Hey Frienatics,
I just finished watching the 6th season finale of Friends and it was a great episode, as expected. Friends writers always gives us great season finales. Probably the best episode of the season, although it has the advantage of being the finale and it was an hour long!

I was crying, too. In fact, I had trouble stopping. I didn't spoil this episode, and it was so much more fun! I thought Monica had really left- and then when I saw those candles, I began freaking out! I really enjoyed this episode. I was yelling at the TV the whole time. Anyways, it was really fun!

I was prepared to -not- like this episode, because I thought the premise of having Richard come back and threaten the engagement was stretching credibility, after they had two breakups and last year's reunion which, we were told, didn't mean anything to Monica. However, I was pleasently surprised at how the writers were able to draw the story out over an hour, how they managed to avoid obvious cliches like an "I love her more" arguement between Chandler and Richard, and most importantly, that they remembered that somethimes its best -not- to be funny for a few minutes.
My only quibbles were:
Chandler still needs better writing - someone with his history of snappy witicism's should have been able to say something more interesting on the subject of marriage.
The subplot about Phoebe drinking the bar dry at the benefit seemed very out of place and just hung there. Is this supposed to be a problem calling for future resolution, or just an excuse for some weak jokes? I was expecting, and would have found more believeable, PHOEBE bidding $20,000 for the boat "for the children" Because she was plastered.
Ross is getting better, but is still a little whiny. Taking a water baloon attack in stoic silence would have been a lot more realistic than complaining about his suit.

I was in the same boat -- and had the same reaction. It's a wonder on a sitcom when characters behave like adults and the humor comes from the situation -- and we saw a great deal on the show of a character NOT acting like an adult, i.e. Chandler trying to pretend he had no interest in marriage. Perhaps one can go with the technique of overstatement and argue that it's funny that he overplayed his hand so much, but I think it passed the limits of humor and went over into bad farce -- though he did manage a save at the end with the intercession of his friends.
My favorite comedies are those which learn this lesson.
Probably the latter -- unless we can in the future expect to see "a very special episode of <Friends>." She did note in the season opener that she was drunk, but I dunno how much future there is in that line. Of course, Phoebe is really from some other planet (look at her father) so perhaps her metabolism is unlike an Earthling's.

Yeah, it's rare he gets a dramatic show. Remember when he was on Growing Pains? Those were all dramatic epsiodes, if I remember right. But it is good to see him do something else for a change.

I love it when he gets dramatic roles. When he was on 90210, he acted better than most of the actors hired for the show. A wonderful dramtic proformance.

It was a good episode, and frankly I could see how if the negotiations had gone bad that the series could of ended on this episode.The final scene was excellent, extremely well written and acted. The ultimate expression of the "Joey fake-out" Easily among their best work this year or for the last two years.
