812: TOW Joey Dates Rachel

This is the title of the next new episode, airing Jan. 10th, according to NBCMV.com

Check for yourselves...does this mean they are starting a Joey/Rachel romance? Smack dab in the middle of her pregnancy?

Call me crazy but I think that the name of this episode is just a tease!! The promo for 811 was a bit of a tease and it didn't live up to expectations. I wouldn't put my money on a Rachel/Joey relationship. At least not for more than one episode. What do you think Ross' reaction to that would be? It won't happen!

I think that the writers are doing the whole jealously thing with RnR, except in reverse, this time it will be Ross getting jealous because Rach may be involved or has feelings for someone else. Also, I find it apauling that Rachel would even consider dating one of the father of her child's best friends, esp. while she is pregnant, I would find that true even in real life. If it were some random guy it would be different. But that is just my opinion. Cathy

Joey has always shown care for his friends in the past. He'd never really date Rachel without Ross's permission (think about the whole Chandler/Cathy incident), and I don't see Ross giving that out anytime in the near future.

They will probably go on a date. It's the wrong time of year to start a plot development as serious as a new inter-friend romance. That happens during sweeps. Throwaway stuff happens in December.

On the other hand, there was that whole thing about "be friends first" a couple of years ago. Joey was hitting on Rachel (since he saw her first).

On another note, Joey "dated" Phoebe for a while too, and nothing really came of it. I know it wasn't really dating, they just got together for a meal on a regular basis.

The big question in this new episode is . . . will there be "definite cupping" . . . or maybe touching or kissing? OMG, you don't think . . . Ohhhhhhh no, I can't think of THAT! Not with THEM. I mean, there would DEFINITELY be strings attached. And nobody wants that. Nobody on the show that is. I recognize the Joey/Rachel contingient in this NG, but please no.

I'm an admitted R&R fan. So, sue me.

Rachael gets a date and is stood up, Joey being the knight in shining armour goes on the date with her to keep her happy, and joey being joey takes her home (and to his home;)) Joey gets Drunk Racheal gets..umm...high, and they kiss.

Anyway, after a couple of attempts to get his attention away from Rachel, she gives up, which, with an odd twist, actually attracts his attention, and he fall for her too. As it turns out she is a big fan of "dinosaurs and stuff" as she puts it. It's a match made in television heaven. End of series.

As a devout R&R man, I hope it never happens that way, but it was fun to think about it. Chalk it up to the ramblings of a tired guy on Christmas Eve.

Joey cares more for Rachel these days than Ross does. After 811, can you honestly say that he is anywhere worthy of a decent relationship.

If something happens between J&R it won't be when they're drunk. They've already done it with C&M.

I wish DS leaves the show, so the path is clear for a Joey/Rachel relationship.

The writing for Ross has been horribly erratic. He will be magically capable or incapable of whatever contrived garbage the writers make him capable of; Ross stopped being consistently written years ago.

My biggest objection to the Joey/Rachel axis probably really is that Rachel is currently pregnant with Ross' child, and it just seems too unspeakably cruel to have Ross, originally written as the show's incurable romantic, be left all by himself, alone, with three divorces, no prospect, and two children with different women, neither of whom live with him.

Really, really stop and think about what it means if Ross is jettisoned and ignored to make way for Joey and Rachel. It means his entire eight year story has been an almost unrelenting saga of devastating personal loss and decline into despair and emotional ruin. Really think about it. 1.) What's the guarantee Ross will end up alone if he doesn't end up with Rachel? If they keep Mona on long enough through the rest of the season, they could easily end the show with them together. And like Tennant's favorite fantasy, Ross could easily be the Ying to Phoebe's Yang.

2.) Is Joey dating Rachel while pregnant with Ross's child a complicated situation? Yes, but that's why the writers would do it. The way the writers have led us with these characters so far this season, unless they do a complete flip-flop on their personalitites, it doesn't seem like the writers are setting up Ross as the guy to root for.

4.) There is NO WAY Joey would date Rachel if he thought it would hurt Ross. 100% no way. This won't even be an issue unless Ross hides his feelings really, really well.

What I have against a R&R relationship is that when they dated, Ross always comprimised. It was always Rachel's spoiled bitchy attitude and Ross having to put up with it. Then later, when the writers decide to split them up, they make Ross the bad guy with all the jealousy and that copy girl. Its was okay that Rachel was in love with Ross during the London eps. If they had to get back together, it was then. Not after that. No way.

Ross wanting to stay married to Rachel in S5 is also in a way understandable. He's had feelings for her since high school. Some residual feelings may have remained. But by this, Rachel feels nothing for him. So much that she can't even consider the thought of being married to him for a second. And silly physical drives since then have nothing to do with 'love' or old feelings being rekindled. Gimme us a break! Pun intended.

Rachel has changed a lot since season 3 but when it comes to Ross, she's still somewhat the old Rachel. She readily lies about him coming onto her and expects him to apoligise. Lies to her dad about him.

So, if Ross and Rachel do get together because of the baby or feelings developed because of the baby, its going to be the same old one sided relationship that it was. Ross really deserves better. He should go and find himself a woman that he doesn't have bend over backwards to satisfy.

Which is why I didn't like Mona this episode. She is also making him do things he doesn't want but because he feels he has to.

I completely agree with everything that you said. But what I'm thinking is that when you love someone... and I still feel throughout it all, buried within him he still does have feelings for her, that you are willing to "bend over" to a bitchy girl, well at least Ross is. Maybe thats just his character. I personally would never "bend over" backwards for anyone. But maybe thats how profound his love his and always will be and thats probably why none of his relationships worked out...maybe subconsiously he did not want them to work out because he still sees himself in the end...at the altar with Rachel.

I'm not saying its okay or right that he "bends over" for Rachel but i'm saying thats just Ross. Yes, i do think he should change and yes i do think that he deserves better. But i think its up to Ross(the writers) to decide what Ross would do or feel, you know.

I'm beginning to rekindle my bad feelings for Rachel. I had been holding a long grudge at her since the "we were on a BREAK" scene and even before that. We all know she's a bi*** but i guess i thought Ross could change her...isn't that interesting...usually the girl wants to change the guy(ex: when Rachel wrote him that letter and she was like "this shows me how much you've grown Ross" and pats his cheek...i wanted to slap Rachel so hard at that moment!!!).

But seriously (jokes and cynicism aside) I don't think there should be a Joey/Rachel pairing at all. Its just too unrealistic and certainly very much in the realms of soap operas. Imagine Rachel being best friends and hanging out at the central perk with her best friends, 2 of whom she'd had a relationship with. How many people out there have actually been in a situation like this?

Plus I hope the cast stay intact. Hoping for DS to leave Friends so that it paves the way for Joey/Rachel might backfire on the show as a whole. Firstly there is going to be that void that needs to be filled should DS leave the show and next there's that huge Ross/Rachel camp's followers that Friends is going to leave behind. I came across a poll last week - "Who should Rachel end up with?" The answer : > 80% for Ross and the remaining split between Joey and none other than Gunther. How much of it will impact Friends & its ratings should Ross is not there for another season of Friends?

Although I am originally from NYC, I remember living in Albany, NY where we got a 6 bedroom, huge living rooms, dual kitchen house for $1200. Now back in NYC, a closet for $1200 is a steal. Although there are deals to be had, just have to find them.

If Joey and Rachel were to start dating, it would be probably the single most important event of the season. They didn't run the biggest stuff in January in 1998, they won't do it now.
