Teleplay, Story and written by

Why does it sometimes say Teleplay by and story by in one episode and Written by instead in some other episodes? What is Teleplay? Is story by the same as Written by?

Written by means that the story and script of the episode was written by the person/people credited with it.

Teleplay by means that the script was written by the person/people credited with it based on a story by somebody else.

Story by is the credit for the person/people who wrote the story but for whatever reason did not go on to develop a script from it.

It all seems pretty pointless when the writers come together and rewrite the scripts anyway but that's showbiz for you.
