The Return of Janice

I was happy to see Janice (Maggie Wheeler's) name appear in the credits for the official description of this week's show. She is a great character and I feared we had seen the last of her in episode 707- TOW Ross' Library Book: "Chandler, you call me when this goes in the pooper." So the big question is what story line have they come up for her? One can only speculate but I have to believe they wouldn't have brought back Chandler's old flame for nothing. She is clearly going to play the trouble-maker in some capacity. She may even have some part in a season-ending cliffhanger. It's true she had a once had a fling with Ross but since he is totally preoccupied with Rachel and the baby, I can't believe she will come between Ross and Rachel. To say the least, it would be bad form for him to get involved with her in this setting. And, of course, we are familiar with Joey's antipathy to Janice. Which leads us to Chandler. The arrival of Rachel's baby is a momentous event but is also a fait accompli. There is no suspense there, unless you're worried about what the baby's name is. That's why I think we will see something develop between Chandler and Janice. Imagine this storyline: The group is sitting around the hospital, bored silly because Rachel is still a long time from having her baby. Monica is upset with Chandler because he has expressed second thoughts about whether they should have a child of their own. Janice comes stumbling into the hospital with a minor injury but wailing with typical Janice histrionics. Chandler, the gentlemen, goes to her aid and eventually they start talking and fondly remembering old times. The last scene of the season has Janice make a pass at Chandler and Monica walks in to catch them. Okay, maybe it's a little melodramatic but I think they've needed to add some tension to the Chandler/Monica relationship for a long time.

LOVE JANICE !!!! Whatever happens I know I'll be cracking up watching her !

I like your idea, quite possible to happen. But someone said Chandler doesn;t have a problem and will even sleep with Monica in hospital in the last episode trying to make a baby. Also, how do you explain Ross mum being around at the cliff-hanger?

I got another idea for Janice. She gets to hospital. Ross asks Joey to keep the ring for Rachel until later. Everyone is occupied apart from Joey and Janice, who start to talk, and Joey feeling lonely, and hurt as Rachel is sleeping away, sleeps with Janice, she finds the ring, and assumes Joey has finally come around and asking her to marry her.

Ok, admitingly not as good as your idea :) And still doesn't explain Ross mum being around at the last moment.

Anyone?

I thought we had already decided that Janice was delivering her baby the same time as Rachel (in the same room) and something about Janice saying that Ross wouldn't stick around for the long haul, or something like that...and that Rachel's baby was Emma Gellar Greene?

Hmmm....

My theory on the return of Janice: * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Think back, 9 months ago Friends time...it's the eve of the wedding....Chandler was missing the whole night, scared of marriage, second thoughts, etc...........9 months later, Janice is in the hospital delivering a baby.......my theory is the cliffhanger has to do with whether Chandler, too becomes a daddy, and what really happened to Chandler the eve of his wedding.........

You know something... I never thought about that.! Good memory! I was thinking about that comment that Janice made back when she slept with Ross about having one more of the guys to sleep with. Frankly, I like your idea better!

oh i really really don't think so. the cliffhanger will have something to do with ross and rachel's relationship - and maybe, maybe joey and rachel's.

Actually Rachel's baby was conceived 6 weeks before the wedding of Chandler and Monica. If your theory was correct, Janice's baby would be born 5 weeks early. I doubt that she then would be in the same delivery room as Rachel as there certainly would be some precautions necessary to ensure the baby's health...

Isn't Rachel's baby a couple weeks (or at least one week) late?

Chandler, too

Rachel is 1-2 weeks late. The lungs of a fetus generally mature (to breath on their own) 3-5 weeks prior to delivery. A month premature baby would not have special precautions in the delivery room. What happens is right after birth they briefly show the baby to the mother and then wisk it away to the neo natal ICU to be checked out. I have had two babies this way.

I do like the idea of Janice's baby being the offspring of one of the friends. I'm hoping Ross.

I don't think this is the case for two reasons...

1. This was discussed and dismissed in the spoiler. If Chandler even suspected that he might be the father, he would be going all "Chandler" instead of running around trying to get his wife pregnant. He and Monica had sex after this incident and and the spoilers do not indicate any fear on Chandler's part.

2. This would be even more of a soap opera than the previous story with R/R/J. Monica would be devastated (sp). Ross, Rachel and Phoebe would never forgive him and his friendship with Joey, though maybe not destroyed, would suffer.

I do think however that Janice and Chandler may be the cliffhanger. No one seems to be paying much attention to this storyline because it is not the main one so it can easily slip though. Think about it...Chandler is finally ready to be a father. Janice is in the story. The baby she just had doesn't seem likely his as stated above. She randomly tells Rachel that Ross will move on when he finds his real family. Could her first son possibly be his? This would spice up next season. Monica trying to get pregnant...if she doesn't get pregnant right away, the pressure would be huge considering Chandler already would have one child by someone else so he would not be the problem. The writers are saying shocking. That would be shocking. Judy could fit in somewhere with this storyline.

Sorry, reading this back makes it seem like I am trying to say Janice's first son could be Ross'. I meant Chandler's. Further down it makes sense but is a little confusing right there. I was trying to write fast and proofread as I went because it was storming bad here and I wanted to shut down my computer...like that would really protect it from a lightning strike.

How about Joey's? She did say 2 down, 1 to go... :)

Actually it was six weeks before The One With The Videotape. TOW The Videotape takes place after the couple return from their honeymoon. They didn't leave for their honeymoon right away. So, I would guess this all took place two weeks after the wedding. So, Rachel would have conceived the child (and then mailed the invitations) four weeks before the wedding.

Maybe not the same room, but perhaps the same hospital. Monica and Chandler could find her while snooping around. Wouldn't *that* be embarrassing?

Rachel wouldnt wait 6 weeks to take an at home pregnancy test, or even 4 weeks...shed take it as soon as she suspected she might be pregnant...which would be as soon as her period was a couple of days late.....which would make her about two weeks pregnant at the time of the test (and yes, they do make pregnancy tests kits that can detect that early)..........as i remember she and ross were finishing the invitations which "should have been sent out weeks ago"........so therefore.........rachel would have been two weeks pregnant at the time janice conceived...........skip ahead 9 months....rachel was 1 week late last week.......so maybe two weeks late this week when she delivers.........at the same time janice is due......so therefore, chandler could have gone running to janice in a fit of insecurity on the eve of his wedding, impregnanting her.....and she had extended an open invitation to him in her last appearance to look her up...........so i still think its plausible that THATS the reason janice shows up in the season finale...........

Ok the way I see it this could be very soap opera like, but if it is handled in the right way it may not be. I think that if Janice really were to be giving birth to Chandler's baby I see her approching Monica and telling Monica that it was Chandler's baby, but yet she is willing to keep it and raise it as her baby, but she thinks Monica has a right to know. Monica is shocked at first and confronts Chandler on his infedelity. He amidits everything and apologises profusely. They don't speak and the season finale is centered around this(besides the other things) and then Monica goes to visit her stepchild and shes Chandler is the baby so to show Chandler she loves him her and Janice work it our so Monica and Chandler can adapt the baby. Then Janice leaves mysteriously telling Monica that the baby is part of "her to because she and Chandler accepted me and were my friends and I know you will love it"

My guess is this: Janice has absolutely nothing to do with the cliffhanger. I've heard it definitely has to do with Ross and Rachel.

"Satinladee" wrote in message news:[email]...

Okay here comes the math: Rachel was already pregnant 2-4 weeks by the wedding day. (The invitations weren't even mailed before the baby's conception. So, I'm leaning toward 4 weeks.) Now she's, what? eight days overdue? So, that means Janice would have to be about 3 weeks early. Okay, that's definitely doable.

But what if Ross went out to that bar (you know, where he found Janice the last time) and tried the Western Europe hiking story on her. That could be a sticky situation that would possibly open the door for Joey and Rachel. (OMG, am *I* supposing a J&R thing?!)

On the other hand, what if Joey hooked up with her during his distress after being rejected by Rachel. Three for three! Could it be? Furthermore, remember when Ross explained that it had been six months since he had had sex. Joey says he had sex "last night." What if that was with Janice? That would put the two conceptions only a day apart.

Someone said she wasn't on the recording of the final episode, yet her name is on the list of credits, therefore she comes up at the clifhanger with something. But with what? Maybe she becomes double grandmother at the same time ? Or maybe in the clifhanger Janice tells ONLY Judy that the baby is Judy's grandchild???? Or Monica's stepchild? Then the whole 9th serous works around all the others finding out and dealing with it???? What else exciting can Judy possibly do?

A possibility or what?
