'Friends' cast getting offer Saturday
After NBC set a deadline of noon (ET) on Sunday for deciding the fate of "Friends" next season, Warner Bros. brass were set to present representatives for the six cast members the studio's last, best offer on Saturday morning and give them 24 hours to respond. The actors are said to be asking for a little over $1 million per episode for a two-season, 48-episode deal. The studio, sources said, is offering in the ballpark of $800,000 per episode and a larger share of the show's syndication profits. Sources said veteran manager Sandy Wernick of Brillstein-Grey was helping coordinate the negotiations between the studio and the stars' individual reps. The loss of "Friends" would be a major blow to NBC's primetime fortunes next season, yet the decision by NBC brass to publicly state a deadline underscores the frustration privately being voiced by network brass that the negotiations could drag on until just hours before the network presents its fall schedule to advertisers Monday in New York.
Looks like it's *not* a done deal yet, folks. E-online jumped the gun.
Call me a pessimist, but I think this may be the end. (For the record, if the cast rejects this offer, I say to hell with them...even as much as I love the show.)
