating up

I also think that when Ross said that Emma was gorgeous

No matter what you say Ross always thought that Rachel was very beautful and when he looks at her he sees the ninth grade Rachel not the 27 year old Rachel who ripped out his heart and stomped on it. He should just take into consideration what Rachel did to him and how much their relationship breakups hurt him. I am not trying to make Joey look better than Ross. I like the both of them equally but in this SITUATION I think JOEY is better for RACHEL than ROSS! So please don't give me your crap about what I am trying to do.

Mike the Real American HeroCaitrion

What does Ross saying that Rachel is beautiful have to say FOR or AGAINST R&R being "better" for each other?

Gyah, would YOU stay with a woman like HER? Oy, that voice...however, what Janice said, IMO, sounded more like tranference to me. Just because SHE has a "baby daddy" issue, then Rachel will have one too. What, now she's predicting the future? Unsolicted advice is good...in some situations. IMO, it was in poor taste to say it in such an emotional situation (giving birth).

We'll never know...until next season, yes? ;-)

Mmm...I think he was having a new daddy moment.

The way she said it, to me, sounded just the opposite: "OK!" All fast and quick. Like, just because there's a man on the floor on one knee with a ring in his hand.

No worries. I think if there was a chance with Rachel and Joey, the show needs to make it "stick" this time around.

Has anyone thought that maybe Janice was reacting emotionally to her own child's birth? Rachel wasn't the only one being run over by hormones. It could be that giving birth made Janice emotional and brought back the pain of what the Mattress King did to her and their daughter. Granted, it wasn't her place to share those feelings with Rachel at that point in time, but I'm sure she thought she was helping.

Sheesh, all the more reason to not be pregnant...all those emotions making you say things you really didn't mean...(just kidding...kind-of).

At any rate, hormones *could* be to blame, I suppose.

I wouldn't say that the hormones make you say things you don't mean. But, they can make you less tactful about what you say. I was a total bitch during my last pregnancy because I lost whatever used to censor my thoughts from what I said. Basically, I was just bluntly honest, but other people thought I was just being bitchy.

That's very interesting. In many ways, life might be a lot easier if everyone acted like they were on pregnancy hormones, although Christmas morning might be a little uncomfortable.

Hormones or not, Janice was extremely rude by talking to Rachel about this just hours after Rachel giving birth.

If I had a choice between her and Monica, Rachel or Phoebe? In a second.

I dunno, am I the only one who thinks she's been treated really shabbily over the years?

Chandler makes a point of dumping her on every major holiday. She treats everyone as, err, friends, and they make snide comments behind her back. Chandler and Monica lie to her so she won't go to the wedding. Ross, an ex-lover, makes snide comments about her baby.

Only because she's on the show once a season. A whole season of Janice and I'm sure you'd change her mind.

Which is part of her schtick; her resiliency is something a viewer should like about her. She's not a regular guest star because people hate her.

Didn't Janice dump him in the end?

Uhm, telling Rachel that Ross will forget Emma and marry some other chippie is not someone I'd call a "friend."

Because she invited herself to it.

Maybe the baby *was* ugly. And Janice didn't make snide comments about Ross?

No, Chandler dumped her over and over again. Eventually, he did the honorable thing and honestly broke up with her so she could go back to her husband. (then he got clingy and tried to take it back)

Um, she was looking out for Rachel because she went through it herself.

Statistically speaking, she was right too.

She still deserved honesty.

Regardless, you don't make snide comments about a newborn baby, especially when you're an ex-lover of the mother.

And Janice didn't make snide comments about Ross?

No.

And Janice was making out with her husband while still going out with Chandler. That's worse.

Treating Ross like a statistic--how friendly. And she wasn't looking out for Rachel's benefit--she was interfering in Rachel's life without asking and knowing all the facts. That's like strangers coming up to you, asking when you're gonna get married or have children--very rude.

Janice treats them like crap. That the Friends treat her like crap doesn't make me feel any more sorry for Janice.

Yes.

Why is that worse? Because Chandler is a main character, and therefore can do no wrong?

Face it, Chandler used Janice. H wanted sex, or he wanted to feel like he wasn't alone, then he dumped her, repeatedly. I have doubts about how bright she was to keep coming back, but that doesn't let him off the hook.

And to quote Xander Harris, "you know when the best time to break up with someone is? Any day but valentine's day."

She wasn't a stranger, and she wasn't interfering. She was talking about her own experience. I don't remember her forcing Rachel to do anything.

Sofya

She was out of the room for that one. Ross probably got payback for that line when Emma was born. If genetics hold true, she's in line for a fairly impressive nose of her own, since both parents have had nose jobs-Rachel in the show, David Schwimmer in real life, though since it was after the show started, Ross would have to have had one too.
