811: The One With Ross' Step Foward Review

Storyline:: After hearing Mona wants to send a Holiday Card with both her and Ross in it, Ross soon starts to freak out as to where his relationship is going with Mona.

Characters: Ross and Mona

Review: After viewing this storyline, I thought it should have been called “The One Where Ross Totally Freaks Out.”, becomes that’s all he seemed to do in the whole episode from the beginning to the end. The storyline really didn’t provide any comedic moments, unless you count Ross freaking out, but it was more of an anticipation as to know where they are and if it will lead to a break up. Unfortunately for some, it was not answered seeing that Ross finally said “I love you” to Mona, while she just replied “I love hanging out with you too.” The only some-what funny moments were Ross nervously biting on his nails and Joey wanting not to see the pictures but after hearing they were just of Mona’s breast he was very interested. And Ross changing the lock wasn’t funny, it just kind of showed Ross was a nutcase and doesn’t really know where him and Mona are at.

Storyline Grade: 85 (B) -------------------------------------- Storyline:: After having sexual urges when seeing one (young) guy after another in her fourth month of pregnancy, Rachel really feels she needs to get it out of her system and just have one romantic night with any guy and with no strings connected.

Review: The anticipation of the whole episode was leading to the ending of this storyline and episode. Some of the funny parts were mainly with Phoebe, which she kept reminding the girls of how she was having a sexual urge to Evander Holifield when she was pregnant during her fourth month of pregnancy. The funny part about that was especially when she couldn’t give up the cardboard cut out she stole from Footlocker to Rachel at the end of the episode. And let’s not forget that moment where she brought a very old virgin man to have sex with Rachel. But for some of us, we really wanted to know if these sexual urges were leading towards Joey and if it would lead to a kiss; of course they didn’t. To me them freaking out seemed like they were a bit nervous about the fact that it could happen but they just wouldn’t feel too comfortable because they are too close of friends. Still it could lead to more problems of the friendship status they have after thinking about doing it. That awkwardness scene was pretty funny. I was hoping for a conclusion in the tag but didn’t. The question still is the same some how if they were to happen to end the storyline with a kiss: what is going to happen now between them? There was no word about Ross, except that Rachel was feeling an attraction towards him too. Too bad they didn’t lead this storyline to the extent of Rachel having an attraction towards Gunther; now that would have been funny.

Storyline:: To get out of dinner with his boss, Chandler pretends that he isn’t married to Monica anymore which leads to a night of strip clubs and more.

Characters: Chandler and his boss

Review: Can you say ‘boring’? As I have always believed almost every storyline involving Chandler’s work his seemingly un-entertaining such as The One With Rachel’s Date. Although Perry did seem to look like his normal self he still didn’t provide any wit and not a funny joke at all. Monica’s one time joke “I wish we had something to do” was amusing but not real funny. This just came down to be like every Monica and Chandler storyline from season 7: a reassurance between the two. I was amazed Monica didn’t mind. I mean they could have made up better or funnier plans than pretending to be split up. The only question left up in the air here is: what will Chandler’s boss and co-workers think of him now? Oooh the possibilities!

Notes

-Monica, Phoebe, and Joey played almost a part in everyone’s storyline excluding Joey, who was just a part of Rachel’s storyline, but at the same time they all seemed to be very underused.

-I bet people were really anticipated to see what was going to happen in Ross’ and Rachel’s storyline; big disappoints for some in both storylines. --------------------------------------

The whole Ross freaking out thing was (I believe) just to start to show that Mona will not be around much longer. In this effect the writers did get their point across. They were just showing the beginning of the end of Mona and Ross. I wish that Ross would have dumped her already though. But there is no doubt in my mind that Mona's days are limited!! And, so then, begins the R&R reunion!! :)

I also believe that this is the begining of the end of Rachel and Joey living together. They will both see that they need to go their separate ways to help maintain a healthy friendship. Where Rachel will go is anybody's guess. But if the reunite R&R soon then I think she will end up living with Ross. If the writers wait until the season finale to reunite them then I be willing to bet that Rachel would move into the apartment in Ross' building. I did see a lot of teasing in this episode and this is to keep us on our toes for the next three weeks while there are reruns (kind of like a season finale if you will). The second half of the season should prove to be worth the wait and it is leading to something BIG!!

No, it isn't just you. I thought that this episode was pretty boring. It really wasn't very funny. Courteney Cox Arquette was underused, as was Lisa Kudrow. Surprisingly, Matt LeBlanc was hardly in the episode at all. Underused is an understatement. I thought it was disappointing. Not because I wanted to see J&R get together, but because the quality wasn't there. Also I am worried that 'Mental Geller' is returning. The influence of Mona seemed to have calmed Ross down. If she leaves soon (which looks likely) there is every chance Ross will get worse. I hope not.

I actually found it really entertaining. Ross was good, fumbling his way through the "moving forward" with mona..........I thought the scene with Joey was touching. From where i stand, i also think it was totally believeable.

SPOILER SPACE, just in case * * * * * * * * * * * * * I also liked the whole Evander Holyfield storyline. I'm wondering if Rachel will continue to be randy for weeks to come, or if this was just a rogue flush of hormones for the sake of a few laughs.

I was really anticipating what would occur between her and Joey, but as can be expected nothing....except speculation for the season's remainder. I imagine more hints will be dropped, but I'm still not expecting much.
