My apologies, first of all, to anyone offended by the following bad language, but it is in context and I don't believe in censorship.

Just to remind you of the scene:

Thank you for that Ian, I have wonderd what "fanapoli", that I have thought he said, cause I�m from sweden and the translation text read: fanapoli. And I am sure that vaffanapoli is a bad language word. Maybe it don�t mean "fuck you", but it is probebly something else, maybe a nicer word. Or it maybe mean "fuck you" but they say ffanapoli and don�t say the firs two letters "va".

We have to let some italian guys or girls help us.

Va fa'nculo - "go fuck [yourself]", is more or less it, I think. "Go to hell" is how my dad translated it for me last time I asked, but with a wink. ;)

"Va fa Napoli" IS definitely what Joey says, though, and we've more or less come to the conclusion that it's a Joeyism, along with "that's how tailors measure pants" and "supposably". Certainly none of his family would have pointed out to him that he was wrong. Besides, I doubt the network would actually let him say "go fuck yourself" in ANY language, especially given the number of Italian-Americans*...

*not as bad as Irish-Americans, of which there are *significantly* more than there are Irish-Irish, but still a high number. :) Someone once told me that if you add up all the people claiming to be Irish-Americans, African-Americans and Italian-Americans it's actually a higher number than the number of Americans, (and that's without counting all the Scandinavian-A, Native-A, Hispanic-A etc...) <g>

My grandma is a full blooded Italian both her parents came over from Italy. Her mother hardly knew any English and her father learned some from work. But unfortunitly due to All Timers (Sp?) she has forgotten the language completly, or says that she has. Otherwise I would ask.

THe funny thing is Jac, that there are so many Irish and Italian Amerians right? but when they first came over they were rediculed, and paid less money. Both were paid lower then the "blacks" if you look at really old adds looking for workers. I'm mostly Italian and Irish myself. With lots of other things thrown in (French-canadian, german, english, missing one, I'll have to look at my heritage paper)

I'm a little confused Jac, what do they mean by Americans? The pilgrams? All Americans came from somewhere else except for the Native Americans. Do you mean out of the total population of Americans? I wouldn't be surprised myself if this is so.. Especially here in the North East.

BTW I got 2 of my own posts today! It's been months since I recieved one.

I had the worst luck with getting RAM since I need SIMM not DIMM. :(( SO no RAM yet and the SIMM is twice as expensive as the DIMM :(( I just ran into a lot of bad luck..argh

Can you email me with more info Tennant? I am also wondering why my computer doesnt have DIMM slots, It's only 2 years old and a Pentium II. in the handbook it says that it has them, but I was thinking that the book was for all the series of the model..

Seems a little expensive... I've seen SIMMs for about 50p/mb, as cheap as DIMM.. and don't buy it from a big retailer as you'll be paying VAT on top of that.

I buy nearly all of my equipment from local computer shows, it's always much cheaper.. what area do you live in, and I'll email you details of local shows I can find out for you..

DIMMs are usually �32 for 64mb these days, SIMMs are roughly the same, a little bit more expensive. They're slower and crapper unfortunately..

I would love for this to be true. But I wasn't "misinformbed" because I wasn't informed at all! I opened up my computer myself, its a compaq persario. There are NO Dimm slots, I looked EVERYWHERE, there are ONLY SIMM slots.

Isn't that the point? They can't have Joey saying "go fuck yourself" in Italian so he says "go to Naples" which still sounds like swearing to all the Anglophones - but with the same beginning any Italian-Americans will recognise it as a substitute for the lurid phrase.

I don't think "Vafanapoli" is supposed to be interpreted as "Vafanculo", but actually as "Go to Naples", and I'd say Joey's family is from South Italy. Because it's a stereotype of Italy that the southern Italians hate the northern, and vice versa. That way, Naples being in the north of Italy, Joey's family would consider "Vafanapoli" to be an insult. I may be way off here, but my dad speaks Italian, so I can ask him later.
